Yes, it is much more than just how to manage the micro waves. It is about how to manage that, but also how to manage the pent up Urgent and Urgent Suspicion of Cancer demand that stayed away for weeks or even two months (and are now higher risk), and within the context of infection control and limited capacity. And then how to manage the non-Urgent elective patients who were on the waiting list previously and their longer waiting times will start to become a factor in their outcome.

‘Quiet’ EDs play little into this.

RondeCC. Meets at Gamma in Stockbridge Sat leave between 9-9:30; five different rides/speeds.
I used to be the Ride Captain, ride in the 19mph+ ish group.
Little MTB, some CX, some crits, a little ITT, etc. There’s more serious racing and more ITT at ERC, some fast folk

(Current lack of) pressure on EDs isn’t really the issue and shouldn’t be used as an indicator of whether it’s ok to risk putting more load onto the system.

The issue is the pressure and flow downstream from ED: do you have to go into a bed or a critical care bed. Bed capacity is limited given that capacity and appropriate levels of surge capacity must be allocated to Red covid wards

Edit: this is a reply to the comment that Aberdeen RI ED is quiet

Two of my three are from Komandirskie.com, one from eBay from Russia, but Meranom is fine too use too. Russian postage takes at least a month whichever seller one buys from.

Ive both a 2 season and a 3 season sleeping bag from PHD. Spendy but they are far the best two bits of kit I own. So small and light for their warmth
    would buy again. 5 stars

James shelved the idea this year of a no fly rule, before shelving the event entirely this year.

Duncan, I am waiting for your Spanish event to happen again. I REALLY enjoyed joining your ride the other year

I made a mistake – day one wasnt the Refugio Assietta (which is at the top of the Assietta). There is another refugio before that, at the bottom of the Finestra descent / before starting the Assietta climb. That was a 83 mile day for me – much more manageable, ideally placed far a long but not massive day’s riding.

Use that refugio and then decide on the day each day what you’ll do for sleeping that night

Same as Duncan’s 2018 trip above, the first day is a key one. In 2019, snow was forecast on the tops for day two. I, like a number of others, pushed on to do both the Colombardo and Finestre climbs, and then stayed at the Refugio Assietta at the bottom of the Finestra descent. I was one of the first there and it was mobbed that night.

That is a long day if you aren’t fast but worth doing both climbs in a oner as it then nicely sets up the schedule for the rest of the week.

Day two, it was snowing on the Assietta. I was cold. For the six day trip, I packed the same as I do on a two day one. Actually, I pack less – I don’t pack cooking kit and just use shops.

Mat, bivi, sleeping bag (a good PHD one that is warm but tiny), sleeping clothes, arm/leg warmers, insulated gilet, waterproof jacket, one change of jersey/socks/shorts. Next time I will also take a light weight puffa – that was why I was cold, and the descents are cold too. That is all I needed.

The rest of the time I bivied out. James has designed the route so that (apart from the first day) the schedule is roughly one climb in the morning each day and then a descent and then a think about where to sleep.

But I did really struggle on two days for food:
    1. I did one of the Rough Stuff route options and was out of the way of shops all day (and into the next day) without starting the day with a full bag of supplies.
    2. Hitting civilisation when the whole town was closed for siesta for 4 hours over lunchtime(!). Just bad luck.

I first posted here asking about Q Timex, decided it was overpriced, bought a Vostok just for something unusual/fun. I actually got an Amphibian and a Komandirskie, both what I thought were the architypal designs. Changed bezel and straps on both. Still don’t know what to do with the Kom strap vostok

Inexpensive watch collection update if anyone is vaguely interested. As you can see, I don’t love watches enough to spend big money:
    – Parnis Daytona
    – Parnis GMT – this is new but Ive not worn it yet – I find the head too large for the jubilee strap
    – Loreo Yachtona
    – Loreo Diver
    – Casio F91W on a nato
    – Casio erm gold dress F91W
    – Casio Royale
    – Casio murdered out World Time
    – Two Skmei Casio homages
    watch1

These Vostoks currently get all of my wrist time:
    – Shark mesh strap I had before. Teal bezel is new. I have a teal Scuba Dude on the way that this bezel was for but I love it on the black face so I’ll need a rethink when the other on arrives – I have ordered a black bezel and a blue one too.
    – Sticking with the black coin edge bezel. After trying a few straps, I am going with the RAF vs Uboat Komandirski.
    – A new Komandirski arrived. Swapped bezel and strap for a Q Timex homage (the watch that started all of this)

Jamie p I notice the parnis Daytona in your pic – how do you find it?

To me, it’s an elegant design that can be worn
dressy or sporty. No complaints with the build quality. Nice brushing. Screwed links. Crystal glass. Bezel and dial looks good. Don’t like the clasp although it has a divers’/sweaty arm bracelet extension. Small dials hard to see in light. Pleasing chrono button press click and chrono hand snap back. No date window, bah. Keeps perfect time (battery, not manual/automatic). Really good value for the £50-5-ish cost.

Well, this evening I also bought a Parnis GMT Batman on jubilee bracelet to go with it
…A day remaining on the current AliExpress sale and a few quid off further with coupons: £54, I think

I’ve SLX cassette on CX and gravel bikes, both with Rival, fine. 11-40T though, and mechanical. And 105 or Ultegra 11-28T with Rival on road bike, fine

The Seiko is much better and nicer but it is too big for me. I still think the Timex is overpriced. So I’ve just ordered a Vostok Amphibian Scuba Dude for £50 for a laugh and a bit of 1970’s-esk uglyness

Dear watch experts, does anyone have views/own the
q timex reissue? I appreciate that this is more budget than most discussed here.

I know nothing about anything but what I can gather it is probably overpriced / underspeced. However, it just speaks to me, which I guess is a good reason to own one.

The only other I know of that is budget and is broadly similar-ish is a
Seiko SKX009K2 but 42mm is probably too big for my 40mm max child-sized wrist

Or maybe I should get a Vostok Amphibia and tinker with that for fun. Maybe that is a separate question.

The trouble with a homage is you’ll wish it was the real thing every time you look at it.

I’ve little interest in spending on watches- I’d typically wear a Casio F-91W but started a new job and wanted something more professional-looking for a 45yo.

Then I stumbled on Just One More Watch.
I spent £42-47 in the Ali sale on
    Loreo Submariner, black with red highlight;
    Loreo Daytona, pale blue;
    Parnis Daytona, white.

All are lovely for the money and I enjoy looking at the time, no quality issues (well, the Parnis bracelet buckle is a poor design). And I never look at them wishing I’d spent £1,000s on a Rolex, which would be utterly beautiful but I simply wouldn’t get the utility/vaue from it (even if it were a tenth of the price)

and there’s also lot’s easier hills than Rigg! Tour of East Lothian is an odd recommendation for a first timer – fairly hilly, lacking in bail-out points, challenging time of year for the terrain – particularly when PoP was initially mentioned by the OP

There’s a number of more suitable audaxs between 100, 160 and 200km a month later and onwards

You’re not doing racing in the same mud and grass conditions as me then.

I too had an awful race a few week’s ago on my XLS, 33mm Michelin Power Mud. In the final 4-ish laps I was having to stop 3-4 times a lap to de-clog the BB/chain stay area.

So I am looking for a new frame too. Space Chicken has a very different geo to the XLS, and isn’t for me.

BC also provide this insurance to non club members, but it is limited to those individuals specifically being invited by the club on rides with a view of him/her trying it out before joining

BC’s club insurance covers the club’s officials/representatives acting on behalf of the club. It is nothing to do with club members, including members who get run over while cycling on a club ride or not on a club ride

I had Di2 go into crash mode recently when ‘just riding along’, setting off from lights. I thought it was a loose wire; I didn’t then know but it can be reset by pedalling and changing fully up and fully down the shifter

I was told I needed an app last week after presenting my BC card. This turned out to be that I actually needed to download the voucher from BC’s website. I think Halfords staff are being wrongly trained know that one doesn’t simply show one’s card anymore; I don’t know of any app.

potentially silly question: why would one be running 40 or 50 psi on a CX bike? I’m racing tomorrow and have set the 33mm tubed tyres up at 18psi (due to the rain coming tonight). I was planning to go tubeless so I could go lower
