I have had an X9 gear set up with clutch rear mech but moved to XT. I didn’t like the way SRAM shifters were positioned and the XT has a louder Thunk, and much smoother (read lighter) shifting.
I personally prefer Shimano, not much help but there it is!

Overdrive 2 is 1.5″ at the bottom and 1 1/4″ at the top, so you need a different (again) size stem!

I wouldn’t by an On One. Have a look for the recent thread about how the headset was knackered after 12 rides and the warranty people wouldn’t sort it.

Sounds like pretty bad kit and rubbish customer service to me.

I think that’s pretty “general” and as I have had no probs with the warranty dept of On-one, should be taken with a pinch of salt. To be fair there are’t many companies that can match them for value, do read the small print of their ride to work page though 😉

What JoeG is saying is if the LBS price matches the online store then the customer should receive the bike in the same state, ie delivered in a box without all the tweeks the LBS offers to ensure the bike is running right.

Try North Shores instead of Ruffians – here.

You could also try these for cheapness…

But Hollowtech and GXP aren’t compatible so unless you are going to get Hollowtech cranks or go with Hope and buy an adaptor, then you are stuck with sram!

    Tape

Although when I did mine I just ran insulation tape round twice tightly, it’s only to stop the rim strip going into the spoke holes and tearing.
I’m sure someone will be along shortly to tell me I’ll die, but I haven’t as yet 😉

The ifp on the monarch can be filled with air – you will need the adaptor though. You can strip down without depressurising the IFP- I believe!

Why not run a set of mud snake or flying snake gear cables, or even the sealed gore ones?

I don’t know, but if this is the same as Notubes/Noflats etc it’s a bargain.

Have you thought about a Duster not 853 but the Tange equivalent (almost).

There’s a Latitude on the bay here if it’s the right size for you?

Plain old On One Scandal with clown wheels

    jasonm945

The front is 9mm, you’d have to widen normal dropouts to fit a 10mm.
The rear is 10mm, the are just thicker Qr’s that do away with the need for hubs to provide the means of resting against the dropout.
Many of us couldn’t tell the difference between these and bolt up’s!

Superstar do a decent set – Here

Don’t forget you will need to change the endcaps/axles on your hubs…

The Scandal will be lighter and stiffer…

    But…

The Soul is highly praised for its steel responsiveness, many riders use them as their “all day” bikes and are extremely happy with them. Also they hold their value better than an On One.
Most experienced riders on here compare the soul’s feel to Kona’s of the 90’s.

If it’s for longer rides then it will (almost) certainly beat you up less than the scandal.

    Hope this helps some!

In a weird twist I would say that the scandal frame is as compliant as the inbred (if not more so) and 1 1/2lbs lighter. I believe Brant designed the scandal frame to feel as steel-like as possible (though I could be wrong so await him to correct me!)

If I had the choice of those 3 frames the scandal is the way I would go for long XC rides.

I think for longer day rides you would be as well off with the inbred which is slightly less over built.

Looks good, but how tall are you? Would one of these fit?
That way you get a stonking pair of forks aswell 😀

    Jay

Off the top of my head I believe it depends on the year of the fork manufacture.
Up to a certain year oil was used in the airspring side, it then changed to grease in 2011 or 10 (I think).
I suspect you won’t die, but anything in the airspring side will make the travel less linear.

    Hope that helps.

OnOne smoothie mixer on mine. Don’t think you need to slacken the head angle but up to you. Superstar also do aheadset that comes with both crown races if you can get past the snobbery.

I have only found the Sanderson in 1 place on the internet, any ideas who sells them cheaper?
Doesn’t mention double butting on their website. Pipedream Scion looks nice I looked at these but from what I remember were over 5lbs which put me off being a fussy bastard and the rocklobster only being 4.25lbs.

You are right I can only find them at Activesport!!!
As for the scion I enquired at the beginning of the year and have an email from them stating the scion weighs 4.7lbs…
    thebikechain.co.uk have a 16″ Breath in for £199.

You can get a Sanderson Life for less than £400. I think the quality is as good as the other 2, and they are double butted etc. They are very long in the tt but will quite happily accept 120mm forks.
What about the Pipedream Scion which is less than those you have looked at, I believe they are also CEN rated for 130mm.

Don’t think there is much to beat the OnOne for the cash you pay, and as has been said before, it is the most steel-like aluminium frame you will find.

I have Reba’s on mine and love it.

Voodoo Wanga or hoodoo (proper one not the halfords variant), come up on the ‘bay all the time!

I had a 2nd hand Sanderson Life frame of here for a little bit more than your budget, superb frame and fantastic all-rounder.

I think you need a 2 speed front shifter with a double as the spacing is different (I Think!).
I also believe the rule of thumb is 2 rings at the front medium rear mech, 3 rings for a long. My bike came with a medium and I have an 11-36 rear mech!

Personal preference but I think the SSC wheels are bargains, true the bearings aren’t as good as hopes but they’re easily replace when needed.
Mine weigh within 18 gms of Hope Hoops specced the same (i.e. crest and dt spokes)

I had an inbred for ages – when all is said and done the frame is 2lb heavier than a comparable alloy, at that price you can’t go wrong.
Oh – and they ride nice aswell!
