orly? i got some ay-ups last year, they’re pretty decent as is but if it’s easy to upgrade.. any guides or anything about?

oh and while it’s called “gps” i just use it as a manual route marker..

    jeffcapeshop

i noticed http://ridewithgps.com now has some new map view options with paths etc.. quite cool.

anyway you ride along the top then back the bottom, or the other way round i suppose, but the best bit by far is down to the road, which isn’t much of a loop..

well that’s what ss is like i think! i just took a dive into it myself but i ride (intake of breath) fixed (on roads!) normally so the hard uphill isn’t unfamiliar – i’m 2:1 too, there’s a couple of ups i couldn’t do which i could have with gears, and getting to the hills on roads is slower than it would be, but actually on trails and general up/down it’s about right most of the time, though as a beginner i’m probably going a little slower naturally than i might later on – most of the time when going down, if i feel i need to pedal, the ratio is about right.

    jeffcapeshop

to be expected if the ratio is much more than you’re used to going uphill with! will get used to it unless your knees are particularly aged/puny

it sounds more like he reached the lights at the opportune time.. no?

incidentally i “passed” a guy on a mtb at some lights, he was looking the wrong way when they changed – he managed to overtake me (for i was “wearing my sister’s jeans” and it was pissing it down) then immediately turned left forcing me to brake!

    was that you? :P

is it me, or is there something rather vital missing from the stem..

ah ok. i suppose actually now i think it means you only have to take links off with the tool, i quite often end up squeezing one on too tight..

    jeffcapeshop

what’s the reason for powerlinks? assuming you need a chaintool to remove the damaged section anyway..

    jeffcapeshop

puncture kit, bit of a chain, crap chain tool/crap spoke key combo, basic multitool, pump, levers, tunnocks caramel wafers

they aren’t either of those things though, they’re carbon.

though may be slightly tricky in its flattened state..

    not just a cleg/horsefly?

so i tried the large-cog-each-side “disco” technique, worked a treat! no offs, i did hear it rattling off them a bit on the rough stuff so think they did the trick..

i’ll probably grind the teeth off to avoid horrendous calf severing and would like to know why it happened in the first place.. but yeah, sorted!

and why doesn’t a sweaty average person need electrolytes? i would have thought they’d need it even more..

folk saying you don’t need salt seems weird.. maybe the day before i had too much salty food but not any more, most of it is now in my stinky clothes.

i definitely need salt in some form on a long ride

if it was a road ride that long i’d want to be eating all the way along too – assuming you’re putting some effort in that might be a good idea. dried fruit/nuts etc.

i assume you’re eating something substantial afterwards too?

get anything, stick it all on then work out your chainline, then space the back accordingly (requires a small amount of maths)

ah cool – not finding them online but now i think about it they’d be a piece of piss to make.. cheers!

still would like to get to the bottom of why it’s happening though.. it’s not common, right?

chain is new and undamaged btw

    jeffcapeshop

    hardtail, sliding dropouts

the chain is definitely not too long, any tighter and it makes that horrible “tight chain” sound.. obviously it’s loose enough to come off i suppose but still.. argh i don’t know

only other thing i could think was that it might be squint but it certainly doesn’t look it.. unless the frame is twisted.

am now finding out that 1/8 cogs aren’t too common.. do they exist?

    jeffcapeshop

if it doesn’t exist i suppose i could just stick a couple bigger cassette cogs on, one each side ;)

it looks like vinocheatcov is trying to shoulder charge the spectator.

he clearly turns his bike, but on a straight road at high speed.. you might dodge a pothole on the ground, but most of your momentum is going to continue forwards, as it does. not at fault in any way.

if you need to stream online and want to avoid the faff of dodgy/foreign stuff then http://www.eurosportplayer.co.uk is £4 for a month, something like that.. the interface sucks but when you get it going it’s pretty good.

you reckon? i think you should be able to find carbon forks and sora for 300 if you look properly. (i.e. an allez most likely)
