    excellent thanks again leg end.
just read someone else did the same with the air bumper. just means less cushy top out i guess?

achly i think i can see on the parts diagram that the neg spring fits onto the rebound damper. this is basically only a neagive on the sense of a top out bumper i assume?
the 2 dampers for coil and solo air are not the same so i wander how the spring fits with the damper parts? looks like some of the bits are a diferent shape to accomodate the spring…

thanks legend. this is sounding more interesting.
for the neg spring then, i can buy as if a spare part for a set of coil sektors and slot it in on damper side? i don’t mind reducing travel slightly. when i swapped to dual-flow rebound damper it elongated it ~6mm, and is slightly too high if anything.

another queston, seeing as knowledgable folk seem to be answering : )

i have a set of old pike 454s. is it possible i could swap their lowers onto the sektors? the motivation being they are old enough to have loads of clearance at the arch for a possible 26 plus tyre. they are 140mm travel tho

oh you can go air to coil?
    i was convinced you couldn’t.
i have fitted a rev rebound damper. it was you who suggested it to me i think in fact. did make a good difference and am still pondering fitting a better compression damper too tho doesn’t make as much diference apparently.

still doesn’t change the fact that i’d like a higher end fork, with bigger stantions.

so are there no other dual postion coil options?

and can a pike be converted to coil and retain dual position?

thanks northwind. it’s 2 things. i prefer the feel of coil forks. spring rate curve makes much more sense to me, and i wouldn’t mind going to slightly thicker stantions, having unfortunately ridden a couple of pairs of pikes in the summer.

i have read that i can’t convert between coil and air sektors or go from air to coil anyways. the uppers of one are missing the groove for the circlip that would be needed for the others i think. something like that. i can’t find where i read it anymore.

i wish there was somewhere difinitive we could go for answers to such specific questions, short of hassle loco or similar. maybe he should offer a questions answered service. £5 a pop.

otherwise i could just go for a set of DPC sektors and bung in the dual flow rebound damper from my current forks. would make for a pretty decent fork, but i just still might be lusting after something posher, just because…

    shorten your cranks?
worked well for me. i’m 5’8 or 9 with short legs and 175mm cranks were just too long. went to 170s and things got much better.
that combined with rolling the shit out of my muscles/ligaments around my knees after a ride. very painful but in a ggod way.
made a roller out of 80 or 100mm waste pipe wraped in old sleeping mat.

yep, was looking at them too. fit looks a bit snug?
how do they compare for not getting smelly? doesn’t have to be super warm so could work

can’t get better than birch ply as a material.
made loads of stuff out of birch and melamine.
as long as laminate is well-glued it’ll last forever.
don’t be cutting direct on the surface tho ey? : )

my previous laptop was a dell bought off ebay from a licensed re-furbisher.
bloody brilliant, lasted years. came with all install cds. good experience. no worries.

bought one for my mrs same way, different seller. not quite as good. a bti older stock i think. didn’t last as well.

either way it’s a fine way to buy in my experience.

in effect a new computer, though not necessarily latest model.

viewranger is what i use. download maps in advance on wifi.

reckon it’s not very accurate, even on most accurate setting.

what is endomondo. other i met using that but not checked it out.

maybe i’ll go for a regular cordless drywall gun for the moment.
will save me a bit of time and annoyance for sure.
not sure the 200 quid for a collated is worth it for the quantities i do.

thanks guys, i know the outlay’s worth it. i have a fair bit lined-up and probably always will. plus i’m trying to get completely tooled up before i eventually build my own house..

so the fact they’re mains ones is not annoying?

a gas charged closed damper, that means like a charger or a roughcut does it?

i knew coils were going to make a comeback.
apart from weight, i can’t see what’s desireable about and air spring curve over a coil one

that’s hard plastic they’re made of! which isn’t the same as strong right enough. but they look good to me.

teethgrinder, do you mean not the tube, but only the ‘bracket’ part that extends out to take the axle?

will100, i would too. speshly for a lower grade fork like a sector.
deffy worth a try i think.
got my eye on some cheapo 27.5 sektors…

    jamiesilo

yes, i figure you might not get full extension, due to spring or damper shaft topping out. i’m guessing that’d be the main issue, assuming stanchions are long enough to stay located in lower bushings.

reducing travel a little wouldn’t be a problem. would compensate for additional A-C, and since i upgraded the rebound damper, it’s added 5 or more mm travel.

mostly tire chat admittedly, but lots of active posters for queries

some 26+tyres on ebay, but its Minions i’m waiting for…

i don’t really need to deal with that aspect of the problem, i’m making it out to be worse than it is, but i am a joiner and it’d be good if it’s a toughy.

ok, doesn’t have to be all 4 of tough, recent, fast and cheap.
recent-ish, fast-ish would be a start compared to my previous one.

i’m thinking a Moto G/X/E would be fine, with a decent case.

what about bar mounts? any options out there?

well i couldn’t find one in the end so i jacked it up anyway.
that was the renault 4 tho, so it was easy.
Scudo tomoro. annoying as i don’t have proper jack for it…

white spirit is quite good for cleaning chains etc.
but of course you are diluting the stuff that’s there.
i sometimes clean in white spirit, then alchohol, or even acetone.

    it’s a Renault 4.
a new silencer is 50 euros; it’s getting ordered, but meantime it’s very noisy and does seem to possibly be affecting the running slightly, tho it could very well be timing/distributor/something of that sort.
the noise is annoying is the main thing so thought it might be worth a shot

bars are an option – may eventually go for spank vibrocores and even foam grips, but i like them the way they are, and the gloves did enough cushioning. i don’t wear a jersey, but a vest, so needs to be gloves.
i’ll check the BG gel gloves thanks.

yep, i’ll be sure to get dual positions from the off if i want them.
annoying too for those that decide it’s too much hassle and would rather swap to solo air. no go.

you definately can’t with Sektors/Revelations – what i’ve been researching for my sektors. it states clearly and repeatedly in the 2017 RS spares catalogue that dual air and DPA internals are not compatable with solo air CSU, and vice versa. bit annoyed cos i thought for i minute i could just do the swap and jobsagoodun…
