Its going to be a 100Km a day roughly which is the most I do in a week in the summer on my mountain bike , road should be easier-ish but it is still quite a daunting task for me.
I was looking to save on fuel and grap some extra rides, it will take about 20 weeks to save £400 in fuel riding 2 times a week, and a bike will be around £500-£1000 to be quick and light enough to keep it up,
I’m going to see if they have a cycle to work scheme that would help if they do, but it is already quite a talk that I drive 30 miles each way,
so they may think I am completely of my tree wanting to ride in,

    I am 50 years young also 😀

No showers I asked again today, 8 hours graft standing most of the day lugging and spannering as a maintenance engineer in a factory full of machinery 😯 shifts are 6-2 5 earlies 2-10 5 afternoons 9-6 4 nights,
its sounding very hard to do, and I still have to get a road bike, train is £10 one way which is what I pay in fuel, mmmmmmm 🙁

Here is a view of the journey , not sure how you can work out the climbs but Google Maps says 31.5miles… 😀

No choice there are no jobs in Wrexham so I have to travel,

Thanks everyone for your input and experiences, I’m almost at the point of trying it twice a week in the summer and see how it pans out , I’ll go my LBS see what they recommend bike wise, I believe there is a Giant road bike that is less racer and more leisure shorter TT , I think someone mentioned it earlier on, and as said it will free up more time for the family. 😀

Had a blast on my mountain bike roads and some trails 10.8mph average, 1061 feet of climbing , 10.6miles in an 1hour 4mins 46secs top speed 35.5mph, so my commute will take 3 hours + on my mountain bike 😯
Roadies must be really quick 😀

Doesn’t sound too good an idea, it was mainly too save on fuel and get a few extra miles in, I seem to be spending £10 a day in fuel, it is also the 3rd most dangerous road in the UK, mainly winding A roads with 6 miles of carriage way at the end , it is also the main route for wagons going from Wrexham across to the M6 , over by Crewe.
The more I think about it , it seems a silly idea, I don’t have a road bike to try the route out at the weekend ,which would be a better judge of how I would be fairing on the ride.

I only ride mountain bike at the moment, 40 – 80Km a week fairly fit ish, just not road bike fit most of my rides involve long climbs.

No showers at work 🙁 maybe drive in ride home would be a good call, I work shift also would mean leaving home around 4 am 😯

I have two sets of Hope Hoops with Flows they are great fairly light weight and very strong and they spread smaller tyres so you get a better profile, or you can slap a 2.5 on them.

Butcher is a great Heckler replacement, I found the blur to be a bit noodly and not much better than the Heckler, but for £950 it is a bragain, I have a new Butcher climbs very well and is slack enough to be more stable than the heckler I am running 36’s, I have owned heckler , Nomad etc and the Butcher is a good contender.

I usually apply a few drops of dry chain lube pump the fork usually leaves a ring of oil and dirt wipe it clean, pump again usually no dirt then off I go, done this for about 6 years no problem.

My Mondeo was the ST version plenty of fun and more handling than you think for such a big car, you would be amazed how quick they are.

If they have a groove they can be clamped around the hose after cutting to help put the insert back in the end of the hose.

[When do car wheels or body panels fail? ] when my daughter borrows my car and hits the gate it was only a 15foot gap 😀 knocked it out with a block of wood costs more than the car is worth to fix,She was mortified bless her.

    http://www.trekbikes.com/uk/en/support/warranty

    There is a quote,

For 2010 and older model bicycles, please consult your owner’s manual or contact us or an authorized dealer for the applicable warranty.

Also states repair or replacement of the parts no mention of colours

Tricky one your bike is fixed and rideable , maybe your LBS can help with getting the swingarm painted to match, it would be ideal to have it colour matched but if they don’t have one then its the best compromise and you can still ride and have fun just don’t look in windows on the trail 😀

A good coat of copper grease and then tighten til they are snug then when both are in place I just nip them up not swinging on the shimano tool but a firm pull, as said you will get a feel for it , but always use grease, dry fine threads are not good, I also put a sheet of plastic over the bottom bracket so the tool does not dig into the alloy.

If it trail riding and not a race then no problems with 140-150 , they usuallly build up around 30-32lb depending on your pocket depth, I really enjoyed my Orange 5 for the last 2 years but recently changed to a SC Butcher and was amazed how much better it climbs and the suspension seems to be more refined, weighs 30.5lb with Float 36’s , Reverb , Flows , XT 1×10 and Hope Tech 4’s etc probably with a Float 32 and more bling you could get below 30lb.
[Well, it’s about the quality of the suspension as much as the travel. The overall weight of the bike.]
As Badlywireddog said this makes a difference, not ridden the Cube so would see what Stereo owners say and if possible try and ride one, although I didn’t on my Butcher just went with what I read and what people told me on forums , lots of faith in people. 😀

I have snake skin Nobby Nics and they are still very thin carcass, perhaps Highroller on the rear and a minion on the front, never had trouble climbing with mine in a 60a rear and Supertacky front, but only ridden about 75k in the Alps not a 100k
