:D it would be like a chopper at full extension :D I’d like to eventually sort out a 100mm fork, but if I can run a taper fork , gives me more options. Wish I had a lathe 8O

So if I get a NP head set I will have to have the bottom cup turned down to 8.5mm , which will give me an external cup to take the 1.5″ section on the steerer tube, I have a Taper fox fork or a set of Pikes just trying to get an idea which will be best , frame is usually 100mm travel so the extra 10mm or so will slacken the head angle, I can wind the Pikes down to 110mm, and the Fox will goto 110mm its a Talas 150,
the bike is a winter project, frame also has a post mount rear brake fitting 8O

Just a quick measuremnt with a ruler the top and bottom openings are approx 44mm, I don’t have a vernier to measure accurately but on first glance of the ruler they look like 44mm not sure how deep they go, Thanks for your help :-)

I have a mini LED light that wraps around the base of the reverb by the clamp and then larger lights hanging off my back pack, mine has been fine in the mud so far but not ridden a winter yet, my KS900i lasted 2 winters fine, only effect was the cold which made it slow to return.

I think my 5 build probably feels as close as I can get to a Patriot, as I thought it was tougher on the climbs but going down for an already very stable and quick bike it felt bomb proof and I had to back off because of me and not the bike, makes me think I need a loto win :D
Joe Barnes is awesome rider he makes the Patriot look like a flying machine 8O

Thanks phil5 feedback sounds good, I have a demo booked , earliest I can get mid November, 8O

I’ve been going through my bits and today I put my 36’s set to 160mm, I bought some off set bushes for my Van R shock and I’ve fitted some good DH tyres to my Flows ,I’m going to fit these to my 5 and see how it rides, should be 66deg head angle and BB lowered about 10mm ish, if it rides well at least I can swop and change for some DH days, I’m certainly not going to reach the limits with my skill level,

so I will have one bike with two modes , trailbike and DH orientated .

Just wish I could afford two bikes :D

can’t wait to try the new build, I’ sure the uphills will be a challenge.

[top cap, spacer, stem, spacer, means the stem is clamping onto a good section of the steerer tube and not the top edge.

But see above; with an aluminium insert in the stem which supports it from the inside, there is no need to worry about clamping the top edge. ]

Yes I fully understand what you mean but I would still run it with a spacer below the top cap, usually a 5mm – 10mm one.

If I do get one it will be 180mm Float RC2 fork, and Float RP23 , Flows, and XT 1 x 10, and a sram dropper post, I guess around 32lb-34lb , I never seem to ge down low on weights compared to most people

Thanks for the info , seems to be a big country only bike, I’ll see if I can try one and see where it goes, :-)

So far it seems I should keep the 5 , I’ll see if I can get a test ride on one.

07 Patriot was very good , can’t remember it being a poor climber, most hills around me are slow and steep , and the Patriot just trundled up fine, as does my 5, I think the rider makes a bigger difference on climbing ability and I’m just slow and steady :D I’m sure if I was on an XC whippet bike and Rorschach was on a 224 I know who would get to the masts first, not me. :D

philfive feedback would be great, can’t find much about how it rides, its a lot of bike, I should ask my LBS to see if they can get one in for me to try.

I slap extra grease around from new or from replacing bearings and so far the only bearing that goes is the one in the hub behind the free hub, all the other bearings have not failed, ridden all year round, front hubs seem more prone to failing when used in 20mm , 15mm and qr seem better sealed, change my front bearings every year when in 20mm.

usually missing free hub washer they jump off and hide when you lease expect it, I think its a different axle if you want to use a 10mm skewer.

:D I ride mtb and horse , my horse is called Max a big ginger one and he poo’s in huge amounts, never been a problem for me :-) and when they pee its gallons 8O it is nothing like dog/human poo quite nice on your roses,
and no its not practical to stop and pick it up ,horses have a very tiny tiny brain and they mainly eat and poo in a never ending conveyor until they pop their clogs.

perthmtb I’m 5′ 9″ and 88Kg so your doing fine :D I used to do judo and trained virtually every day for 20 years my weight stayed at 79Kg , I ate approx 4000 cals a day , then when I stopped training I went up to 102Kg , then i started riding and I’m at 88-87 Kg but still fat round my middle.
Six pack will come just eat sensible and ride , I’m 50 years young so that’s my excuse for no more 6 pack more a keg :D but I’m aiming for 80Kg by next summer, changing my job and more free time will come.
Cross training is the key, weights , circuits , swimming and biking and don’t forget the rest days to repair yourself, and light days to keep your mind happy. Food is a good point get your self to a gym and they should be able to give you a plan to follow based on your goals and changing levels of fitness, I’m no expert so would not begin to tell you about nutrition , cheers main thing enjoy your life :D

I have a 2008 medium frame for sale , bought it new for my daughter to go to France she fell of and won’t get back on , sat in the work shop for 3 years, I’ve ridden it a hand full of times really nice bike, original forks were terrible bombers , changed them for a Pike 454 and replaced the wheels to run 20mm up front and the rear is converted to 12mm axle, so it handles like a dream in its current build.
