you could just stay in a higher gear on the mtb.. you don’t _have_ to use the weakling gears

Flex is possible. Something like the guides in the pic would be good. Where can you get them?

i couldn’t find anywhere.. so ahem

please excuse greenery, also that pedal is another bike

Losing a chain is poor setup, [yeah i agree with this bit]

in my case the chainline was perfect, chain tight, decent ss specific and straight cog/chainring.. i imagine the other guy is the same – what else is there?

i have a trek 69er ss, used to drop the chain at the back quite painfully from (i’m pretty sure now) frame flex – i put a couple big cogs from an old cassette spaced either side of the main one, it’s never come off since. bit of a weird solution but did notice that they originally came with something to keep it on..

i also sometimes have the back end coming off the road when sprinting up hills on a road bike incidentally, just too far over the front – i don’t know if the two are related though!

i thought they were custom/fitted etc, is that not the case?

    weird!

why do you have a layback seatpost?

really dull and really sweaty, i could never do more than about 45 mins before getting totally bored, but if you find yourself feeling fidgety and restless when it’s always dark or snowing, it does the job.. i had to get rid of mine when my downstairs neighbour complained about his light fittings falling out – they are not ideal for a flat.

the more enjoyable alternative is some lights and gloves

I’ve got a photo of the fixie so I may post it in the spotted thread of the edinburgh fixed gear forum.

    advice?

keep pedaling and try not to spew

that’s pretty spinny for 20mph imo, i wouldn’t want to cruise like that for long

personally i’m not planning on crashing, falling or hitting my head, so i have no need for a helmet.

it’s not so bad if it’s the first thing you do, if it’s at the end of a big ride it’s a bit of a stinker. either way you will be cursing the **** as you reach the top.

well having tried a 36er recently, they are not particularly manouverable (even in a carpark..)

isn’t the point just to get over bumpy stuff easier? with speed/weight being secondary considerations..

has the designer ever seen a bike?

    or a human?

they probably feel they want to minimise the risk of your injury in a collision (which is more likely when cycling in a group..) kind of like refusing to drive someone who doesn’t wear a seatbelt – you’re not doing it for the passenger as such, more your piece of mind.

you only need the big ring.

i only indicate if i might get squished, otherwise would rather keep my hands near the brakes/in control of the twitchy road bike..

5 seats, 5 bikes (hell 7 or 8 bikes) easy!

friend has one and it’s ideal, if a bit fuel hungry

i’m fairly shit at riding a bike, so i don’t think my tyre choice makes a lot of difference.. if they’re not prone to going flat, they will do. (2)

well that’s only 55 miles a week.. though off road it’s obviously more time and effort

yeah i heard they don’t like the taste of faeces, so all you have to do is smear the walls of your house in shite. no more spiders!

i smacked my head off low branches 3 times on wednesday. for that reason, i will continue to wear a helmet off road. and possibly look into ducking.

i have no illusions of it stopping my brain mushing under a truck though

yeah it’s the seatpost that gets me! tbh i can’t imagine how that works.. (other than painfully)

I believe there was some licensing issue with beer stops.. i was generously.given.some at the top of the second lap. entirely coincidentaly i came off and cut me arm open shortly after.. as to the cost, anything on that scale costs a shitload and i’d be surprised if they broke even personally.

if they have specially reinforced crotches then yeah i might, all mine go there.

cos i have particularly abrasive genitals.

well given that they are old and a lot of work to get out, and you have to rebuild anyway, i’d just buy a new set for a few quid. if you want to match exactly, cut all but one on each side , move the hub and mash off the nipple when it’s in the clear, then you can take them out and measure them accurately

    jeffcapeshop

cut! what will you do with **** ones anyway?
