    LG G series +1
Screen could be a bit brighter in daylight but otherwise a fantastic phone with a great two lens camera and some clever features

I’m looking at the above plus the Dawes academy 20 mtb and the orbea mx team (disc or non disc).
But as there are lots of good condition 2nd hand beinn’s to be had for around £220 will most likely stick with Isla for now

After asking recently on here I just bought a pair of MT5’s for the same price as SLX from a shop in the NL’s called mantel.

I had to get my lbs to bleed them after shorting the cables myself, its worth noting they are extremely sensitive to bleeding and I can understand people’s comments on not feeling right after, you really do need to get it right.

Anyhow they are designed for two finger braking so the levers are huge and very different to shimano
But I’ve managed to set mine up fine as single finger.

After 6 rides in the biggest thing I notice is how I’ve stopped skidding all over the place as the modulation is miles better.
This also results in less brake drag and pressure on the levers and hence less cramp on longer descents

Planning on upgrading to the smaller single finger HC levers in the summer as I think with these they will be perfect for me.

Overall for the same price as the slx its a no brainer to choose the mt5 (providing they continue to work as well of course)

    Hi swiss
My lads 5 and he currently fits Fox youth small size

    fox ranger youth

Stiff have this one in size which my lad has also.

You can also get brightly coloured base layers from go outdoors and decathlon in that age range to save a bit of money

Rick not answering your question but just bought a 3C shorty and DHR II from CRC as they have a maxxis sale on and an extra 10% with maxmar10
    DHR II was £28

I took the chance and have ordered the MT5’s based on the amount of stopping power with modulation for the price (as noted above) they look great.
They also use mineral oil and the bleed is the same simple procedure as shimano.

I’m a bit dubious on the lever but if I get on with them there is always the option to upgrade to the HC type.

Will report back in a couple of weeks

    Cheers for all the replies.
Overall it looks like everyone has had both good and bad experiences with most brands and it may just come down to a bit of pot luck with reliability and personnel preference on feel.

Thanks for the mt5 link, the lever design does put me off as I use single finger braking and ive got ickle fingers

The MT5’s are starting to look interesting after reading the enduro mag machine and ride tests
And at £140 here they appear to be worth a go

My previous SLX and current Zees suffer a lot from wandering bite point, I’ve re-bled them countless times now

This is an issue I have with the XT’s

I’m swaying to shimano only for the fact that I have experience of bleeding them and have a litre of brake oil in the shed

That trail is well known and sadly a shadow of it’s former self, well not so much a shadow but a great big scar only made worse and worse by people riding it irrespective of conditions

Scar is the correct word, what surprised me is that strava (as an indication only) shows that this trail has been used more so far this year than the main BW

If you’re going to ride cheeky, make sure it is just that

    +1

If we’re talking about who and where I think we are, perhaps give the company a shout before and naming and shaming

Hi BWD many thanks for the above I’ve just been reading through the gore rex customer promise and will certainly be following that up with SP.

Looking at my purchase history the jacket isn’t even 3 years old and is still in excellent condition overall so I would argue that it should still be within its useful life.

I have a local decathlon so will check that out.
Experiance with most “walking” jackets is that I get soaked from the inside out.
MT500 does look good and I saw the STW review the other day but £170 is to steep

The bikes look lovely but pricing just doesn’t add up for me
    I’m looking at a 20″ bikes this
    year.
The hope is a similer spec to the early rider 20 trail 3 but slightly lighter, with chain drive and hope bling
If you keep it two years its £384
(Although they do replace tyres and work out parts for this)

Early rider is around £500 new
And I would expect to get more than 50% back on that

Also if you don’t get one straight away you may get a refurbished one in which case a second hand isla beinn would be a better option for around £280 with a normal 70% return price.

If the hope 20″ was around £10 pm then I would certainly consider it though as that would be in line with the overall cost of other options

+1 on the kask Rex, I’ve got a giro shaped head and the rex fits perfect
Its very light and the coolest helmet I’ve owned
Overall I’m really impressed with it

I suffer the same and even with a good core get very cold fingers
Have always used aldi winter gloves which are ok down to around 3 deg C for me but recently tried the specialized element 2.0 gloves after some good feedback on here.
At £45 and with gore windstopper outer and thinsulate insulation you would think they would be miles better than the Aldi’s in all honesty they are slightly better.
I do like the extended wrist section through.
Still getting cold fingers though, I even went one size up and tried my liners in on one sub zero ride and still had numb fingers.
I do find that if they start to go numb I can shake my arms and hands like crazy and this helps to get the warmth back.
Defiantly think there is nothing else to do other than pogies or try something to improve my circulation

Unadjustable ear straps wasted it for me

You mean the toggles on the chin strap which you can move to provide more/less clearance of the strap from your ears?

I asked wiggle last week if the problem has been resolved as I’m interested in the helmet also.
They said that they don’t have any reports of the pads being changed but will ask Giro and let me know.

Mine developed the knock of death, LBS ended up sending it back to the black hole of Sram service department.
I was lucky as they (LBS) had a demo shock that I used whilst mine was away for 6 weeks!
Ended up getting a new one under warranty

I went a couple of weeks ago after not going for about the same time
Thought it was a good balance of fireroads and fun natural stuff
The new section is more groomed but takes you by surprise as its so different to the rest of the trail
Dropping through the wall is a great idea
