it was fine and dry (for the most part) last night, i dunno what you’re all whining about.

rear brake only should be fine, as long as you don’t go down any hills, or need to stop for any reason.

i have what now seem quite underpowered ay-ups from a couple years ago (but they stay on forever) and a £15 cree xml etc torch from ebay which i use as a boost when going down things.
Both on the bars at the moment.

you could download spotify http://www.spotify.com/ which is a legal music streaming service which pays labels per play (not very much mind you, but technically something) – has a huge catalogue, MoS stuff most likely on there.

also if the youtube videos are hosted by the label, they will often be getting a little advertising cash – not so likely with older music though, which tends to be fan uploaded.

personally if i was keen on a particular old album i’d be more inclined to buy the mp3s for convenience, but spotify gives you a guilt free route for streaming!

i have a toupe on mine, tbh if the width is right, it’s more about your shorts and getting used to it than any magical comfort shape.

or maybe i’ve just not found the right shape.

either way i think i’ve molded myself to this one now, so no bother. (seriously though, i did have problems til i got some nice assos bib shorts, now no longer an issue)

you’re mad to consider anything but a get-you-home fix imo, would be very difficult to keep the tyre shape even without the safety risk or inconvenience of it blowing 30 miles out.

ableton for me too, it’s piss easy and great fun to play with. check a couple bass tutorials on youtube and nick a few drum breaks and dancehall acapellas and you’ll be churning out shite jungle in no time.

you certainly don’t need any hardware.

first ever i would say the new “berm baby berm” blue at glentress – it’s not a long cycle up, it’s like a rollercoaster down, and anyone can do it – it’s not very indicative of what mountain biking is actually like, but it shows how much fun it can be straight away, i.e. how much fun you can have on rougher stuff when you get more confidence.

i have the tops flat so i can rest my forearms along them, and the drops at whatever angle that makes them – if i’m on the drops i’m usually forward so i can reach the brakes anyway, really only use the ends if it’s particularly windy or i need a change of position.

make the bits you use most of the time work for your style of riding.

oh well. tight geometry is desirable, just don’t turn any corners.

not a normal problem with a stock road bike.. do you have a weird position on the pedals? or massive 6.0s? ;)

get something with puncture protection as the main selling point. others might be good and light, but 50 grams doesn’t make up 10 minutes at the side of the road in february. i go with conti gatorskins personally.

same as red lights, is £30 once a year or so worth the time saved? would guess you are less likely to be done for it, but you could be, yes.

well the worst would be that i hit more rocks! but 5mm is pretty tiny.

6’1″ – i run 175 on other (road) bikes, it’s the pedal/crank strike i was wondering about.. seems such a small difference though!

i do have fairly chunky flats on, so i could probably eliminate any cornering differences by getting some slightly smaller pedals.. i do smack rocks straight below sometimes, but tbh that’s probably due more to poor technique than 5mm yeah?

why would “entrenched motorists” watch a dull program about cycling? if that’s the aim then a short slot on a more general magazine kind of show might be more appropriate anyway. the kind of thing you hope they can’t be bothered to change the channel for.

sound like the kind of thing that could get a 4 minute slot in “The One Show”, but you still need a gimmick and a lot of luck.

i usually have earphones in and am passing at a much higher speed, but i would probably make some kind of unpleasant grunting sound as i pass on the off chance they were saying something to me.

all hills mental issues if you have a little bit of fitness. given that you are going cycle touring you will be more than capable of getting up it, it’s just a question of whether you want to..

actually if you had your regular tetanus shots in school, they consider you “covered” for life these days, though consult your doc obviously, i am not one.

i would be almost tempted to wait til the touch screen is available here, or go for the keyboard one.. as dpad typing (for searching for books) is an arse – however you don’t do it _that_ often, so it’s probably not too big a deal.

that’s not to say typing with the keyboard one is too pleasurable anyway!

think i’ve persuaded myself out of that argument there.

you can do 30+ quite easily down there with the wind behind.. nasty

i’ve mentioned it before! it’s really very good – i use it primarily for planning routes by hand, the path following and elevation are great, UI works really well

i have one, haven’t noticed any issues with it, and it was cheap.

i like the spiral numbers too, easy to be accurate in the dark

dpi has no meaning digitally, you probably mean jpg image compression (as a percentage). I don’t think that will be making a huge amount of difference.

latest image uploads is cropped to a square so will usually get something decent but is always a little hit and miss..

nice, but it’s not clear that it’s one continuous track (i assume it is from reading your comments and watching again) because you switch sides and angles without taking the viewer with you, especially at the beginning (18-26 seconds is good! though could be cut tighter) – makes it hard to recognise features – same for shooting the same feature from multiple angles – you need to get the timing bang on (so you don’t seem to be going backwards) and have some frame of reference between shots for that to work well. Cutting in hard close ups make that kind of thing easier too (cos it could be anywhere)

running really slowly but i assume because there’s a lot of traffic right now.. something you might want to consider though.

good to see a proper map system – however you should definitely be putting more emphasis on the “view trail” and gps section – i didn’t initially notice that it was a feature until i noticed it in the FAQ, and had to do a bit of a hunt around on a trail page before i noticed the button – that’s a great boost to your site over some others i’ve seen, so get it clear and up front.

looks very promising though, it’s been well thought out and implemented. I would be wary of the anon editing without moderation but you can always change that if it gets too much.
