    thanks maximus.
love what a slow burner this is. and how totally overengineered it sounds, tho not in a position to pretend i can do the ‘math’
doesn’t sound like it’ll break tho, or you’ll have trouble stopping

what about the rest of the bike?

i know all the sizes, but some are only on paper (or measured by my dad…)
and not wanting to change stem or headset, and obviously don’t have spacers to remove, otherwise i wouldn’t be considering it!

so what type of failure would you expect or have you seen? stem popping off steerer? or more likely deforming/damaging it?
cracked steerer thread i read this morning looked nasty

hmm, thanks folks. that looks like a bit less than 9mm weeksy?
and above the top bolt too?

not sure i’ll get above the top bolt, and don’t have all the stuff in one place so can’t check. guess i’ll just have to get it all together and have a look

    Nother question coastkid : )
i was considering them twinrails 29er tyres.
how are they in dry-ish clog-up-tyres type mud?
they look like they’ll just fill up

    scuse the hi-jack!

i recommend army goretex bootliners over seal-skinz any day

sealskins (or the old ones anyway) don’t breath = sweaty and cold for me, so no different. i’ve had gore-tex boot liners on in leaking wellies sumergerd in cold water, and still toasty warm feet inside!

    like these:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-PAIR-MILITARY-GORE-TEX-WATERPROOF-BOOT-LINERS-/170432333938?pt=UK_Men_s_Shoes&var=&hash=item27ae8f0872
i’m on my second pair of the short ones, but i reckon the long ones would be excellant

    hmm, pivot m4x looks nice.
i gues you could just put up with the extra weight of a bike like that and soon wouldn’t notice

    i’m with you fd3chris!
i’ve been boring my friends about this frame which ought to exist and perhaps doesn’t, for ages.
100mm out back. up to 150ish on the front, not necessarily as solid or heavy as a fully slopestyle bike, and still capable of climbing if you put the seat right up. right?
other contenders. maybe a yeti 4x? or i’m curious about the nukeproof rook, and a cove hooker was the other one.
pricey options tho. everytime i’ve mentioned on here someone’s suggested a blur 4x. worth a shot by the sounds of it

    aye?
mud not too much of a prob as don’t live in UK : )
how is it on tarmac? read that it’s not too bad if not too low pressure?

that sound hopeful then, thanks steved
    i’ll get em cleaned.
not that i really understand shock internals but it feels intuitively wrong that it would be anything form the inside.

    thanks fellas.

on the right hand top side they don’t have blue lever(s) ( or not anymore perhaps) but they have a small nob with gate written on it. is this the threshold knob?
then a hex sided thing which’ll turn. is this compression damping going to total lockout? as on newer sectors?
decals are all gone so no pressure guides either as a starting point. .

lastly, does it matter which way up the up fork is when pumping -ve valve? did it ‘right way’ up last night and got lots of oil out.
    thanks again

aye powder coating, but otherwise if you want to do it yourself, RUSTOLEUM combicolour spray can. self-undercoating, leveling and rust curing i think.

i’m about to do one with a good quality car spray. couldn’t get the colour i wanted in rustoleum. but i wish i’d got it power-coated tbh : )

    thanks ernie.
that’s what i reckoned. i gave up with the wood fairly quickly.
i’d normally glue it anyway but wanting to minimise the amount so later removal is less messy as it’s in my own place

thanks for that info maccruiskeen. i was automatically tending towards having lith-ion

so what about the nailing through metal stud business.
i put bits of wood in in some places to nail into through the stud.

chunk, i won’t use it all that much. just in intense bursts probably, not daily anyways. but i don’t mind a bi tof outlay for something i will use for a good while in all

hmmm that’s quite large keef. like the look of that.
got an accurate-ish idea of width?
maybe it’s best to get the rim nice and wide first?

cheers tazzy. seen your posts on them. great if i was in uk and using only for single track but where i am it’s dry 90% of the time and i will be riding some road and fire road on them too, so after something a bit less gnarrly.
heavy beasts as well. look like when you need them tho!

was considering old steel road bike but i guess rigid mtbs with road-ish tyres will be better then.
