Zesty’s are quite long TT so a large maybe good for you, XL maybe a bit gate like. how do they compare to your current bike.

mmmBop is a really fun ride, and can be built up quite light, I think mine is around 26lb,nicest hardtail I’ve had feels good straight away, not ridden a 456 so can’t comment.

v10 Thanks for the feedback, I hope Brant can give us more detail, I also want a medium Yellow, :D
I would like to try a few races, as a complete newbie, and it looks like it will be a good forgiving and confidence building ride, :-)

2.4 only just fitted in the rear of my old Nomad, 2.25 is a big step down in size to the 2.4.

Will the quality be good ? BB and head tube faced and brake mounts faced, good welds etc….I really would like one, but I’m a bit nervous of spending alot of money if its not going to be good quality,
I’ve recently bought an mmmBop and its a great ride but the BB and head tube where very poorly finished so had them faced, not a problem on a £150 frame ….I really hope its up there with the quality.

I run 2.25 Advantage folding and 2.25 Crossmark folding on the flow rims been ok for 18 months.

Thanks guys , glad its not just me, yes my Hope Hub also fits and works no problem, If I remember correctly when I’ve used Shimano brakes on my Hope hubs I had to use a shim to space the disc off to allow the caliper to sit correctly, so the hope hubs must have a slightly different offset, maybe to allow for the floating disc.

Kenda Small block 8’s are pretty good

RS Revelation Dual Air with the spacer to reduce travel work really nicely 20mm Maxle lite stiffens them up nicely.

I’m 15 stone and my RP23 shock just does not perform, so I swopped it out for a Vanilla R Push’d for trail riding awesome, also balances out the bigger fork by keeping the rear up in the travel, where the RP23 drops through its travel.
ZTR Flows are a good compromise between weight and strength, 729’s are seriously heavy rims,
I would go 10 speed slx with the double and bash up front, has steel pedal inserts and is built a bit stronger than the triple, and a short cage rear mech.
I have the maxle back end which is super stiff, which my 08 Heckler wasn’t.
and the best mod is a dropper seat post.
And as said get an XT cassette as the SLX still eats the Alloy Pro II free hub, mine did.

My ProII rears if the free hub goes stiff it has been caused by the hub bearing behind free hub seized.

I went with these guys , great chalet, good guide, fantastic, a huge variety of trails, some serious DH trails, so pick them before you ride.

My remote lever/cable sometimes freezes and the post just goes down, I pull the small lever on top of the post it then locks ok, I find were the cable connects I have to keep this area clean and lubed and I have taken to putting a large blob of copper grease over the lever and connection, this helps to keep the dirt out and the water, the cables is like your gears, I strip and lube it once a month, but if I leave it a couple of months thats when things start to go wonky, but the cold has a big effect on my post, I’m guessing the oil etc goes sluggish through any valves/pistons etc. I rode in -13 a couple of weeks ago and it was playing up, not returning until I pulled it up.

My KS I900 has problems when the temp gets really below zero, very slow to come back up and does not always stay up, but its usually -5degs and below. +5degs and above its been perfect.

I have a five with Floats 36’s I just put a spacer in and reduced them to 140mm, so you get the extra stiffness and not to slack for trail riding, and if you go to the Alps just pop the spacer out only takes half an hour, Maxle back end is super stiff , with 36’s and maxle back end the 5 is like a mini DH bike that can still climb..I’m also running a Push’d Vannila R with Ti spring which really makes the bike more balanced with the 36’s up front.and the dropper post is a must the extra weight is well worth it, the cable guides are there ready to use.AM 5

2.5 Nevs are quite a big tyre, 2.35 is the size I have mainly used good allround tyre, a stickE compund on the front and a DTC on the back, roll abit slow, I find the Maxxis Advantage to be faster rolling and a bit better in the mud. I had some 2.5 Nevs on my old Nomad they were very grippy but a bit of a slog on the hills.

Bigger disks for the Alps would help, some of the trails were hard to stay off the brakes , super steep and if you let off you went too fast for the trail, I had a guide and he said don’t drag the brakes, just nail them when you need them, was very scary but fun, it was pucker / grin pucker /grin… :D I used Code 5’s and they were good, but I went through 3 sets of pads over the holiday, so take a spare sets with you.

I had a 2010 frame never had to bodge the brake, the adapter just bolted on, needed slightly longer bolts than normal.

My revs where always better after I let all the air out of the + and –
and set them up again with the correct pressures, making sure I had the pressures matched.
Over time the travel on mine reduced as the pressure was lost slightly and they did become harsh, letting the air out and starting again worked for me, great forks.

I have the Ardent and Crossmark , cross mark not too good in the mud, Ardent I’ve ridden some lighter mud and was ok but Advantage has always been Ok for me, open tread sheds the mud and still rolls fast

Two weeks in Morzine, Blew my Forks, some thing inside TFT fixed, swing arm bearings, BB bearings, Front & rear wheel bearings, 3 sets of pads and a bent handle bar from one off, lost loads of paint from my frame from the uplifts,Rear brake caliper was never the same again had to replace it. best two weeks riding I’ve ever had :D

I have 2.25 Advantage on my hardtail really great trail tyre, quite quick rolling and predictable grip, and on my Suspension bike I have Minion 2.35 super tacky upfront with a 2.25 Ardent rear the Ardent is as big as the Minion and has great grip and gives a nice steady breakaway on the rear, a good combo, not tried it in any mud yet.

5ft 9″ had a Large Heckler always felt to tall, changed to a medium Nomad perfect good in every way, made a big difference to my riding,
Riding an 18″ Orange 5 feels to long so will have to down size soon.
16″ mmmBop is perfect I think 22.5″ TT suits me also. :D

Ive been using my remote I900 dropper post for 14 months fantastic no wobble,no problems, feels strange on my other bike not to have one and you notice how much the saddle hits your arse.
Only slight problem at -13degs it was slow to come back up :D but I think the remote cable was icing up.

My SLX cassette, dug its way into the Hope Alloy Freehub, was quite a struggle to get it off, and I had plenty of copper grease on.
Never have this problem with XT,

[The Mega is a 66deg head angle, so depending on how you set the rear up, is similar/slacker than the Ragley. But it is designed for going quite a lot faster ] Thanks Brant, I like the feel/size etc of my mmmBop and to have a full sus similar would be great.
I’ve had a few hardtail with long travel SC Chameleon 140mm Pike, Orange P7 140mm Revelation and now the mmmBop 150mm Fox, all have been fun the Orange was really good and the Ragley is proving to be another good un.Just need to save up for a dropper seat post.

    I love my mmmBop’s slack feel I’m running a FOX Talas 32 150mm, 15mm axle,taper steerer , just feels good.

Brant a quick question is the Nuke Proof Mega similar angles to the mmmBop?? I am thinking of buying one when they come out :D
