Some good advice above, the only thing I can add is that the TUPE terms from her old job will only be protected for 2 years (although this may be extended during the contract negotiations).

    So for example:
If the new company has different redundancy terms, e.g. only pay statutory redundancy pay, when the old company paid a month for every year or similar… the new company could make you redundant after two years and your 20 years terms of service would mean nothing and you would get statutory redundancy pay only.

Also it’s worth noting that discretionary items in your old company, are not covered under TUPE, one of the biggies is bonuses. They might remove it, or say you will get a bonus, but then not pay it, as it’s discretionary.

I got TUPE’d out, and to cut a long story short, it sucks, because the two points above are a reality, plus there were redundancies less than a year in.

Our terms and conditions are protected for three years, I won’t be staying that long.

ACAS is a good source of information for this stuff.

Yeah I think this will only go as far as Shipley, as you say it is annoying because after that it gets worse anyway. I recall around Silsden it is just muddy path with no real aggregate/hardcore or anything.

Email this new lot then with your comments / observations.

Will be interesting to see what they do in response. Feedback on the state of the network from the users should be valuable to them, so long as you don’t present it as the ravings of a frothing-mouthed-loon
Completely agree, although frothing-mouthed-loons deserve an opinion too.

In what way does it need improving?

It doesn’t say for now but I think it’s worth keeping an eye on in case you want to have your say. Off the top of my head I would say some improvements to the surface and the drainage, wider sections to allow walkers and cyclists to pass easily, and better lit sections where it can be a bit gloomy/intmidating at night. My main problem on that route is people getting in a right strop with you if you do ring your bell but also conversely if you don’t, not sure what can be done about that.

I agree with you both 🙂 I’m planning on moving house soon so may influence that a bit. I’d still rather ride the canal in than roadside cyclepaths.

It will be interesting to see what they propose for the roadside cycle paths.

erm… Leeds. Closer to the Dales, Calderdale and the lakes. Bit like Manchester but smaller. Bit closer to Scotland should you be heading up North a lot (on the Edinburgh train line). Fairly cosmopolitan, but I wouldn’t really know about that.

Thanks, anyone know how durable the outer layer of the perkatex and parker jackets are? I have the windjamma jacket and really like it but have a feeling it’d get shreddedby Yorkshire bramble bushes very easiy

Haven’t seen them in years- where did you get them?

Generally a stall in Leeds market, they haven’t had them the last 2-3 times I’ve been in though 🙁

    I’m addicted to these…

Old skool liquorice root sticks. If I ever see them in a shop I tend to buy their current stock (after haggling for a good price).

My total Topcashback earnings is £436.28, just by buying stuff I would have bought anwyay!

I emailed hope last year to see if they had a PF30 version, they said they hadn’t but were working on it! Wonder how close they are now. Might drop them another mail

What year 905? If its the 2011 (orange decals) or the 2012 (grey/goldish decals) it’ll have the PF30 (as opposed to BB30).

Although it’ll maybe say BB30 on the cranks as they are the same size, if you fit HT2 you’ll have to use different cranks as has been mentioned and I’m sure you’re aware.

I’d be curious to know what brand of PF30 BBs he’s been going through to use up four! If he has stuck to SRAM, I’d say give a few another brands (or two) a try before completely ditching PF30. I guess if you already have HT2 BBs and cranks it’s not really an issue – otherwise it could prove quite costly.

I have a whyte 905 and a wheels mfg pf30 and have had no issues so far. My SRAM one went pretty quickly though.

Apologies this does not answer your question in anyway.

If there were no cars on the road I’d gladly cycle my commute every day (also incidentally into Leeds). Too many close calls without even adding the dark into the equation. I find Leeds a terrible place for cycle designed roads (unless you live on the canal path route), I generally now take the off-road route in as much as possible.

The more people cycling, the safer the roads will get, hopefully

The only thing i would say that i hate to get get my head round was the size of the headtube

Oh yeah, you probably won’t need any spacers. Mine came with a negative rise stem, might be a good idea, plus I think they look kinda retro which fits the bike.

+1 they’re ace fun. I’ve found they are at the best when charging through woodland singletrack, not the most agile but then my build is heavy.

I’ve just put a rigid fork on mine so am looking forward to using that when the weather gets a bit better round my way.

We usually use the A65, as he’s a newborn you’ll probably have to drive him, or get the grandparents to do the honours so you can get some sleep. Not sure what he’ll do when he gets there, there’s some lovely countryside and great riding nearby but is probably a bit young even for a balance bike. Good luck and apologies for the crap joke.

I’ve got one with the regular/cheapo bearings, seems to be doing well. No creaks or anything, fitted it last May and no problems as yet but I’ve not ridden it as much as I’d have liked – but it’s survived mountain mayhem, yorkshire/calderdale, the peak and cannock. Easy to fit (if you have the tool) and is structurally better than the SRAM one.

    I’m with JCL.

Whilst I don’t agree with Morrissey’s sentiments, I am ok with him having thoughts outside the norm and expressing as he sees fit. If a newspaper wants to report on them, that is their business, but they will generally always try and make Morrissey out to have extreme views because it sells papers.

I don’t find his opinion anywhere near as distasteful as wishing another human dead or in a coma because of their commitment to animal rights.

The term “Ape” has several meanings, the main one being scientific classication of the super family Hominoidea, of which humans most definitely belong. It contains many species that are vegetarian and many that aren’t. It’s all pretty irrelevant, as we are humans, and we pretty much have free choice to eat what we like. I eat meat but if I had to kill, skin, gut, drain the piss from the bladder, etc, I doubt I would bother.

Yeah there was a lot of power in that kick.

Yup, Silva got $600k for it, presumably he has some decent insurance too so he will be comfortable whatever he does now.

ok so I finally got around to watching UFC 168.

It was a pretty good event. Some very good scraps. I wanted Ronda to loose though, ah well, she is proper skill with the judo though.

I was left feeling sorry for both Silva and Weidman. Silva because he **** his leg and didn’t get to prove that he could beat Weidman, he looked like a different guy going in, the loss clearly got to him last time.
And Weidman because he won again, but under circumstances which didn’t exactly prove he was the better fighter, I don’t think he is like, but if he is, he has lost the chance to prove it.

Anyway I stumbled across this old video of Bas explaining why shin snaps happen:

Makes sense but looking at the replay, it doesn’t look like he had angled his leg wrong, his hips and legs are turned in to throw the shin perpendicular. So I guess he was unlucky, and got checked perfectly.

    eBay seller feedback: 0
I’ve done a quick google to see if I can find out if it has been reported stolen but doesn’t look like any of them.

Is there anything that can be done? It would be good if there was a central place people could report stolen bikes to. Does that already exist? (Don’t say the police as I’m sure this isn’t their no 1 priority!)

I would buy a new one anyway. Prove the old one doesn’t work and take it back, or if it does work (after a low level format in the camera for example) then keep it as a spare. I loose count the number of times I forget my memory card, or forget to take the pics/footage off it and need the extra space, I’ve had them go funny before too (although some years ago). A spare is often invaluable.

I’m a canon/gopro user and have found the transcends great value for money (if not so great for high bitrate video if you use magic lantern).

It’s a shame this thread had about 3% UFC 168 content, and 97% discussion about whether people like UFC/MMA, and if it should be banned or not.

I’ve not watched it all but am looking forward to it tonight, I couldn’t avoid the Silva spoilers though, they were everywhere.

Presumably mandatory because the implications of wearing white gloves and/or a helmet with a built in visor manifest themselves daily, on piste, with horrendous consequences?!

Better to just wear something that fits and that you are comfortable in. Worst case scenario is you wear something loud and draw a bit of attention to yourself but you dont have the steezey skillz to pull it off.

All my gloves are black, one of my helmets is white, the other two are black, one of which is a bern one with a peak.

Maybe the only real practical rule that applies to helmets is try not to be a gaper, as you will have a cold forehead.

Looks good, goes well with the blue trousers, not quite so well with the green, ce le vie! I think its good to look distinctive on the slopes, there’s a million people with black trousers and red or blue jackets so best to stand out so your mates can find you.

Not sure where those rules above were made up, kinda restrctive. I like snow gear, you can look cool in it, I maintain it is impossible to look good in bike gear.

I’ve had some good mounts (alu k-edge copy, and sucker mount, and alu screws) from deal extreme (dx.com) great value if you can wait for the shipping. I tested out the k edge go big mount clone on cannock last week and was impressed!

I also have the official gopro chest mount.

You can of course attempt to left foot brake but if this is something you’ve not done before I guarantee you will be VERY heavy footed

Haha, yes remember to extract your teeth from the steering wheel after you try this.

    jaymoid

Pretty similar, right foot on the brake as per normal (most people if they try and use their left foot it’ll hammer on the brake!). They are a bit less fuel efficient sometimes, I think more modern ones are addressing this.

These videos you see on the internet of cars looking possessed and driving into houses or reversing all over the place, most are automatics that have been left in Drive or Reverse.
