I was passed by a very quick fully rigid bike, and I was rattling down on my Nomad, spoke to him at the bottom, and he couldn’t feel his arms anymore but still was way faster than me , and he was alive

Thanks for he info, I’ve had a Heckler very nice, followed by a Nomad then an Orange 5, looking to change the 5 for a shorter travel and lighter bike, and keep the remedy for the times I need more bike. Hardtails I’ve tried many and they all hurt my back, had an injury many years ago, hardly shows it self with a suspension bike, and I have to ride a short TT or my back is a problem, Bosh I have a 5 now and I’m looking to change it, they do ride wonderful, but the sizing is wrong for me. Down hill on my 5 is far more stable that the Heckler, much slacker and lower BB :D

Bike rack in the garage with loads of locks and chains, takes ages to undo my bike :D

They are prototype printers, not really suitable for producing actual products, they are for engineers / designers to see what their product will look like, touchy feely stuff

I didn’t have to remove my cranks, but I’m running a 1 x 10 so had clearance to get in at the bolts etc, I also put a dab of loctite on the heads of the bolts, and greased the threads before putting them back in, and don’t over tighten them all, I imagine it would be easy to snap one if your not used to this kind of job

I removed my shock and placed a cloth between swing arm and frame to stop it marking when I gave it a whack

Lizard skin do one, I bought one from my LBS, shaped for the swing arm.

I have ardent on the rear of both my bike, and Minion on one fron advantage on the other , Minion Super Tacky works well with the Ardent rear.

Thanks guys, CaneCreek does make one now for taper steerer, I need a head set as the one that came with the frame is knackered, so need to spend in that area, £180+ off CRC for angleset, maybe a combo of both offset bushes and headset ,,,

Thats good scruff, substitute digger for shovel then :D I rode Cannock 3 weeks back thought it was great, new bits were awesome, braking bumps can’t say they ruined my day, have you been to Drum Lanagyn in Scotland, the roots are like braking bumps all the way round, again another great trail, certainly get used to roots there :D

Orange P7 rides great but the new version is quite a heavy frame.

I think the 12mm x142mm maxle option sounds a good one, I like the maxle on my 5 nice and easy to use, stiffens the rear up.

I’m saving for one right now, April 2012 I will have enough, then I can have the Kashima coated shock and forks sweet… :D

cruzheckler get a Lyric coiul up front and a DHX coil rear smooths the trails

single crack is your jockey wheel aligned correctly with the smallest cog look from the rear and adjust screw to align, if its a bit off you can get the chain climbing.

Is your Chain length Ok adjusted to 1 x 9 from your previous set up?

I’ve been running 1 x 9 with an E-13 SRS NO PROBLEMS FOR 18 MONTHS JUST CHANGED TO 1 X 10 STILL GOOD, SORRY STARTED SHOUTING MUST OF HIT THE CAPS LOCK

Sorry DruidH, big lock every time for me, way to many bikes getting stolen, mine walked 50 feet to the edge of the car park, obviously waiting to be picked up as they drive past, luckily came out of the Cafe and after 20 seconds of panic spotted it leaning against the wall by the edge of the car park. Ass holes , I’ve been followed a couple of times also.

I had a guide when I went took us on 6-10 hour rides all over the mountains, he was awesome Jo was his name :-) took us on some off the beaten track trails he called it Xc but it was pretty gnarly DH all over great fun, he would stop on the trail and there would be a couple of rocks by the tree line we would then cut through the trees and end up on some very nice single track, his secret trails he would joke.
I would say take spare pads I went through 3 sets in two weeks,
203mm disc front and back, 2ply tyres , and the usual spares tubes etc.
When I came home my bike had taken quite a battering,
Forks had blow something inside RS Lyric Coils
Wheel bearings went on the rear hub,
Pivot bearings had fallen to bits
    BB had gone
and my rear caliper was never the same again.
All the parts where only 3 months old when I went :D
Santa Cruz Heckler was my bike never smiled so much when riding :D

Started my build frame looks good , head set is rough but will do til I find another,
Float 36 RC2’s and ZTR Flows on Hope ProII’s, V1 bar and stem so far,
Forgotten how exciting it is when you start a new build, parts bin is being raided :D

Argos did a stunning job on my Heckler

    Jeffus

I’ve owned both , and they are both excellent at giving you confidence and both ride great, the slacker geometry of the 5 is great down hill, and inspires good times, BB is lower on the 5 so it feels very stable, if the Heckler was 67 deg head angle with a taper head set it would be more of what I would like :D … Butcher seems to be the latest 150mm bike to replace Hecklers top dog position, loved my Heckler great fun,had Lyric coils and coil shock made it capable of hitting almost any thing.

Thanks DeeW , I’ll put some sort of protection on the down tube, its a 2nd hand frame, but advert said no dents or cracks , so if I cover it now should last me a while hopefully :D getting excited now, new project build

I think Hope Hub is lighter with 20mm adapters , combined with large poo should be much lighter.

Thanks TractorFrog, sounds great, I’m 15st+ in my gear :D

I have a 5 at the moment and thought the Remedy would be a good ride to have in a slightly burlier build , pretty much as you have with the Alpine
similar travel, but different build makes a difference in my mind.

How does your Alpine feel in comparison to the Remedy ?

My Nomad the bike I had before my 5, and my 5 which i rode today,

Both make me smile, which is the fastest on the trail,

TractorFrog, I always seem to have trouble with blowing through travel with RP23, running a Van R at the moment on my 5, Frame arrives tomorrow so hopefully have it built for Saturday, it is coming with an RP23, maybe a tune by TFT will help. I will have a Float 36 upfront what are you running?

Thanks dobiejessmo for the feedback, sounds like a fun bike,

I’m going 1 x 9, hoping a chain device e-13 srs will go on ok with an

adapter, not keen on the adapters , chain line always seems slightly off,

I’ve just been out riding my 5 it was a very nice ride, didn’t think about the bike very much, we went up and down and I was happy today.

I’ve done just that on my Orange 5 same problem blows the mid travel , no problems with the Van R, I’ve a PUSH’d one from TFT set for trail riding with a Ti spring, more grip and climbs better.

I drove two years ago, its two days each way really, unless you can rotate drivers, then it would be OK plenty of stops to fuel up on coffee :D
plenty of CD’s and an MP3 player also helps, satnav took me all the way to morzine. I stayed with these guys http://www.morzine-mtb.com/ fantastic digs and they organised guides etc which helps find all the extra trails and the loop around Port de sole

Oh yes I forgot he has a stealth Remedy ,

You know me so well, I’m going to strip my 36’s and take out the spacer bring the travel back up to 160mm, hope I don’t nip the O – Ring again :D
