I’m selling my 51cm Tripster ATR if anyone is on the lookout for a small one 🙂

    See classifieds.

Sadly under used as I’m a runner and not that good off road on a bike, so will be changing for a road bike.

    Cheers

    That’s the frame I’ve just got – 51cm – and I’m 5’5″ and it’s perfect

Super little bike that’s making me smile every time I go on it.

I’m more if a trail runner tbh, but this seems a great accompaniment as it goes on pretty much all my running trails except for the very rocky sections …. fantastic on gravel or tow paths 🙂

    Great decision to get one

    Ha !

That’s like a super sized version of mine !

I take it that is the largest frame they do – it looks enormous 🙂

It’s a cracking little bike and I feel more at home on it already than my Whyte 146 which I sold to get this.

I like how you can combine road, trail, canal paths, tracks so easily.

Here’s another shot on my local trails from it’s inaugural outing …:-)

    Somafunk,

    Haha !

    Very good 🙂

Don’t fret – it’s got a bottle cage on now so I don’t have to carry a backpack – this was just my first test ride and didn’t require water ….:-)

Here’s a pic of my recently acquired Tripster (from Freeborn) in it’s element on the Pennine moors 🙂

Yeh, I was just testing to see if my links would work 🙂

Well I got my Tripster yesterday from Freeborn before the recent little price nudge.

Superbly packaged and easy for even an idiot like me to assemble.

Had a little 10 mile spin on it last night and what a superb little bike …….

Felt more at home on it immediately than I ever did on my, now gone, Whyte 146.

On a mixture of country lanes, roads, bridleway and stony tracks, it was a hoot to ride ….although it’s speed over gravel sections took me by surprise as I hit a rocky section far too quickly, so will have to watch that.

I’m immediately taken by the compliant ride and comfiness so pretty chuffed so far …:-)

Maybe they can’t get stock …

I found them extremely helpful and proactive but then they had stock in my size.

The Freeborn price has just nudged up again the last couple of days (by £100 or so) and I can’t say I blame them – they can’t be making much at the discounted prices they’ve been running, plus they have to build them up.

I’ve a 51 about to land (just got an email from Freeborn confirming despatch …!) , but I’m near Manchester …

    Gonetothehills,

Love your reasoning in your previous post – beautifully put and precisely the reason I’ve just ordered a Tripster and just sold my carbon mtb which I could not do justice too …

Can’t wait to get my Tripster and just relax and do my own thing 🙂

I’m 5’5 and have ordered a 51 today which I reckon will be just about right.

I did look at the 54 but thought it might be a touch large for me and my short legs 🙂

Well this has been an interesting thread …

So much so that I’ve just ordered a 51cm Tripster from Freeborn today.

Thanks for all the pics and reports – I hope I enjoy mine as much as you all seem to be doing 🙂

    Concur with the above.

I recently sold my Whyte 629 which was a small but still felt huge for my modest 5’5″

The guy who bought it said it’s perfect and he is 5’10” ……..

Oooh … that must be tricky…….

I’ve noticed my missing bit (or the area around it …. there is no stump as such) aching a lot with this colder weather.

Even have to wear gloves running now which I didn’t much before…..

As for holding on techie descents – I couldn’t before so I guess there’ll be no difference there 🙂

At least I can get my hand IN the pocket now …!

Previously I couldn’t do that my finger was so bent.

It is actually quite comical at times now – people’s reactions as well, range from horrified to intrigued to couldn’t give a shit …:-)

Watching that guy with one arm in Champery is a totally different league to my riding though …. :-O

TooTall – great link – cheers, sounds a top guy your mate and hats off to him.

You are of course correct … it’s not long since I had it done, so I need patience.

Fortunately I do more running than biking so getting out, keeping fit, is no issue at all – just be nice to get back on our Pennine trails and quarries for a pootle, maybe in the Spring …

    Cheers 🙂

Kayak – I inadvertently did this at Christmas dinner thinking the finger was still there …!! The nerves haven’t settled down yet and they are still trying to re-connect to what has long since gone …. my brain musn’t have caught up yet as I get phantom pains …:-)

jekkyl – very good point mate !!

Not exactly the nicest looking bikes anyway …:-)

kayak – wow, nice to know someone else out there in a similar situation. I actually had all the little fingers taken off my running gloves …. dead comfy they are now …. but unsure what to about bike gloves. Thought about mitts but again, unsure whether I’d have any feel.

I AM reluctant to start adding things to the bike, so guess I’ll get my grip worked on and go from there.

wwaswas – thanks for the ‘H-bar- suggestion… will certainly look at it

Frank – I never raised my pinkie anyway !!

If you are small and fancy a barely used 2013 Whyte 629, (small) mine will be up for sale in a couple of weeks.

Rides great and would be a superb all-day XC machine

z1ppy – only had it a week and nursing a bad hand post-op so no quarries or rough stuff yet, pus I’m crap at anything that points downhill !!

The 629 has so far been great on local tracks, back roads, wider trails, Rooley Moor etc

Crag Quarry is my favourite sort of stuff, plenty of pedalling, so it will be interesting to see how it compares to the 146 up there … 🙂

Avdave2 – my saddle is just about level with bars.

The spacers have been swapped round and are all above, rather than below.

Nice comfy riding position. Feels racier than on the 146 …

As soon as I work out how to post pcs, I’ll send one

    The LBS are talking bollocks.

I’m 5’5 and my Whyte 629 in small is perfect. The BB height is the same as my 146 full suss as is the wheelbase, give or take a few mm.

Great piece of kit for general hacking around – no idea how it performs on techy stuff but I have no intention of using it for that 🙂

    Cheers

I’ve got one and think its great.

Excellent on mixed surfaces, feels fast, stable and is great fun – not sure what its like on techy stuff yet, but flew up Rooley Moor Road the other night (rough, cobbly uphill track if you don’t know it …)

Size is Small which is quite a rarity I believe
