As per northwind every pair of more expensive riding glasses I’ve owned get lost, broken and scratched.
The coating on my bolle spiders is so good that after a year they still don’t fog up and are still pretty scratch free.
    Pretty good for £8

Good spot Mark they also have all 3 types in all colours and all sizes in stock (this sounds to good to be right).
So may order all 3 to try

Peaks grit is eating my altura 3/4″ first pair lasted a couple of months second pair (warrenty) are 3 rides in and I’m betting they last another 2 rides max.
Any one noticed the bum lasting longer on a seat with no raised stiching?
Currenty use a spoon but thinking of Chainging to a fabric scoot one

Bit of tangent but related, how the flip do you get it off again, chain whip and spline tool till blue in the face and it would not shift, I’m assuming I’m doing something daft?

I’ve being trying the trailstar in the peaks and I’m pretty impressed on wet rock
This on the front and a nic on the back has broke appears presently to be working very well and it may of well broke my 10 year alliance with maxxis

Keep in mind that the rain looks like it’s going to be pretty bad and even more so the wind will be around 50mph gusts on Sunday.

3 Wet weeks in the peaks plus one very very wet snowdon ride, been washing bike as well.
Still on and chain is still clean with zero rusting.

    It’s seriously good stuff.

Like the look of the mavic h20 also but suspect they are a water proof boot rather than a full on winter shoe.
Lookning at the NW Celsius 2 and shimano mw7 (if they come down in price) to replace my spesh defroster which are water proof but are not warm enough for me

Flat(ish) or you can cut the sole for a perfect fit around the pedal, keep the weather out, don’t take 4 days to dry out

Otherwise pop down sports direct and get a decent pair of waterproof gortex / event walking shoes / boots.

My cheapo karimor event boots coped with the worst of the snow last year in the peaks far better than any mtb shoe I’ve ever had.

My New altura attacks lasted 3 months last winter before the bum wore though, altura did replace them though, will wait and see if the replacements do the same again.

To note my original pair pair lasted 5 years, so maybe the quality isn’t as good as it used to be.

Fr0sty it was pretty scary going down the ranger not feeling the brakes at times for sure.

I have some socks from these guys and they are brilliant, they are designed for sailing in sub zero temps.

They also do a liner and a hot hands (I have the hot feet) which is a silver lined sock / glove which radiates the heat back.

I’ve heard very good things about the pearl izumi ones mention but they are crazy expensive
The Scott ones look like my enduro dexter windproof ones which I like a lot down to say 8 or 5 with some liners but only when it’s dry, they are hopeless when slightly damp.

I’ve been using neoprene sailing socks from rooster last year with some success so May try some of there gloves this year

Two of us found the limits of the aldi gloves today on snowdon.
They are warm until it’s a bit windy, then both my hands went completely numb as they were so cold.
    My mates turned into sponges.

Gonna try something else this winter me thinks

Shorty / DHR2 sounds like a perfect peaks winter combo, going to try that this year Also

Frosty Rocky descents mainly, but as I live on the edge of the peaks that’s 90% of my type of riding, small drops also.
I put two spacers in yesterday and not a lot of difference to be honest may try another two.

    jameswilliams54

Yep my 70 was rubbish also

Frosty have you needed to put any volume spacers in the shock, mine is very linear and blows though 100% travel at 30% sag

I’ve demo’d both and ended up with a scout.
As PO mentions most likely the patrol is closer to the spitfire
I ride in the peaks and coming from a blur thought a 150+ bike was what I wanted (needed) but the 140 / 125mm of the scout is perfect (with some volume spacers in the shock)
It’s climbs far better than the blur even though it’s a 1lb and a half heavier.
It’s a super fun bike and when I sat down and thought about it before buying that is what I really decided I wanted.
Demo them both then but what puts the biggest smile on your face.

We should give a big up to Rich of peak photos for the stanage ghost rider pics, eh pook?

I remember the switch back at the top making me crap my pants first time doing that shoot, but as per all night riding if you can nail it at night it comes mundane in the light.

Jesus Paul, Sorry to hear that, hope you make a full recovery soon.
I tend to solo night ride on occasions not by choice usually due to everyone one else being buisy.
But I always tell the other half were I’m going, what time I will be back and she can always track me on buddy beacon if needed

Ha, oh how things change so quickly (or not) eh.
Thought you sold the road bike so what are you riding on the road ??

+1 for the bolle but spend a little bit more and ensure you get a lens with both the anti fog (this works better than glasses I’ve spent ×10 on) and also the anti scratch coating which also works a treat when scrapping off the peaks gritty muck with gloves covered in muck

Park at fairholmes and do the “tourist” loop around the reservoir, no pub but there is a take away cafe.
Join the tissington, pennine or trans pennine Bridleway and ride as long as you want, you would definitely be able to plan a pub stop on the way.

Sounds like you you looking for something from the rab vapourise range like this

It’s a very popular path (with families also) and gets very busy at peak times.
Legally you shouldn’t, but if your going to (cut out a big road section from stanage to fox house) anyhow ensure it’s at considerate times.

Ok so I’ve now tested size on a med patrol which has the same geo as the scout.
And it felt almost identical to my blur.
Considering the bike had a 60mm stem (so I could shorten it anyjow if really needed)
I’m 100% (sorry helpful) that the small would be to short for me.

Glad I had oppertunity to test though, numbers don’t always show you the way.

Many thanks to the guys at tamed earth bikes for their help, really nice shop with very knowledgeable staff.

Helpfuls downtube length on the blur is 25.5″ so if that’s anything to go by small looks better.

Anyone on a small frame out there?

    jameswilliams54

Looks like a small scout has the same reach (16″) as a large blur.
So the reach is an inch longer but the ETT is over half an inch smaller.
Med scouts reach is 2″ longer than the blur and a slightly longer ETT so may be to big??

Struggling to find a built up small bike to try anywhere (as per normal).

Mines two years old now, gets lot punishment in the peak district, never bleed or cleaned it really.
Sayning that I know lots of people that have had issues but as you mention sram have been very good in most cases they have sent a new one out
