    9 speed chainrings work fine.

    I operate a g-ring 32tooth.

e-thirteen freechucker chain guide. It seems to do the job, obviously not as good as rollers, but should cope with the mud better.

Genesis Day One? Apart from the track ends (see other thread) I enjoy it a lot.

That not quite CLASSIC bike above though, mmmm. I enjoy that a lot too.

    Great call also,

    Thanks for the help guys.

I have much screw visible to play with, around 1″ on either side I’d say. That sounds like a very good idea. What chain tugs then? The bike is a Genesis Day One Cross so I’m presuming it’s the small kind?

So the chain tugs would have to replace the screws?

What’s the best way to get them out then because brute force is difficult on the 3mm (or even 2.5mm) allen key fitting.

    Cheers

    Luke, here's my thinking,

    Scale – 34, 11:34 9 speed xcx for training

    Surge – 32, 11:36 10 speed e13 ls1.

    tu approve?

This thread is exactly how I've been spending my evening on CRC. Wish I'd have come here first.

    Talk to me about ratios… 32, 11:34?

I did high st and Helvellyn in 9 hours. I'd say 5 hours for High Street.

Yes Terry, my scale is staying in the UK this summer so thought I'd make the most of my XTR chainset this summer and put it on my guide bike. It proved more difficult than I thought, but should work now.

I've also raped the scale of its XTR shifters too. I know it has to be working again very quickly after the season as I have two races in the first two weekends back.

Thanks guys, I worked it out: The bearing cover from the drive side was still stuck onto my other chainset.

Also, I remembered that the spacers from Hope are made from rubber and so squash a bit when they're tightened hard. Why are these spacers made from rubber? Is it to provide a better seal?

    Thanks again

I did the same thing, the lowest stack height I found was the Crank Brothers Iodine. 21mm IIRC. Combined with the Danger Boy Howitzer stem, no steerer tube is too short.

It feels so nice. So nice. I'm a veet man personally, get the stuff for men as it comes in a blue tub so you feel manly.

For me it is just pocket money and board and food. It's the best way to spend a summer, especially when you're a student. I reckon I'll just about break even this summer.

I'm one assessment short of being MBL qualified, I can second Jules Fincham at cyclewise. I'll be doing my first aid course with BASP in Glencoe on Thursday/Friday.

It's a good feeling at the end of a day when your guests are buzzing.

    You should think about it.

You don't need to be that fit! After a couple of weeks of riding everyday you'll feeling pretty good and so already have a natural advantage over the guests.

It seems the only qualifications that you can get over here is the SMBLA, which definitely teaches some good stuff. However it's useless abroad seemingly in official eyes. Well worth doing. This involves needing to have an outdoor geared first aid course, which is at least 12 hours.

Additionally a sturdy bike and a leather scrotum help. The bike handling comes along very quickly with riding everyday. I guess good communication and people skills also…

Should have said that the SMBLA covers some mechanical skills, which are essential also.

p.s. I didn't fail at lubing you last night did I?

    Cheers guys!

It is just spinning round uselessly. It was the first one I tried – when all the others were done up tightly so I did try that way.

I did lube it up a lot! The other 3 still had nice grease on them so this should be no exception!

I want some of those Truativ ones, sounds much much more sensible. Do you have them Luke? I'll be in tomorrow for sure.

It's all so I can have some XTR bling on my guide bike for the summer.

It costs a bloody fortune to drive solo. I did it last year and took me 22 hours from Blackburn. This was with 2 1 hour sleep stops. Very dangerous, but I was excited so it didn't matter. Didn't use my car much whilst there for the season.

Not driving this summer, too much hassle, cost and tomfoolery and need to get back in a hurry to start job in September. I just hope the flights are OK in June!

    Where you driving to?

Edit: The first toll stop you get to has a British side to give you a sense it'll be alright. After that it's a pain reaching over all the time.

Hopefully not before September when I get paid my summer wages in Euros in pounds.

So we're talking about the Billinge woods in Blackburn? It had a good trail in, will be keen to see what they've done. Night riding there always used to be fun because there'd be cars there with people doing interesting things in them.

XXXC is a bit more than agro XC. It's more a way of life and state of mind. The bike and the mountains take you on a journey. At the end of it you feel more complete, but a little bit drained.

I'd say I'm strictly XXXC unless I'm racing when I'd jeycore.

It's just so hard guys, being a student and all the work we have to do. Why can't we poo when we want.

Sometimes I dream of escaping to the rat-race, wear a suit and work in an office where the number of shitters is greater than 3.

Life's just so tough as a student. Why won't you understand?

Good call on the LBS, I'll speak to them.

MrNutt – you've got a point, calling during office hours would probably be more fruitful, thanks. It's just done direct from the manufacturer.

Didn't use a stone tool, I'm not Luke and they aren't Superstar cranks.

Am I entitled to money back I guess is the question I'm asking?

I use Ti egg beaters on my XC race bike because they're light and really good to quickly clip into and also have lots of float for big races. On my guiding bike I use SPDs because they're never going to break.

    bump

OK, so I've now seen one in the flesh and have 2 worries:

1 – its waterproofness. I was expecting a toggle or something. Does it let water in through the gap you get at the top on the sides? Mine would be used for commuting in all weathers.

2 – comfort when on a bike. Guess this is where I'd probably need the messenger.

Thoughts, comments suggestions? It's many pennies, I want it to be perfect!

These look so fit. I'd be sticking on some coil pikes, layback post and 50mm stem.

Thanks DaveyBoyWonder. Good, sound advice. If I can raise the funds and my interview goes well tomorrow, I suspect I will treat myself (when they do a 20% thing again mind!)
