Delonghi here too, same Amazon deal 👆🏻

I like you can swap between beans and ground (assume all bean to cups do this?) Makes switching to decaf easy without emptying the bean hopper (doctor’s orders!)

Seems to ask for a descale quite frequently, but that’s only the milk frother that we rarely use as we drink black.

Well, Brand-X is cheap, simple and works well. Also a bit heavy and develops play. However, CRC very good IME sending you a new one when the play gets too annoying.

Still rate my OnePlus 6. Hasn’t missed a beat, fast, not tempted to change it yet. Amazon still have the 6/6T for around £500. Gets quick OS updates too, Android 10 due this month. Or if camera is top priority, Pixel 3a.

👍🏻thanks. My rack is the cheapest Thule towbar one, which just has toe-straps for securing everything. One of those frame protectors looks just the job. I do the same with an old rag at the mo to stop paint rub, but prob doesn’t protect it much.

As another sense-check, what 4G speeds do you get on a phone outside? Does it match the 60Mbps Orbi’s speed test is claiming?

    Jamze

Just out of interest did a similar speed check on my Deco mesh setup, slightly surprised I’m getting pretty much full speed at my phone.

Internet speed using the built-in Deco app – 69.6/18 Mbps
On my Android phone/WiFi using Ookla – 68/15.2 Mbps

Remember 5GHz has less range, so distance can become an issue before it does with 2.4GHz. Have no experience of Orbi, but how do they interconnect? Does the Orbi app show a max strength connection between all the modules? Ignore if it’s Ethernet backhaul. Worth raising a support ticket with Orbi? Perhaps all the security and extra features have an overhead?

This is the service guide people have linked to on other threads. Isn’t the air cartridge sealed on these? So no way of depressurising before a service?

Mine’s still smooth, although it’s developed a bit of play.

XR was the sweet-spot when replacing the wife’s 7 this year. £100 off on Prime day too, so didn’t think bad for £650 (plus the old phone eBayed for £200). I’d look for deals on these unless you’re desperate to have the latest and greatest.

I aspire to be as organised as @devbrix 😀Those ladders look the business. One of our borders is a long line of mixed hedging and trees, and access is a PITA with wide borders on our side, and a narrow verge on the roadside. Always end up balancing on step ladders with bits of board underneath to keep them level.

are you intending to use wider tyres on your 26 incher and is that why you want wider rims. I would not have thought a wider rim alone would prevent pinch flats with a 2.1 tyre. Have you tried more pressure in the tyre?

You’re right, thinking about it. Knee-jerk reaction was I want tubeless like my other bike, but unless I also get larger volume tyres on there (not much room), I’m no better off, will still pinch-flat (or burp). P’raps I should keep as is, stick with skinny tyres and high pressures.

It seems a pity to get rid of a rim as nice as an XC717 though!

Do you run inserts on your other bike? Is it a hardtail? I would consider going for wider tyres if they will fit in either way.

I know, had these wheels over 10 years and still true despite the dings. The other bike is a T-130 with 2.5 tubeless – no inserts. Part of the problem, I think. That bike has opened up my eyes to what abuse larger volume tyres on wider rims can handle.

I find any wider than 2.1 on the XC717 and the tyres end up with an exaggerated round profile, feel like they are rolling off the rim unless silly high pressures.

Maybe ride more carefully on the P7 is the boring answer 😀 Just had a run of bad luck recently, five rides in a row with pinch-flats. Got a fairly sedate ride tonight with workmates for example, normally would use the hardtail, but taking the Whyte as don’t want another flat…

Ta. Aren’t my rims too skinny (17mm?) for inserts? Would also need to convert to tubeless, not sure how that would go on these old Mavic rims?

Cool. Must attempt this on my stepdad’s Lenovo when I’m next there. Didn’t realise it was still free (on the quiet)

@twrch and @carlos good point. The Whyte has zero of the fixed bit of the dropper exposed – I could just extend it and clamp on that :)

    Jamze

It’s more the pulling up on a dropper rather than the weight, thought that was a bad idea, especially with Reverbs? Results in squish?

Whatever you do you’ll get the numpties. We’re next to a church and primary school. Generally, people are sensible but get the odd issue. On a narrow road/sharp bend too. An advisory white line on the road.

Somebody picking up kids parked tight up behind me whilst I was in the middle of loading the bike in the boot, refused to budge so I ended up lifting the bike horizontally over her bonnet. She just sat there, engine running.

Our old picket gate opens out onto the highway. When the church has something on, people park on the pavement tight against the gate – we can’t get out of the house.

Had the Gtech AirRam/Multi for a few years. Wouldn’t get them again. Power is OK but not brilliant, the Multi (the original one) has an issue where the case splits. Sorted under warranty twice. When it splits the next time I’ll get something else.

Side-loads used to be the problem didn’t they? The later, single-chainring Whytes are supposed to be stiffer though? My early Stumpy FSR used to eat shocks regularly.

When my Monarch was swapped out, guy in the LBS said there’s a bit of a disagreement between RS and Whyte as to why they’re failing. RS claiming that Whyte’s frame design is killing them…Whyte say RS should be providing a tune they works on the frame.

How does the cost of renting bikes there compare with hassle/cost of getting your bikes on the MX5? Or renting a van for the trip?

    Jamze

Ta, great source of info, missed that. One recommendation on shock is the Monarch Plus with ML3 tune as the frame is low leverage. Need to find out what the one they sent me is somehow. This is 2-year-old info of course.

Chief Exec on the radio this morning. Get the impression National Grid is trying to be diplomatic and not point fingers at either the Generators (who’s plant fell off the network in the first place) or DNOs (who had some strange prioritisation of who they switched off when Grid requested 5% demand to be shed). However, comes across to joe-public as being vague.

original Monarch debonair with original tune (mid?)

Does anyone know if the original shock Whyte shipped the bike with are a custom tune? My original one didn’t last long enough for me to take a look, replacement Monarch Plus def feels much more linear. I now run less sag as a result, but would some volume reducers help?

Monarch Plus RC3 @sam3000? They did the same for me after my Monarch got stuck down. It’s OK but interested if people see improvements with something else.

Interesting @grtdkad. So in this scenario, is there any prioritising of who gets disconnected? I (like many ‘normal’ consumers) was fine. But hospital, airport and rail were interrupted? I would have thought telephony/hospitals/key transport would be the last to be turned off?

Today will be squeaky bum time for managers at Ipswich General Hospital – let’s hope ventilators had well-charged back-up batteries.

I thought hospitals and rail were protected demand i.e. shouldn’t be part of any low-frequency tripping scheme? Something the review will pick up with the Distribution Companies no doubt. But yes, a good test of peoples continuity arrangements. A chap on the radio said Ipswich got away with it, critical stuff on battery despite the generator not kicking in.

Did this years ago on hols in Utah/Colorado. Pedal thread stripped halfway around Slickrock. Put it down to dodgy threads on the rental bike as they’re having pedals swapped all the time. Anyway, a bike shop in Moab swapped it FOC for a crank off one of their rental bikes.

Wishing I had photoshop handy to put a shark fin into the middle of that pond of Jamzes’… 😱

    Now there’s an idea for a heron-scarer :)

On the ponds, agree about kids. None at home for us now, but when young nieces and nephews are here, can’t let them out of your sight. Parents have holiday lets and a decent sized pond, and one of the families kids fell in. Dad had to leap in fully clothed and pull him out, lucky he was out there.

Love ours, very peaceful. Takes a bit of work to keep it healthy for plants and fish. Has shallow end with rocks to help anything that falls in clamber out, decent filtration with UV to keep algae and crap at bay. Attracts loads of wildlife, including predators so you need to think about how to deter them (or let nature take its course)

The 1 thing that is annoying me is how much of a pain it is to upload pics as it involves a PC and removing the memory card. I have now learned that most new cameras deal with this with WiFi to your phone.

See if you can demo the Canon WiFi transfer see how useful it is. With my Nikon DSLR, which does WiFi transfer…

    – The app on the phone is buggy, connectivity is hit and miss;
    – When it works, it’s slow;
    – I don’t want the pics in my phone – I want them on my MBP.

So I don’t use it, still eject the SD card and stick it in the Mac.

@sam_underhill I almost got a Fire Stick the other day on Prime Day to try 24p – is this the 4K stick only? Have you got a Netflix account and can see if they’ve updated their app too?

    Jamze
    Full Member

But with films, the cinematography is done with 24p in mind, which is why films look like they do. Guess why people want to see it in 24p rather than letting a TV or STB muck around with it.

I never got that thing with projectors showing the same frame twice, how that is any different?

Time to get the manual out for the AV receiver then, see if you can force 24p?

    Jamze
    Full Member

Hmmm. It says on various articles that all video on Prime is 24p, so should be working. Have you checked what refresh rate your TV is actually using when playing something?

‘For the frame rate matching feature to work, the app used to play the video must support it. At this time, all videos through Amazon Prime Video will correctly take advantage of this new feature, but most apps, such as Netflix, have not yet been updated to use the feature. With the frame rate matching feature enabled, videos played in unsupported apps will simply play at a refresh rate of 59.94 Hz, just as they have always played.’
