Unless it dries significantly in the next 6 weeks I’d suggest you take a drive Northwards to the Dark Peak, or park on the High Peak Trail at Newhaven and piece together some of the Millers Crossing route, which is relatively well drained.

    http://flattyres-mtb.co.uk/route-guides/peak-district-mtb-routes/millers-crossing/

Currently, everywhere is flooded and swamp like, especially around the 5 Dales Route (I live on Bradford Dale and we have a lovely new lake).

The Voodoo Bizango Carbon looks a bargain, though whether it is dropper post friendly isn’t shown.

Further tot he headset question, the original specs had the headset as a 42/52 but the link now points to a 44/56 (which seems more likely).
Brant, could you confirm what the headset sizing is?

The Anthem was called Anthem X for a number of years, I believe the X denoted the 10cm of travel when it changed from the 80 and 90mm of the earlier Anthems, and maybe why the current 29er does not have the X attached to it. The Anthem has always been an XC bike though MBR placed it high in their “Trail bike of the year” competition.

I’m running a 2015 frame that had been butchered but I picked up for peanuts, with 120mm Reba’s and an offset bushing. Can handle most things I throw at it and I live in the Southern Peaks. I’ve swapped the lower bearings once and they seem to be holding out OK, the top ones are still rotating smoothly. The maestro is nice and smooth under pressure but can get a little over excited under faster spinning situations however, I do keep the shock fully open all the time. The dodgy respray is scraping off now so I’m thinking of getting it powder coated, unless someone gives me a new frame I’ll be sticking with it.

With the Elite’s you should have the QR adaptors and red caps which are the 142×12 adaptors, without the adaptors they are 135×12. The Elite’s are a pretty good wheel, I like mine :)

The U2 mini is a torch used as a bike light and takes a 18650 battery, Is this a back up light as IMO it isn’t bright enough for MTBing. I have one I used to have on my Road bike and it is very good but I recall not that good in the woods etc.

I bought the Mk1 quite cheaply second hand, it’s also a medium and I’m running a 90mm stem and, with a 420mm reverb, have just over 110mm in the frame. I am also the antithesis of light!
My intent was to buy a set of Hope Hoops, the pro 4 enduro’s and as it will be my only bike I’d like something nice.
I have spoken to Paul briefly who has said that a large will allow me to run the seat post deeper and have a shorter stem.
How much will this affect/improve handling? Will the shorter stem offset the extra wheelbase of the frame?
As I have a relatively short body and long legs I feel, that although I have enough Seatpost in the frame I am pushing it. However, I love the ride it gives and that is what is making me wonder if keeping it and using the money for a holiday is a better idea?

Ex Long Eaton, a bit further north now, but we have a few Derbyshire/Peak GPX’s on our little facebook page here[/url]
We have a couple of riders from the L.E. area and we are mostly more ‘mature’ riders. Always looking for new riders to join us

I like superstar’s mtb wheels (sorry bike snobs) but I tend to tighten the spokes before I use them. Both I and my brother have had SS road wheels and in both cases found them to be as flexible as boiled spaghetti, even after tightening the spokes they were still very flexible, although we both weigh a fair bit.

I have a set of ultegra and find them lovely, I wouldn’t recommend SS road wheels.

Huge thanks for all the replies, I know about the open Text fields and the conflicting questions, but they were done for a reason ;)
I will be working on a number of graphs etc over the next week or so as I present next Thursday, once that’s done I will post for all to see.
It’s great being a student at 45, especially knowing that it’s highly unlikely I’ll have anywhere near long enough to pay my loans off unless I’m earning 100k+ and good as I think I want to be I don’t think that’ll happen.

    Again Mahoosive Thanks to everyone….

A good quality silicon spray (not a silicon substitute i.e. WD40) goes a long way. Finish Line do a very expensive stanchion lube and it comes with little straws so you can get inside the lip of the seals…

You all need to head further north to the mountain biking Mecca that is Ilkeston. Miles of bridleways, towpaths and cycle paths you can play on for hours. None of it techy or gnarr though.

You are right – no gnarr at all!

I think the SRAM BB30 crank spindle is too narrow, Rotor’s are slightly longer.

That’s what my research showed, could be wrong!
