I ride my cx bike hard, seems to stand up to a good battering.
It feels a little odd really throwing it around off road with narrow handlebars, also takes a while to get used to not having instant access to the brakes (like on an MTB).

Mud X or storm control in the mud
(BTW I also disagree that mud x isn’t good when its not muddy, I think its good all round, slow rolling obvs).

Nobby nic rear hans dampf front works very well in most conditions, perfect trail centre setup.

Racing ralph good for summer hard pack and again works well in trail centres.

    All run tubeless.

Had lots of positive experience with:
    Hopes on stans
    Dt Swiss hubs and rims
    Easton factory builds.

Decide what type of Wheelset you’re after, xc, am etc….

My newest bike is 650b with a dropper, there are no words.

    Yep, now.
It was been a bit grim of late but that makes me feel more smug about it.
Enjoy the ‘free’ time on your bike, give yourself plenty of time so there’s no need to rush.

I’ve just had a thought, as all teachers are tossers and doing a sh1t job of teaching our kids who Nelson is, maybe we should just sack them all.
Yes it makes perfect sense. There’s 420,000 (or so) of the spongers out there, there average salary is a staggering £37,000.
My simpleton maths (damn education system) gives a saving of £15,540,000,000.
Now we’re all so stupid to understand that big number, maybe Derekfish could help explain it to us?

Anyway I’m distracting myself (maybe I’m the product of my poor education). My thought would be to buy each child a copy of a Uk atlas, a dictionary and print out a copy of the Nelson Wikipedia page.
At least that way they’ll all be qualified for the modern workplace.
Maybe they could start working earlier? Say at 6 or 7 years old?

    Thoughts ?

    Wowsers Derekfish.
I get the trolling, nice one.
Out of curiosity what do you do for a living?

    I just hate teachers

All teachers? No matter how hard working and dedicated they might be?
I think I might also irrationally hate all trolls called Derek.

I bet it was so much better in your day.

Are we all supposed to be impressed with your peacock display of ignorance to what actually goes on in the classroom.
I’d love to watch know it all idiots like you flail your way around an inner city comp.

    Derekfish.

Come and spend a day in my school and she how much of a bad job the teaching establishment does and the impact it has on my inner city non selective school getting 100% A*-C grades.

I’ll await your generic troll response.

The road for me is the most worrying, buy that I mean other road users not the road itself.

I have a 2014 Zesty 527, the only real difference is mine is carbon and the 427 isnt.

    It’s great, really good.
As a comparison with similar types of bike I’ve had in the past an Intense 6.6, Pivot mach 5, Ibis Mojo and in my opinion is better than all of them. A much more capable all rounder.
I dont clip my heels (size 10 feet), or anywhere near to be honest. I’ve been noticably faster on technical trails that I know well.
I’ve been riding my hadtail 29er a lot lately and I was worried that the zesty would take out the fun and feel of riding fast, but I was wrong, it is a complete hoot.

I epected it do descent very well (which it does), but it also goes uphill with surprising ease.

    I’ve changed mine from 2×10 to 1×10.

I thought 456 is quite different in character than a lurcher? Maybe you prefer the more playful feel of a long travel HT.

    I’m covering all bases by having a 26, 27.5 and 29er mtb.

Rode enduro today so pulled out the 27.5 and my bright yellow jacket.
Will do xc tomorrow so Lycra and 29er.

    Wowsers, amazing.
My thought exactly, can you ‘pull up’ if you’re getting to close to the ground?

    Inner is way better IMO.
I agree that spooky wood is a bit of a let down.

I have torchy and it’s good. I use a little bit of duct tape to hold the connecter in place, works fine.

I’m looking over that way (north wales) and there doesn’t look like there’s much snow at all up there.

I’m having the same thought, don’t think I really need a sighting lap to know the course, but I’m tempted to go an ride a bit to get my eye in and get ready for trying to ride fast.

I was tempted with a canyon 650b, outstanding spec for the £, but impatience kicked in due to the long wait for delivery so went to LBS and bought an off the peg bike.
First time I’ve done this for quite some time as I usually build from scratch.

I think you should decide what you want first and see if that exists, if so buy it as a full bike, if not build it yourself.

I’ve just bought a new 27.5 bike for the reasons stated above. Out of choice I would have bought a frame and done a full custom build, but the 27.5 frames just aren’t out there yet in the mainstream.

There’s loads of cheeky singletrack around the area and I’ve never had any complaints from walkers.
I did some pre-ride google earth route planning and took it from there.
This time of the year its generally pretty quiet up there.

Read the post! He said he’d have “preferred a full susser“, he didn’t ask “will I be faster on my carbon HT 29er“.
I’m faster on my HT 29er round Degla but that’s irrelevant to the OP.

Heckler for simplicity and there’s lots around if you’re trying to pick one up 2nd hand.
