dunno if it’s what you are after, but I’ve just seen the Smart R1 is now only £11 on CRC, which is a steal

The ebay copies aren’t worth it.

I’ve got a Skully when they were about a fiver and free postage from on=one which are very bright for a pocket light. The ones on there at the minute aren’t the original ones

However, these are bright too, but it’s now £2.50 postage

Oven Pride (careful, it is nasty stuff), then polish with Peek.

Seriously, it’s a piece of p1ss to do. I’ve been restoring a few old bmxs (eg raleigh burner from 1983) that, as you can imagine, can be pretty caked with grime and rust.

See these threads (below) about de-annoing and de-rusting.

Before, after the oven pride treatment, after polishing:

porridge, for the first time in years, after some folk on here mentioning it. Christ it is grim, even with a splash of honey and sultanas. Not again. I’m going back to my bread

    Cheers Jamiep,

Last time out, she rode a 158 Rome anthem on piste/hardpack and really liked it. Then spent 6 days splitting in pow on an old Voile split Decision Freeride 159.

It’s rockered, so it should be more manouevreable. If it rides like a playful 158, we should be grand. My concern with the 156, is if you take the pointy ends off that, you end up with a 152, which only 2cms longer than the 152 she’s already decided is too short… but if the rocker gives more float for the length… etc!

I’m 5’8″ 63kg. My boards are getting smaller. Used to ride 156, then 152. I was away a fortnight ago, riding powder the whole time on a 148 rocker freestyle board. No issues with sinking. In fact, lots of fun all the way.

Have a look at the nose shape. Some rocker shapes are a bit square (kinda the end squared off) rather than the traditional rounded shaped – means that they ride like they are about 4-6cm longer than they are (if you get what I mean).

how tall and ahem heavy is she? What size does she usually ride on/off piste? 160 is long for most ladies even if it is a powder board

    EDIT:
here says watch out for the construction if you are splitting it

My footy mate, Antony, runs Tiler Training. He mostly does the internal fitters but he or one of his colleagues might be available if you cant find someone. I’ve not user him myself but some of my footy pals have and were happy.

Pentland Powdercoaters. Behind Ikea. Make sure that you tell them exactly how you want things masking as they are a bit slapdash, but it is only £30.

I havent tried loads but am happy with the speed of Schwalbe City Jet, although they dont like wet ironwork. About 750g for 1.95 with puncture protection. I like that one can put 65psi into them

I did it a few weeks ago and it was accepted.

It’s an utter faff as it needs to be EXACTLY the right size, eyes and head in right place, etc, etc, etc, etc. There are guides on tinterweb.

Worth the faff as it enabled me to choose the photo that made me least resemble an utter kn0b/convict, which I’d had to live with the previous 10 years.

3G is only really useful if you intend to download books away from home.

I disagree with above and agree with below

use it, not just for downloading books, for browsing on here, checking email etc

Handy when you go away with work and forget your phone charger

If you arent gonna do browsing on hols or away from your smartphone then I’d just get the new non-keyboard one

Might have to give Serre Che a try. Went there for a day from Montgenevre and snow was so poor it put me off from going back but looking at that

Woody, are you in Montgenevre at the moment? I was wondering what the snow was like as I’m there in 10 days

I think the Snow-forecast website is typically unreliable. Overly optimistic further ahead; forecasts of snow which gradually reduce as the time gets closer

I was originally under the impression that they were essentially the same / very similar but the Xen was slightly upgraded. However, I tried on both and couldn’t get on with the Hex at all. Ended up with the Xen. Like mentioned above, I like the lower, around the head fit

Edit: the Xen has few holes and they are oddly spaced – difficult, but not impossible, to zip tie a light to it at a suitable angle

I have a tiny media centre PC perminantly connected to my TV, with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

My laptop and netbook rarely get opened any more – ad hoc browsing is typically done on my phone when the TV is being watched.

I don’t have kids though so there is no TV/computer battle. If so, a laptop would be fine. I’ve never owned a desktop or felt I needed to

Around Haymarket will be fine on the bus coming into town from the airport. If you get off there you will only have to walk 10-15 mins to somewhere around Waverley anyway. Sit tight til after haymarket

With the tram works, the bus won’t go down Princes St but the parallel George St. Get off anywhere on G St or at its end: St Andrew’s Sq, which is just round the corner from Waverley

EDIT: go up the Walter Scott monument for great views of the city. Only £3

I’ve been boarding for about 12 years and to be honest can’t definitely say that I find X binding better than Y, and am happy with whatever so long as they aren’t Flow or similar (which I actually find more faff than straps and not at all easy in).

I choose based on how I like the straps/ratchets. Had Burton Cartels for a while, which I am very happy with….maybe the sign of a good binding is that you don’t really notice it(?)

Freestyle should be fine to be honest, if you’re willing to stretch to a little extra I’d go with Cartel though.

Cartel isn’t a ‘little extra’ but a lot extra. Custom and Mission are next up from the Freestyle

I’d take it to the shop to remove. I’ve hacked one off before (from an online purchase so returning is harder) and it was a struggle to remove and had plenty of potential for causing damage in the process
