    4x these:http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-UltraFire-3000mAh-18650-Protected-Li-ion-Battery-/110576073884?pt=UK_ConsumerElectronics_Batteries_SM&hash=item19bed8fc9c#ht_1315wt_907
(they accepted an offer of £12 for 4 batteries when i bought them)

A 4x 18650 holder from BCT (if he has some left still) for a couple of quid.

Chop the holder in half, add a few bits of wiring etc to run the batteries in series. Stick the resulting product in a water bottle with the cable of your choice coming out of the mouthpiece through a drilled hole. (Tesco value water bottle for £1.25 worked perfectly for me). Pad out the space with bubblewrap to stop the batteries shaking about inside.

    bobs your uncle 😉
EDIT: you’ll want a charger as well

to be honest there isnt much actually in hexham at all in the way of hotels etc. langley castle isn’t a bad shout, but you will be better off looking for somewhere else in the tyne valey. i know the owners of the barrasford arms (used to work for them in hexham golf club)- great place; they have rooms and a top notch restaurant attached: http://www.barrasfordarms.co.uk/

EDIT: Looks like they’ve got some special rates at the moment as well…

fastest on an mtb will be that road coming off walna scar back into consiton. that is a massive brown trousers moment when you think what would happen if the brakes were to stop working.

battery holders and a few 18650’s off ebay will set you back less than £20. You just need to figure out someway of waterproofing them. Im planning on putting mine in a water bottle with the cable coming out of the mouthpiece…

cheers troutie. if you don’t have a proof of postage then get one with the parts you send out now and claim off that one instead, and you are more than welcome to exaggerate the cost of the parts as they deserve it with the complete hash they have made of the post this crimbo.

we are flying so i’m afraid stopping somewhere else isn’t an option. i’ve got hope m4’s with 203/183 rotors and kevlar pads so stopping shouldn’t be a problem.

we are all taking 140mm full sussers and plan to do as much of the DH stuff as we are able to, but are by no means downhillers. still a wise choice to go dual ply?

Let me clear this up (3rd year biology degree so I hope i’m qualified enough to). Females have diploid XX chromosomes so after meiosis the haploid gametes are all X. Males have XY chromosomes so produce X and Y gametes in equal quantity. When the gametes combine there is a 50% chance of XY or XX combination hence 50% chance of male or female. Preceding events can’t affect the chances of this so the OP is wrong.

Troutie did you get my email re. missing package?

I’ve bought a few of the extension cables from DX (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.32751) so if anyone would like one fire me an email. I’m guessing they will take a while to arrive though…

ultrafire 3000mAh protected cells on ebay. I’ve no idea about the brand, but i’d presume they aren’t really 3000mAh as i think they are cheap foreign stuff. Still I got 4 for 12 quid posted so cant complain 🙂

    Jammy111

so with 4×3.7 3000mAh batteries it will last a lifetime on full power, sweet 😀

cool, thanks (told you it had the potential to be a stupid question)

    Jammy111

so there is no difference in run times/brightness etc between using 3 or 4 18650s??

    Jammy111
    Free Member

next question 🙂 When sorting out my 18650 battery pack is there going to be any reason to connect 4 rather than just 3 cells. The run time should be the same, just the voltage should be higher, correct? 3 batteries will churn out 11.1V which should be enough, is there any reason to have 14.8V instead?

    Cheers,
    J

EDIT: apologies if this is a really stupid question, it has the potential to be…

i bought pedals of ian and the bearings are fine, they were nicely packaged in a million sandwich bags as well. Bit harsh posting a thread up after only a few days of trying to get in contact with him…

id say most people wear them now. you are definitely in the minority if you haven’t got one on. reasons for getting one:

    1) protection
    2) warmth (keep whole head (and ears) warmer than a hat)
    3) look better than hats

looks good flicker! where have you attached the driver in your build? Do you reckon it will be ok to attach the driver/ali combo to the plastic end plate with some silicone adhesive?

Also how have you weatherproofed the case? Silicone around the screws on the bottom i presume but what about the end caps in particular, that is pretty much the last thing i need to know then i should be good to get the soldering iron out!

brilliant cheers, i managed to steal a mates cable he has for his magicshine on the proviso that I get him a replacement, so its him that will be lumped with the wait 🙂

A further question (i promise the guide i write will be worth it) is it necessary to bond the new driver (BCL01D)/ali combo to an ali end plate? Will it be ok if it is glued to a plastic end cap?

If it does need an eli end plate anyone want to swap one for a plastic one?

cool ill give that a go then using the grommet that troutie supplies and the cable from DX. does anyone else want one ordering? Ill order on tuesday so if people add their names to a list ill get that sorted then shipped out to people (should be about £2 in total).

Next question is about how to wire battery holders together 🙂 Ive hacked one of BCT’s 18650 4 cell holders in half to create 2×2 cell holders that will fit together inside a water bottle; but i’ve not a clue about which terminal needs wiring to which. I’ve found this diagram on the net, but dont know which I want: http://www.electricfence-online.co.uk/shop/renewable-energy/renewable-energy-advice-faqs/battery-bank-wiring.html

so im thinking chop THIS cable in two bits, one end connects directly to the battery, the other to the light. Have the socket and plug connect about 20cm away from the light. Faesible? If so i’d just need a cable entry for the light housing as mentioned previously.

    Jammy111
    Free Member

yes between the plug and socket, i doubt i’d be unplugging it all that often so I think this would work.

Another option, would be to have a cable going directly into the light then some sort of connection from the battery to said cable. A bit like CK’s build on page 13, the only problem is I have no idea what i’m searching for on the internet. He calls it a cable entry, but this is fruitless on google etc. Any ideas?

    Jammy111

Actually scratch that idea, i’m guessing just squirting some silicone round the gap will do the trick. If water did manage to find a way in what damage would it do and to what?

cheers BCT, will look into a multimeter. Any recommendations on where i can get a decent weatherproof connector from? I had intially thought about having a short ~10cm stretch of cable coming out of the box and then having the connection from the battery there if that makes any sense?

    Jammy111

my bits from BCT arrived today and its time for some more questions.

Firstly how weatherproof is the power connection going to be? Will it need some extra stuff doing to it?:

Secondly, which of these 3 pins is which? I was expecting only two:

have u tried turning fiddling with the compression damping? if youve got the non-poploc version turn the blue knob on the top of the right leg about 30% of the way round to full lockout. this adds a bit of damping and should help with dive

EDIT: Have a read of this, http://www.bikerumor.com/2010/08/20/tech-article-how-rockshox-motion-control-works/ it really helped me to figure out how to set mine up properly

troutie did you get my email re purchasing the whole bar mount instead of just the top half? If thats going to be ok let me know how much extra I owe you.

bwooly, i dont think troutie does the hammond boxes, you have to get them from maplins: part number 1455C802 or 1455C802BK for the black one.

his kit is £20 but i’m not entirely sure what that includes, it is at least the LED’s and the optics (ill report when mine turns up)
The driver, switch and power cable from BCT is £9 but you can also order a 18650 battery holder for an additional 2.25 + 50p extra postage on top of the kit. (you may not want this if you are using a different pack)

For anyone interested in buying batteries the the ebay seller that TSB linked me to accepted an offer of £12 posted for 3x 18650 3000mAh 3.7V protected cells which seems like a bit of a bargain!!
