Often wondered if you get the aircraft equivalent of boy racers. Get quite a few small private planes around near us, guess the scenery attracts them. Often see them doing loops, dives and stuff.

    Haven’t seen a B2 Spirit yet, though.

B2 was around here a few months ago. Quite low too. Amazing thing, like batman had arrived.

Does anyone on this thread look like they have high blood pressure?

My GP has never said various weird symptoms I notice are directly caused by high BP, but they do seem to reduce when I look after myself, get the weight down. My weight has yo-yo’d a bit this year, initially made good progress, then let it slip a bit (fell into that ‘sod it, I’ll just enjoy myself’ mindset), weight/BP went up again, now back on track 🤞🏻

Yes, my complexion is ruddy (people say I always look healthy/tanned, ask if I’ve been on hols). Also get bad, throbbing headaches and sometimes with migraine-like stuff, vision goes a bit weird. When I was stressed and still working this used to happen when driving, had to stop on several occasions.

Agree take BP readings so you can see how you’re doing independent of the GP visits. What I struggle with is the instructions say sit comfortably, relax for 5 mins, breath slowly then take a reading. I can do this and prob get an OK reading – but I’m not doing this for 90% of my day?

Isn’t it the spikes/peak in BP when you are stressed/rushing about/putting a load on your body that are an issue?

I’d consider maybe buying your own blood pressure monitor and checking your BP when you’re at home and more relaxed. You can always make a note of results and take them in with you when you see your GP.

I did this but found even taking my BP at home stressed me out 😂so now take the occasional reading (but carry on with the living healthy stuff obvs.)

I have a similar issue. BP readings for me vary quite a bit, can get high, and doc has put me on ACE inhibitors, then recently increased the dose.

Yes, weight, alcohol, poor sleep hygiene, salt etc. all contribute for me. I’m active, generally fit but have realised this doesn’t mean I can eat/drink what I like, so recently have dropped 8 pounds not eating crap. Target is another stone before Christmas and then keep it there.

My GP says this is very likely inherited as everyone in my family on both mum and dad’s side has had heart issues or strokes. Mum/two uncles had stents, one uncle had heart surgery and stroke, both grandfathers heart attacks and dad high BP 🙄

If it’s a new iphone, it’ll come with a lightning to 3.5mm jack adaptor in the box.

They don’t any more 👎🏻 As others said, I’d just get the 8 quid Apple adapter. I have a few USB and Bluetooth DAC/headphone amps which are cool with hi-res music, but for out and about it’s just another thing to keep charged and you have a cable on the headphones anyway.

Was the worst thing about a works lease car, having to use Kwik Fit. Wasted hours over the years sat in their receptions. Remember one time them trying to convince me the non-runflat tyre they’d fitted was ‘fine mate, no probs mixing them’. Don’t really know why they’d done it, lease company had no issue paying for the proper runflat.

Been using Radioplayer for a week. Seems good. Both Android and iOS, free, only permission it requires is location – says it needs that to work out your local radio stations. Not noticed many ads.

Has alarms and sleep timers. Nice and simple once you’ve set your favourite stations, and it has a schedule under ‘more’ where you can easily scroll back and listen to a show on catchup.

Sorry, yes towing weight is 5000 lbs (I was in a hurry posting), but the other limits I quoted were correct. Just to clarify with the precise figures:-

Towing limit: 5000 lbs (2268 kg)
    Nose/Tongue weight limit: 500 lbs (227 kg)
    Accessory/bike rack limit: 120 lbs (54 kg)

Interesting the nose weight is so high on the Model X. Is that because it self-levels, means it can take more before the front wheels lift 🤔 My big 4×4 has self-levelling too, is about the same weight as a Model X and can take 150kg on the nose.

Put it on my MBP. Initially in another HD volume, thought I’d try it, come across issues, so easy to switch back until they sorted everything.

Turns out everything works fine for me. So imported my photos, music and films. Quite happy with it. I’ll keep Mojave somewhere so I can still use Aperture if I want to – do need to sort that and find another photo app.

The wife’s MBA she uses professionally for music composing, won’t touch that. Her Mac is usually a full OS version behind.

So foreign users can still stream via TuneIn whereas license fee payers can’t ?

Yep. Wonder what the BBC and TuneIn fell out over? They go on about inability to gather the data they wanted on their blog. Must have been important to justify dumping thousands (millions?) of listeners.

Also, this is all I get when I try to use BBC Sounds in the car. All the other music sources (Amazon, TuneIn, Pocket Casts etc.) work fine…

What’s the issue with going with the flow, use email to interact with her? People have different communication preferences. I’ve had colleagues who were 100% verbal, managing all the deskside interrupts and chats was a pain, and as people say, I had no records of anything so added to my workload keeping notes and managing it.

We worked in a very busy incident response centre, all in a room. Pretty much all the interactions were via IM, email etc. We wouldn’t have handled the workload otherwise. And post-incident, when you have to explain what the team did in front of the big bosses, everything is recorded.

Guess your neighbour has got a powerline then that’s connected to yours instead of the other one of his. He’s prob sat there wondering why his powerline has stopped working. An opportunity here to half both your internet costs?

Haven’t used powerline for a while, but from memory out the box they’ll just connect, but for security recommended to pair them?

    Jamze

Interesting…did a bit of googling, some of the results suggest powerline might work between properties if you are on the same drop/phase?

    Makes no sense.

I did once live in an old victorian house, and a builder behind us has power and hot water that was connected to us (without us knowing). His yard was originally part of our house years ago.

Are you sure you don’t have guest wifi enabled that people are connecting to? The kids opposite sometimes jump onto ours when it’s turned on.

Can you repeat it? Turn the powerline back on, do you see the connections again? If so have a chat with the neighbour.

See my post earlier with the URLs to the high quality streams, perhaps you can do something with those ? My Roon can tune in to them.

Cheers. From what I know I’d have to create an Alexa developer account and start creating custom radio skills. Can’t be bothered. The house has now given up on the BBC and moved to talkRADIO/Virgin/Radio X/Amazon Music. Sod ’em.

Notice somebody has created a petition concerning the BBC dumping TuneIn…

When I queried the BBC dumping TuneIn (and thus removing all my Alexa/Sonos functionality) the advice that came back was that I should use BBC Sounds on a phone, and Bluetooth to one of my Echos. Yeah right, we’re all going to sit around one echo like it’s some ’50s wireless.

    Jamze

So the next stage of forcing people onto BBC Sounds. BBC Radio dumped TuneIn for UK listeners this week. So no more BBC Radio at home on our Alexa/Sonos setup 👎🏻 And the BBC skill is cr*p, you lose most of the Alexa functionality (multiroom, alarms, routines, Sonos integration, stereo…)

Kieran Clifton, Director, BBC Distribution & Business Development has published the following blog yesterday entitled ‘An update on the BBC and TuneIn’ which addresses comments and questions around the changes:

Thanks all, lots to look into. My wife has been through this for both her parents, so I know roughly what’s involved, but they had everything in order and the family solicitor was very hot on keeping tight control of the estates.

He’s not well enough to travel back here unfortunately, I’ll look into if I can represent his interests from over here.

OP, you stated that there are no wills

When they split up, there were no wills. He’s been told today by her family she has a will now (but we have no evidence of that yet).

    England or Scotland?

England, although he is/they were expat. Does that make any difference?

I got him to flag the transaction on his joint account to the bank as possibly fraudulent. They noted it, but once they heard the circumstances don’t think much will happen, they said they need the death certificate ASAP to formalise freezing that account.

He’s not had the death cert yet, or any info on will, executor, solicitor etc. so from his perspective, the process hasn’t started yet.

How did they access the account?

From the ‘oops, sorry’ message, she left them her banking credentials, which they used.

If they have done this within a short time frame then my money if on the former, not the latter as probate takes weeks to get

In this scenario where a couple has separated, can probate all happen without the husband’s involvement at all if he’s not a beneficiary, named her own executor etc? Thinking about it, how can they work out what her estate is if there was no formal divorce/financial settlement between them? She died 3 weeks ago, could they get a grant of probate in that time?

Our family have zero issues with her will, just unclear what should happen.

On the wills, they had none when they split up, being told now she made one. Obviously dad would need to check this.

He’s now been told she has. We assume leaving everything to her family (which is not an issue).

    Something here…

    https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/family/guide-to-probate/

Been through this recently with both MIL and FIL, circumstances sound similar with wills all in place and inheritance tax.

We had a family friend who was a solicitor, so let him do it. There did seem to be an awful lot of checking everything was in order, working through 7 years of finances to check for any gifts etc.

On the estranged sister, who knows. With this in the mix, I think I’d at least look at the costs of a professional.

    Best wishes and good luck.

On the tax, yes she gets any unused portion of her husband’s allowance. So up to £650k (if it hasn’t changed).

Recently I’ve bought a re-issue of Buckingham/Nicks, Tinariwen, The Beatles Abbey Road, Opeth, the New Pornographers, Pixies, Sheryl Crow, Warren Zevon, and Lankum, an Irish folk band.
I’m not sure how Spotify or other streaming service would quantify those.

I’m prob not typical, but I don’t use the algorithms, I’ll find and listen to a whole album (doing it now, Buckingham/McVie), and I don’t worry if I don’t have time to listen to everything 😀

Quick check, all of the above are on Amazon Music, many in lovely hi-res too.

My dad actually flew them for real, between 1940 and 1945.

I’ll be watching this with slightly misty (and, no doubt, rose-tinted) eyes

Similar here. FIL flew in 602 Squadron, was shot down over France. Got the pilot’s manual for his Spitfire. Boultbee, whose pilots flew in this film, and are also involved in the Silver Spitfire, were great supporters of the veterans. Spent a few happy weekends with him at Westhampnett. They flew ‘City of Exeter’ at his funeral.

Quite liked the film, was always supposed to be a British pilots view rather than exhaustive history I think, part of the RAF’s centenary commemorations.

Have them on the HT when it gets mucky. Correct, not an all-rounder.

Hi Andy – it’s got the sport auto box too, with the command shift. Didn’t think I’d use it but it helps when it can’t quite decide what gear to be in!

What’s the auto on the FL2? I have a bit of fun keeping an older RR going, which has a ZF, and one of the best things I’ve done is service the gearbox (fluid flush, new filter, sump and new fluid) which transformed it. Really makes a difference, no more hesitation. Land Rover said these were sealed for life, but ZF disagrees.

What is this obsession with bloody streaming?

God knows, I hear Wax cylinders are great too.

Maybe the access to 50M/35M songs for the price of one CD a month attracts people??

So is that what the $5k in coins is all about, getting something dodgy into the country? Sounds like it was pretty well organised, he swears the women on Skype matched the profile pic, even though I’ve proved the same pic is used all over the place with different names. A gang behind the scenes I guess.

Good point, I’ll try and find out what sites he’s using, suggest decent ones. Power of attorney is an ongoing discussion. Lives abroad which doesn’t help. A worry, he’s so convinced these people are real. I had to reverse image search the last one’s profile pic to show him the same pic had been used multiple times on different sites for years.

I’ve heard folk say that Lauren Lavine is a bit lightweight for DID, but she teased out the details that “made Thom in a very persuasive and gentle way to get the best from him.

Came across that they knew each other, perhaps why the interview worked. When asked what he aspires to now, stopped me in my tracks a bit. Top bloke.

Thanks @oikeith, good to hear. I’ve just bought a bunch of cheap microfibres cloths too, upgrading the old rag I use 😀

Guess most of the issues described above are the ratchet-style clamps, especially the early ones where they give you a mechanical advantage when tightening with no limit.

Just me pulling on a fabric strap is never going to be that tight.

Agreed, don’t worry about if working. After some more checks here, I think I have a similar issue, mesh system with 5 units, and I always assumed the point was they gave you a decent, consistent speed everywhere via a dedicated backhaul. Doesn’t seem to be the case, speed depends on which unit I connect to?

If I’m in the house, i.e. no more than a unit away from the router, getting the 65/20Mbps speeds. Out in the garden/workshops, it’s more like 25/14Mps. The only difference is there’s another unit in the chain. Everything is showing max WiFi strength, both on the mesh units and phone 🤔
