haha! that’s what i was expecting.
it’s podcast series by makers of this american life /serial.
thought somewhere like this would be full of that sort of folk.

guess i should head over to redit…

hmm. so 2.75 dirtwizards, and big old rabbit hole rims and they still fit in the foxes? blimey. good to know.
i’m a bit commited to rockshox at the moment, but food for thought. churs

gibbonarms, is that a standard old 26″ rocket?
and are they standard fox 34s or the + ones?

yep, i’ve been interested in 26+ too.
from what i’ve read and reckon, i19mm is too skinny, (unless of course you run tyres too hard to benefit from their size!)
i from around i29mm upwards. i35-40mm would be better

turns out it was the coil spring assembly rubbing at the end of the uppers; easy to see when i pulled lowers of.
weirdly the whole assembly was slightly bent. i bent it back a bit and re-installed. problem gone for now…

should i just bite the bullet and get some sort of mac?
i;m on my first one ever (an old macbook) and have to admit i’m impressed.
just that i’m now have a business to run in france, with (almost compulsory) software to run, and things like sketchup very hab=ndy to get into

sandwich, nicely put: if you fancy a technical challenge
i’ve tried a bit of linux mint. seemed great, certainly sped things up on an old pc. mail, browsing etc fine ( i use firefox and thunderbird already)
but yeh, i’m just a notch not geeky enough to be really up for it.
i do have better ways to spend my time, being self employed, riding my bike etc.

and yeh 3 years is not great lifespan, going by what spooky says

    thanks bear.
the gap was very well sealed meaningaround the fitting?

the chimney cavity around the flue pipe needs to have a specified amount of air flow seemingly, in france anyway, where i am.

have used it before and worked well, but ended up needing thinner latexy stuff for some tyre and rim combo, i think mainly to beads sealed tho.
didn’t water-down. made gremlins after a while but only sludgy ones, and quite a long whiel to be fair.

disconnect shock (letting out air first of course) remove back wheel, move linkage to feel for looseness and roughness/smoothness.

right, everyone’s obviously too busy riding bikes or not interested!
guess i’ll go and change the rebound damper again and see if that solves it

ok, just checked oil volume and it’s correct.

it actually sound like it might be the spring rubbing against the bottom of the uppers as they movew in and out (it does happen on both compresion and rebound) is that possible? seems liek it should be unlikely but..?

i know i know northwind!. yes did mean 34/35 too.
but i did also mean 2 position not u-turn, because yes 6 turns on the trail-side is not ideal for my riding

and i should’ve added, doesn’t weigh a ton. heavier is obviously to be expected, but i reckon they could get things lighter, given a new pike weighs about the same as a solo air sektor, despite being much beefier.

but otherwise yep, lyrics as you describe are great i’m sure.

    i want…
Dual position coil forks with a damper as good as the charger/roughcut ones apparently are and 24/25mm stanchions.
or at least with dual flow rebound damper. i’ve almost got there with converting Sektors to DPC and sticking in an upgraded rebound damper from revelations. shortened my travel a bit too much because of top-out bumper but made forks AMAZING.

    2 questions:
1.does the charger bit cover compression AND rebound dampers? only one of the 2? is it all one unit? what?

    b. what does ‘open bath’ refer too? just the spring side? ie nothing seperating inside of uppers from lowers?

    just to update this.
turns out in the end i got a couple of full rebound damper assemblies from on-one for £5 each, so gave me the proper spring top-out bumper and also spare damper s to play about with.
put one in with my good revelation (dual flow) rebound damper and it was all plush and lovely, but reduced my travel just a bit too much, as the whole damper was shorter, ie topped-out sooner.
so yesterday i bunged in the standard coil rebound damper assembly. got most of my travel back but htink it’s not going to be as nice a ride.

as i would’ve imagined having just converted my not very high end forks to coil. night and day already.
mind you CC is already night and day with other shocks from what i can tell.

    what frame is that poah?

    they look alrigth ey?

i just popped off bottom cover and gave it a clean up with wd40.
no need to waste cleaner by filling it from the top. and cabels didn’t need changing, as i said.
also easy to see what’s going on and to give it a better clean.
back to nice and clicky : )

no idea why i didn’t just go and look at it rather than twiddling my thumbs on the forum. probably cos i wanted to drink COFFEE and waste time…

bit of youtubing seems like it’s just gunked-up. original grease dries up, just need a clean and lube. good.

doesn’t sound like that. the lever moves fine and returns un-hindered. it’s the internal mechanism

for value have a look at pinnacle range at Evans (their own brand)
lithium i think is the one i’m thinking of.
mtb geo frame, steel forks, basically a rigid 29er set up for the road.
in searching for bikes for 2 or 3 different pals, have all ended up on a pinnacle and very happy

i was under the impression that the real ones with different geometry generally have shorter reach/top tube.
that could be a good thing depending on your preferance or body proportions i guess.
long legs and stumpy wee arms/torso? : )

definately gold sektor gold, preferably RLs yes, not silver
= moco dmaper, ally (?) stantions etc.
they’re the fork equiv of deores i’d say, whereas silvers are below that.

    jamiesilo

    it’s my main fork.
i would go for the coil over the air if i bought new ones.
about to convert my air to dual pos coil.
i’ve also upgraded the rebound damper to a dual flow one frome revelations.
that’s a handy thing about them, they are basically old revelations, so rev type rebound or compression dampers just pop staight in.
it’s not a pike, but perfectly decent fork if you’re not feeling too snobby, and just the same as a yari if i’m not mistaken, but with 32mm stanchions as opposed to 35(?) on yari

right, i’ve just found the ‘Stupid headset question’ thread, and so i feel inspired to give this a bump, see if anyone’s got any more enlightenment to share…

i’ve been on this forum for at least the 6 years this thread has, and this is the first time i’ve seen it.
i started reading the first page and actually laughed out loud.
    happy days

but i have a question, and this seems like the right place to ask: i was planning to buy a new headset, and i was just wandering…

old fox vanillas can be had for not much money, speshly if 9mmQR, and are quality.
have not felt an air fork as plush.
i have a set of 130mm vanilla 32s that can be dropped to 100mm.
    that’d be a good bet i’d say.

i think vibrocore come in 780, or 777 at least.
comfiest i’ve had out of not many are Gravity light (fsa) ones, carbon wrapped ali. had some straight carbon from carbon cycles, not comfy!

i guess i’ll get both folks in one place and have them apart.
looks like i might end up with a dual flow rebound, dual position coil 26 plus fork in the end, with possibility to upgrade compression damper in the longer term too. and without forking out for a posher fork after all.
    happy days. i like a project…

    what i suspected thanks.
and any idea about length? lowers from a 140 fork, 150mm uppers.

    jamiesilo
    Free Member

thanks highland man, but it’s only the lowers i want to change. the circlip groove would be at the bottom of the spring side on the uppers no?

could i maybe swap them then?
