I find with mine you have to keep the area around the small lever under the saddle quite clean, some times mud/grit can limit the movement stopping it from fully working, I usually blast it out with GT85 then apply some water proof grease around it to keep the muck out , this works for a few weeks depends on how muddy it is and if you blast away the grease by mistake. Oh and it sticks down when left but pops up fine after I’ve given it a tug, then works fine out on the trail, only trouble I’ve had is in severe cold it becomes very slow to return usually -5 to -15 degs 😯 😀

I’m looking at the Spearfish you can get adapters that press into the BB30 and allow you to use standard cranks and BB, I think this is what you need.

Build will be Float 36 Fit RC2 Taper, Flows Hope Hoops, Tech 4 Brakes, XT set up 1×10 with an E-13 SRS, V1 bar and stem and Reverb post , should be around 32-33lb I’m guessing just waiting for delivery now 😀
Its going to look like a zebra, white forks ,white wheels, white bash guard, black frame 🙂

mmm Stem I have a 50mm V1 and 70mm Thomson so hopefully will be ok with one or the other, I’ve no money left now for this build 😯

I’m building a xc 29er in a few months so they should go well together being at extremes to each other 150mm and 80mm

Thanks for the tip on the sag, settings

Then I’d like to take a trundle round Penmachno, and maybe the Marin, I usually go upto Scotland for a long weekend in a month or so weather permitting, it would be quite at home up there, 😆

SBrock sold my Nomad a couple of years ago when I was made redundant,
pay the bills, bought an Orange 5 , which I’ve just sold , I’m getting a Xc 29er but not til April and thought I still need a 26″ bike to thrash around on Heckler would be good but I have a set of 36’s with a taper steerer so then thought of the Butcher which seems to be an updated Heckler in many ways slacker , taper head tube , just don’t see many around, so I’m looking for a good 2nd hand one can’t afford new,I’ve not looked on MTBR for ages will take a look.
Your bike looks awesome, never used PPedal on any of my SantaCruz bikes.

I had my Heckler 2 1/2 years 2 years with Lyric and DHX-5 coil out back felt great you can wind it down to 140-150 for general use, but I mainly left mine at 160, where great in the Alps super stiff compared to Pikes , Revs.

+1 Left hand side, upside down. I have no shifter on that side

Put a coil shock on my Nomad climbed fine with one I had a PUSH’d DHX-5,
no real pedal bob ,pro pedal on one click, much better than the meta 5 which as it happens my daughter had and I borrowed from time to time.
RP23 can drop through its travel quite easily even when sag is set.
I am around 90Kg+ kitted out, I think if you are over 11-12 stone standard RP23 tune does not work well.

I run mine with 36’s set to 140 was fine 160 great down hill a bit leary the rest of the time, coil shock is lovely and plush

I asked Orange a few weeks back they said 34-32 is about the max you can run on a double as the chain may foul the swing arm, 36 was almost impossible with a normal 50mm chain line, apparently depends on the tolerance of the frame.

Passportes du Soleil awesome ride, I went with a guide there are XC routes and more gnar trails we kept meeting up with a group of XC riders all on hardtails or short travel sus, I was riding a heckler with 160 Lyric up front , don’t think I would of liked it on a hardtail , times when I wanted more travel, some steep rocky tracks, couldn’t tell you how to find the trails the guide was very good and took us down some fantastic routes wish I could go again. One of the days we ended up having lunch oppsite a glasier over the Swiss border , happy days.

Yes great upgrade makes them more controlled when going quick, seem to absorb the continuos rough stuff with out getting all bogged down, I had them on my Heckler with a PUSH’d DHX-5 springs both ends great feel.

The race I did last year passed most of the field on the bike on the big down hill 32lb Orange 5 then they all passed me on the big climb on their 19lb carbon what nots, was quite funny, watching lots of jiggling and wobbling hardtails ,DH was pretty much a ploughed field, then the roar of them all catching and passing me on a big climb 😀 I was super slow on the runs but had a great time 😀

I did my first one last year first run is fine then you get on your bike, legs feel weird to begin with then sort themselves out, second run my legs where screaming at me and the last km I had to run walk , but I am a fat old guy and really enjoyed myself, you just race yourself, the top guys who win are amazing so I’m happy to just do a good time for me.

I’m doing it and its quite hilly and the ground will be rough, trails for the biking are usually a mix of the normal trails and some off piste bits, I’m still trying to get running but can’t motivate myself in this weather 😀 biking bit should be fine 😯

IPA should bring it off, or disc brake cleaner from halfords or the like, something that won’t leave an residue behind.

I found on mine that it performed better with a softer spring than what was recommended for your weight, on my Heckler for my weight supposed to have been a 450lb but as you say it never used full travel so I went to a 400lb and a Push Tune at TFT made a big difference for me, only ever used one click of pro pedal, best shock for the heckler, 🙂

I ride all year round so mud is my friend in the winter 😀 I’ll take a closer look at the clearance, I imagine the 29er wheels flex more 😀
