A bloke passed me on my commute yesterday, about 500m from my door. I thought bugger that, I’ll nick a nice toe home but going over a drain cover he heard my panniers rattle, stepped on the gas and dropped me 😆 I must admit to feeling a little guilty 😳

I refer the honourable gentleman to the above aforementioned maternity-leave and small baby issue

I’d send the baby back, you want one like ours- 12hrs sleep a night (after the first month that is!) 😉

Binners, if you want to go on Thursday it’s a lot more reasonable £77.30. A bit of forward planning is all that’s needed…

Edit: Opps, that’s off peak leaving after 9.00 😳

Little One (14 months) likes this:

TBH she hasn’t show a preference to any particular book, the ‘That’s not my…’ series are good with the different textures.

When I first got the road bike I was feeling tired / heavy legged all week but have started to have breakfast (small bowl of granola / OJ) before leaving in the morning then a big chunk of cake for elevenses and I’m much the better for it.

I’m commuting nearly 60 miles a week and have been getting a road ride (45-60 miles) in at the weekend since getting a road bike before Easter. I also tow the little one to nursery on Thursday and Friday (about a mile and leave the trailer outside the nursery) and ease off on Friday if I’m going out on the Saturday. The little one has just about put pay to going off and riding any off road for the time being.

The Monday morning commute can be a bit slow after a decent Sunday ride!

Looks good value to me for someone wanting to start proper brewing, I spent about £120 building my own plastic 25l kit!

Another vote for Post Office, order online and pick them up at a branch that’s convenient.

EDIT, of course they may well have them in branch, last time we had to order Swiss Francs.

We paid £19 a night for the first week of the school hols in Devon; we normally camp at sites charging £3-7 a night but with a 14 month old we decided a little more comfort was required! And to be fair the extra facilities (a freezer and family bathroom etc.) and ‘niceness’ was probably just about worth it. Charging those prices still didn’t deter a family load of oiks coming down from Brizzle for the weekend though 😕

Looking at campsites in Europe you appear to get far much more for your money.

People complain about packed trains and sky high prices. Its precisely the fact the trains are packed, thus demonstrating high demand, that the train operating companies can charge such high prices. Supply and demand, init? Another example of the glorious capitalist society in which we find ourselves!

I approached a company directly after seeing a job on a recruitment website and was told to go through the agency, even though it was also on their website.

More users use the website, those using Garmins etc. I tend to just upload the route from the phone and look at the ride on a decent screen back at home.

Well, that’s a bit pants! You’d have thought the website would be more feature rich than the app.

Get a decent pump that attaches to the frame and then just get a small seat pack

The saddlebag is bad enough on the bike, a pump is just a step too far 😀

I can’t understand people going to the cinema in the summer. OK, maybe if it’s 35°C outside 90 minutes in a dark, air-con’d room would be nice, but apart from that 😐

We did it at a local church with 20 Explorer Scouts earlier in the year, the whole village must have loved the oh so tuneful ringing going on that night! The church in question had some form of noise dampening in the bell tower, not much use tho as far as I could tell.

I saw a load of riders, some being naughty and riding 4 abreast, heading to / from a checkpoint in town on the first day. Then I was talking to a Swiss sounding guy on Thursday outside the LBS who had destroyed 3 tubs on our ‘very bad roads’.

I’d love to give give it ago next time round, but I don’t think I’d go straight on to Istanbul like a nutter doing the Transcontinental!

Nope, bell free on the hardtail, commuter SS and road bike. Had an old bint jump out of her skin when I shouted a friendly ”scuse me’ a while ago along a track on the road bike- a bell may have it’s uses sometimes!

EDIT: Oh, my Hope hubs on the hardtial do the job most of the time!

+2 for Wheery or any other two can kit. Be warned though, in no time you’ll be doing in properly- mashing grains, sparging and boiling wort with hops!!! Even if your first batch tastes like shite, give it another go, it gets better every time.

In a mountain hut in Switzerland; One of our number was a bit of an annoying numpty and hadn’t done any climbing for a few years but brought all the kit and books for the trip, one of those all the gear and no idea types.

Anyways after a couple of eye-wateringly expensive beers and grub we start talking about what we were going to do the next day and bringing Numpty Bloke up to speed.

Looking around the table and spying energy and cereal bars, I made up a couple of names of knots, namely that well know a Torq break knot and the Corny hitch, which he duly remembered from climbing 10 years ago but couldn’t quite remember how to tie them. When he popped out for a piss we quickly got a length of accessory cord out and cobbled together a couple of passable looking fake knots to show him- “yep” he said “I remember now”!

I got a pair a few weeks ago, comfortable enough but do look and feel a bit cheapish compared to my Endura mountain shorts. I’d go for the race version next time, or like crashtestmonkey, get some discounted top brand stuff.

Neither of us were bothered either way so didn’t find out and painted the nursery yellow… Out pops a girl and wifey say’s she wanted a girl all along 😐 🙄 .

Edit, handily enough we had decided on a girls name but weren’t sure on a boys name!

    How about “diesel engine”?

As per dknwhy, I certainly couldn’t describe blokes riding bikes for 5 hours a day everyday for 3 weeks and not repeat the odd phrase! But the pair of them do tend to trot out the same ones far too often!

Somewhere we’re missing telling people new to the road that as well as them in their ton of metal, there are also lots of other people, some of whom are more vulnerable and should be treated accordingly.

I was out on the road bike a few weeks ago and a learner driver in a driving school car squeezed past on a narrow bridge- unluckily the lights were against me and I was unable to add my little input into her lesson at the lights.

It really does need to be tackled at the earliest stage in a driver’s education, its a real problem. With more taking to two wheels those in power should really start to take it seriously.

    Cheers,
    Jamie
