    Nah don’t believe.

A lot of it is to do with how your eyes deal or rather don’t deal with low light.

They digitally mapped the Edinburgh dungeons in 3D and then got people to wander round it virtually wearing a 3D headset.

The virtual visitors experienced similar sensation in the same places as the real visitors.

They were basically being tricked by the geometry of certain parts of the room into thinking something was there that wasn’t

I can vouch for this. It was my pals/colleagues at Edinburgh and Glasgow Unis that did this. Interesting stuff

Looking at this Deore – nice and cheap, anyone know if it weights *that* much more than going SLX for 15 quid or so more?

Slx cassette is only £35 at on-one

Mary Kings Close (takes one hour) is on the Royal Mile. Have a wonder up the mile on your way to the castle.

Nip in and out of some of the closes that spur off the Mile in order to get a flavour of the current streets in preparation before going to MKC.

Stop at MKC and then at the Camera Obscura a bit further up near the Castle. Maybe try to hit the castle when the 1 o’clock gun goes off (not on Sundays)

A (free) walk up Carlton Hill to take in the views?

There was a link on here from a bloke who cleaned up a shocking bmx using tinfoil and Coke.

I did. I can dig out my link… Once I’ve finished with baking cookies (true story)

As a child, about 8yo, I had one or two injections a week (to build up a tolerance) for over a year. My brother same. Didn’t work

These are EXCELLENT. Both open and close links whereas others (including the KMC one on CRC) tend to do one only, and they are cheap. Opened/closed a ‘single use’ link multiple times. Wish I’d bought them earlier rather than struggle and skin my knuckles.

    ultra-easy malt loaf recipe:

cup and 1/4 all bran or bran flakes
    cup milk
    cup sultanas
    1/2 cup sugar
mix and leave to rot for 30 mins
    add cup SR flour
bake on a loaf tin for 45mins at 180

I was around those areas (for the first ever time!) Sunday and it was all dry and dusty. There’s been spots of rain since then but it will all be dry

I have also hacked a bottle cage to be something like a cheapo monkii. Since then, I have added a thin 10cm long piece of metal sheet to the bottom for additional support

Arrrrrrrrrgh. I dont think I can resist this, particularly as it is my birthday this weekend.

The only question is SS Inbred for £100 or Scandal for £150

@jamie – I’ve read good things about the Schwalbe City Jets, it was them that I had in mind when I went to my local shop before he tried flogging me something more expensive!

I run them on my rigid single speed commuter (with plenty of air in). Very happy with them and will be buying them again, which will be ages as they still look new. Not had a puncture on them yet over 6 months in

Schwalbe City Jet would be perfect for road and canal path riding. The 1.95 size can be got for less than £15 each eg £24 for a pair here

Google “secondary locks lfgss” which is the little sister of the “lfgss locks that work” thread.

From there I’ve just bought Onguard brute mini for less than £15. Small light but feels fairly substantial for nipping to the shop.

Edit: I also have a heavy bad boy from their locks that work list for when required

Have a walk around, go up the clock tower,go on the canal trip, sip some nice beers. Cant recall the boozers I’ve been in cos I spent the weekend in a satisfying slightly drunk haze from continually savouring quality strong biers

    Brilliant. Drive side is fine.

Thank you for everyone’s help – this weekend I will now have the pleasure of building a new 1*10 long travel HT and a rigid SS when I swap some donor parts :P

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Realise I left out important details:

It is 68mm, which is correct.

Old, square-tapper crank, which never originally had spacers on the first bike.

I don’t have any spacers – where would one buy them (if they are required?)?

this style (although not this model):

The web says they can sometimes be very difficult at agreeing to match Amazon, but stick to your guns. I’ve matched non Amazon places with them, and accordingly got some great deals

Is there a secret hotel up there I might not yet have come across that anyone knows about?

VERY doubtful. My family visit me here every year as my brother does the marathon – free places are in very short supply.

Glasgow is only 45mins away on the train (?)

If it was me, I’d go back and save a bit of heritage, but I like old bmxs. I am currently doing up a Falcon Prostyler.

At the time it was more of a ‘supermarket’ bmx. Would be worth about £100 if it was in good nick, but it isn’t. You might get about £50 for it in that state.

The large Asda have a pack of small median and large for £5. Thin, roll-top. Not at home so I can’t check but I think they are around 5ltr 8ltr and 11-13ltr.

These are the same as the Karrimore ones but three for around the price of one

wait for confirmation that you have something to move on to, and then send a simple, polite letter/email specifying your notice and what will be your final day (ie in writting)

I’m not inpressed either. Much of it sounds like a movie soundtrack album. The slightly better songs sound like bad Scissor Sisters. Get lucky is by far the stand-out

Cola is good for removing rust (as is vinegar) but doesn’t really penetrate grease. White spirit is better for that
