There are two plasticky things one adjusts the end float of the cranks against the BB, the other is as said to keep the threads clean, this can be screwed in by hand, and very gently tap’d tight does not need any force.

It’s caused by bad braking and useless riders, I’m so good it never happens to me.. 8O

I’ve read all your feed back and it sounds a great bike but after sleeping on it, I’ve bought a Remedy 9 instead , I think I will get more use out of it in the long run, and should be tough enough to have a play on the jumps and freeride areas. I would not be able to push a Bottle Rocket like you guys , I know my limits Thanks. :-)

I’m thinking of the Yeti ASR-5 carbon to replace mine, at the end of the year. Some 140mm Revs set to 130mm , 142x12mm maxle, option my New Flows with EVO hubs and a smattering of SHimano XT :D

Jedi, a quick question is the seat post 30mm ? and do you know of any dropper posts that will fit, most seem to be 30.9 or 31.6 or 27.2, I suppose a 27.2 with a shim !! Thanks

Jedi, 2.7 DH tyres would be painful on a 20lb XC bike :D

I think my build would be around 35-37lb ,

So it sounds like it will be a fun bike, that can be ridden if need be on longer rides, 8)

I have an Orange 5 as my main/only bike at the moment and I ride mainly trail centers and my local natural trails but I do like to have a play on the pump tracks and small jumps, and maybe work my way up to some DH tracks local to me,and there is a freeride area at Llandegla that I’d like to have a go on,I will keep my 5 for long rides, but fancy something that will take a bit of abuse from learning these skills, I don’t want a full DH rig , I built one a couple of years ago and only used it a couple of times, I was not skilled enough to do full on DH. I was looking at the NP Mega but noticed the Transition Bottle Rocket. So I suppose it will be a bike more for messing about on with a bit of compensation built in for me pushing my skills. :D

Hello Jedi, 35lb doesn’t sound too heavy my 5 is about 31.5lb and is fairly lightly built, I would have Float 36’s ZTR Flows on Hope Hubs, XT cranks and saint mech and shifter , tyres 2.35 Minions, brakes Juicy 5’s ,Sunline V1 bar and stem on the Transition,

    Seems like they are making a 34mm 29er fork, now a 150mm 34m 20mm axle 26″ would be a nice fork.

I’m thinking of selling mine at the end of the year and buying a Yeti ASR

5 Carbon and for RagTi I may just get a black one :D it may have white

wheels though :D must try harder to have colour sense. :P

I feel the need for less weight and travel.

I had Pro II and XM719 for two years excellent wheels, even had a trip to the Alps stayed perfectly true, even after some hairy bad choices of lines in Morzine.

I bought my Revs new set the pressures and never touched them again for 9 months, never missed a beat, they are now on my wifes Heckler still plodding on 18 months later , I checked air pressures two weeks back and they where still spot on.

RagTi, my wife rolls her eyes every time I build a new bike :D

It all started with a Vista Orange Mk2 Escort Sport with RS Alloys in 1981,

never had any colour sense since… :D

1st mountain bike Kona Hoss Beer brown :?
    Scott G zero grey :?
    SC Chameleon Bright Orange :D
    SC Heckler Bright Orange, :D
two years later repainted Bright Yellow, :D
    SC Superlight Bright Orange :D
    SC Nomad Grey :?
Yeti Arc Bright Yello and Black :D
    Orange P7 completely White :D
    Giant Reign Grey :?
    Orange 5 Neon Green :D

I think my final colour has gone off the scale of bad taste but I like it :D :D

Revs as said 20mm maxle , I had some on my P7 they suited perfectly, some 140mm dual air did the job.

[Jeffus / Flow……its still 2 for one with free prescription sunglasses ]

Ragti you made me laugh, I’m crazy about really bright colours always have been, Neon Green is awsome, even glows in the dark, although my last bike was an anodised grey Nomad, very dull but rides superb.
My reason for the Neon Green was so my mates can easily find me in the gorse on night rides :D :D

Flow and Mountainman123 stop fighting its making me sad, come on we all love bikes , there only as good as the rider, I use mine to compensate for my hopeless skills. :D

They do ride much better with a coil shock, RP23 BV for me blows its mid-travel.

Funny old debate going on, its a good bike at most things, and it forgives my awful skills :D

with my 36’s on it does feel like a mini DH bike, and can go much faster than I can think downhill.

I have 2010 Fox 32 Talas Fit 150, seem ok to me mine are the RL lock out works a treat, on really steep stuff I just drop the travel to 130mm , never used the 110mm travel, but the fork seems super plush in the two settings I use, a bit of stiction going on on small bump stuff but I guess the new Kashima coatings will improve all that on the 2011-2012 stuff.
They seem fairly stiff, mine are the taper steerer and 15mm axle, my bike is a Orange 5.

18 months mine lasted bike is ridden 3-4 times a week, 15 stone in my gear.
I think it was the cap coming loose on mine on the drive side let the water and dirt in , other side was rusty, drive side had collapsed.
New ones from my LBS where £7 for a pair.

I quite like the Ardent out back and Minion up front I had the super tacky up front gives excellent grip , changed the Minion to an Advantage to see how it performs seems OK so Far, I was recommended a Minion super tacky up front and a front 60a in the rear by a guy from Orange on one of their demo days.

Sorry guys but my 2007 Heckler was a Flexi old thing I changed to a Hope Bolt in hub and that helped, I’ve a maxle back end on my 5 and that is super stiff, but I am fat :D Nomad back end was also solid, I’m a real Santa Cruz fan and went the 5 route to see what all the fuss was about.
I did like my Heckler it was a very good bike at giving confidence just like a 5, she was very pretty.

Blower I changed my Heckler for a Nomad , Nomads rock awesome bikes quickest bike I’ve ridden, but over the top for most trails and my ability,
Orange 5 is how the Heckler should have evolved into, :D

I have a set of 36 Floats and a 150 Talas 32 15mm QR for my Orange 5, to me they are very different, the 36’s as expected track through almost any obstacles, 32’s you can feel a slight twangy ness but you just get used to it and it soon goes away, in your mnd, the bike feels nippier with the 32’s there’s about a 1lb difference in weight, I run a Vanilla coil with the 36’s much better match. The Float Shock doesn’t seem to perform well with the 36 but does with the 32’s I don’t know why, I wanted one bike to do all so I have the two forks and two shocks and two sets of wheels, its fun to swop between the setups.

I’ve had one for 18 months , never noticed brake jack, didn’t on my Heckler, its a good bike that does most things well, taper head tube and maxle back end make for a really stiff frame, that tracks well, Heckler was very Flexi in comparison, mine is around 31-32lb a bit on the heavy side should be 28lb if you believe all the weight claims , all my bikes have been around 32lb Heckler , Nomad and now the Orange 5.
It really shines on the down hill slacker and lower works well, but this shows on the climbs , its a steady plod gets there in the end, although it does do the odd unexpected , 4 of my mates hit a technical climb/ obstacle and all failed and they are awesome riders compared to me and I had a go and the old 5 made it clean, I nearly fell off with shock :D , A Heckler with taper head tube , 67 deg head angle and maxle rear would look prettier ,
The fuglyness of the 5 grows on you and doesn’t matter really, its better looking than me 8O
I’m one of the people who needs a 17″ 5 with a 23″ TT damn funny shaped body. :D

Adjustable posts are awesome, once you have one its quite a revelation when you ride without one, just how much you put up with the saddle being in the way.

Mine weighs 31.6lb Float 36’s 1×10 , I900 seatpost, ZTR Flows, XTR Cranks XT drive train, V1 745 bars and 50mm V1 Stem 2.25 Maxxis Advantage, Ardent tyres, V12 pedals , SDG saddle, CK taper headset, maxle back end, Hope Tech 4’s 203,183 floating rotors, running it with a Talas 32 150 Fit at the moment so not sure what it weighs now, probably 30.5lb ish. :D

Delamere will be the easier of the two, Green Route at Llandegla is a nice ride around the lake, just a harder climb out but if you park in the top car park it will be slightly easier with the trailer.
