Interesting thread. I can't believe people are still buying expensive hardtails.

    Carry on.

All religious belief is a product of fear. Scholars wrote the bible to prevent anarchy of the peasant masses. Presently the low self esteem, gullible and uneducated people of the world simply find the moral ideas and tales of immortality written in religious texts comforting.

It is strange that certain types of people believe in these concepts more than others no matter what their upbringing involved. Maybe the belief gene does exist, not just for belief systems and spirituality but for UFO's and ghosts etc.

Perhaps we shouldn't be so hard on the tragically afflicted.

The Superlight has a 70 degree headangle, only 100mm travel and a non integrated headset/headtube. In short it's a bit behind the times.

Easily the Stumpy out of those two IMO.

As others have said. If you want to chuck records around and enjoy electronica and rock a 1200/1210 is hard to beat but if you want a little more midband detail/finesse at the expense of usability go for a Rega or ideally a used Michell Syncro or Mycro.

Also if you go down the Rega route I'd recommend their cartridges for fuss free VTA etc but stick with the Bias 2 as the Elys sounds strange IMO.

Have a look at this video of Ueli Steck – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eWCljD5_Rew&feature=related

What he's done over the past few years is almost unbelievable. Eiger North Face, Heckmair route (used to take days) in 2:47mins 8O

I very carefully didn't accuse him of bullshitting. Just of being Odd and controversial with contrary views.

Really? I agree with 99% of what he says and think he is one of the most interesting intellectuals on the planet.
I know a number of people who think the same maybe it's your views that are odd?

The irony is the guy he was putting in the wall enabled him to win a number of his titles by pulling over etc.

Schumacher is just desperate because his team mate is making him look very ordinary.

Surely Messner is of the same generation ? No disrespect to Hargreaves but she pales into insignificance next to him (as probably everyone does IMO).

89 was either a race incident or Prost turned in on Senna when he was nearly parallel. 1990, Senna was on pole and Ballestre (who hated Senna) moved pole after qualifying to the dirty side of the track. Senna knew he wouldn't beat Prost to the first corner, as he definitely would have if pole had been left on the outside, so he said he would go for the corner at at his maximum speed regardless of where Prost was. The rest as they say, is history.

People say Senna was a dirty driver etc but there was a bigger picture behind the events in Suzuka. Unfortunately the same can't be said for Schumacher.

Oh and BTW I'm a Prost fan.

The Veyron piece was predictable and the car is barge. Throw 8 liters and four turbos at it and it ends up just 28 mph faster than a normally aspirated Mclaren F1 launched over 10 years ago. Senna's MP4/4 had nearly 700hp from 1.5 liters in 1988. Now that is impressive.

I really have my doubts it'd beat a Gumpert or R500 around that particular track too. I'm sure keeping Mr Volkswagon happy had something to do with the time.

Massa led 49 out of 67 laps. Kovi never got anywhere near Hamilton while driving for Mclaren. A little different I think.

MBR is full of routes for people who like to ride new areas and the bike tests are in another league to any other publication. BTW the Specialized bias (100% deserved IMO) hasn't been the case for a good few years and Orange have swept the boards in the trail bike and AM bike tests.

IMO you'll get much better resuts with a faster prime, 50mm or so. Low end DX sensors struggle with motion and low light so if you can do without a zoom give one a try.

The UK has some of the best Hi-Fi manufacturers on the market. I don't think they've been mentioned in this thread though.

Sugden, SME, Living Voice, Michell, Nottingham Analogue, Rega, Trichord, Bowers and Wilkins, Meridian, Tannoy etc.

Recently, Linn and Arcam are the worst examples IMO.

JCL – totally unjustified and immature comment, obviously you have no idea about how a modern sub works with sonar, go and do your research before making daft comments like that.

"Military-sponsored tests now suggest that low levels of sonar, which do not cause direct damage to whales, could still cause harm by triggering behavioural changes."

"The UK military report details observations of whale activity during Operation Anglo-Saxon 06, a submarine war-games exercise in 2006. Produced for the UK’s Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, it states the results are “potentially very significant”.

The study used an array of hydrophones to listen for whale sounds during the war games. Across the course of the exercise, the number of whale recordings dropped from over 200 to less than 50. “Beaked whale species … appear to cease vocalising and foraging for food in the area around active sonar transmissions,” concludes the report.

It notes, “Since these animals feed at depth, this could have the effect of preventing a beaked whale from feeding over the course of the trial and could lead to second or third order effects on the animal and population as a whole.”

My comment stands. A huge waste of money and resources and that's without even going into the ethics of the navigation system. The morons who man these things deserve everything they get. 80 million more of us are added to the global human population annually and you lot are actually arguing for a bunch of idiots in a giant nuclear powered/armed metal tube. Now that is ironic…

Oh well at least we'll all be able to sleep at night knowing that an extra 1000 square miles of Iranian desert would be incinerated in a potential future nuclear conflict thanks to the sub and the 'brave lads' onboard.
