I’m currently running a DHR2 rear with a Mary front. I like the DHR2 as a winter (well autumn-winter-spring) rear tyre. Seems to work well where you’d want a Mary up front.

+1 on this combo its fantastic

I’ve got a 2015 scout and as above I absolutely love it.
I would also agree that the bearings do need some attention and more frequent maintenance (in the peak anyhow).
Even good quality max enduro ones can suffer (especially the lower BB ones)

I changed mine last week and got some good quality marine grease which I’ve used to repack them

Over thing to note is that there are 4x 3802-2RS which for some reason I can’t quite work out cost £20 each.

Patrol or an airdrop edit will almost certainly be my next bike

Yep got my lad the MX 20 team for his 6th birthday recently
Think its fantastic, more of a mtb than the hybrid isla bikes we have had before (which are also great).

Sounds good, my lads been getting on really well with his at mtb club
I changed the surprisingly heavy slippy small plastic pedeals for
The below last week (they look 5 weeks to arrive)
Nice platform size for a 6 year old, light and not as sharp as the normal pins on flats

BWD I’ve just been living in hope that just one of the British brands would make something that works in typical British conditions

Just got a new pair of DT EX511 on pro 4’s which would meet all your requirements for width and toughness
They actually came up slightly lighter than the WTB Freq 23ID rims I took off

Never thought of re-sealing but would only be a short term fix in my experience the sand and grit in the peaks rubs the material that it either wears though or in most cases delaminates

I’ve just bought some army pants on eBay so will see how they work out over this winter.

As per hodgynd and rocketdog I don’t believe they exist either.

I’m on a longterm quest to find something that works in the peaks for more than one winter (or in some instances more than 2 rides):

    So far I’ve been through:
3x altura attacks all delaminated and warrantied
1x Endura MT500 waterproof delaminated warrantied
2x Tenn waterproof (the worst of all) both wore through warrantied
2x Maddison storm first ripped second delaminated and all the seals on the zips came off warrantied
2x Maddison addict dwr, very nice shorts but the taped seam around the bum comes off in a couple of rides warrantied
Currently on Atura 360 with the dwr bum, after two very wet and muddy enduro races the the taped seam around the bum is coming off.

I’m hesitant to spend the crazy money on the mud rides as I can’t see them lasting long either.

Army shorts may be next but as noted they are very baggy and flappy

    Edit
What does work though is a good pair of water resistant 3/4 bibs under my shorts if its cold enough

Just bought my lad an MX team (non disc) last week.
Its bang on 8.5kg on the luggage scales.
I’ve put a smaller 40mm stem on to reduce the reach.
I’m really impressed by it tbh.

HH lifa’s my fav, I’ve found for the last few years the antibacterial stuff is lots better and mine dont stink like the old ones.
If you search around they can be found pretty cheap also.

For me Lifa with a thin shell down to around 0Deg (maybe with a SS jersey over) and anything below I use a lifa Ice

I’ve had my MT5’s about 4 months after getting fed up with shimano’s
They where initialy improved by taking the MT5 standard pads out (once completely worn in a month)
And putting the individual MT7 ones in (uberbike do these also).
But I didn’t like the stupid big levers at all so upgraded to the single finger HC levers.

I got these cheap from DE as they are stupid expense at RRP.
I haven’t got a clue why these aren’t supplied as standard as they honestly change the brakes from very good to outstanding.

    Mines an x1 build
    Changed the cranks for 170’s
    Extended the pike to 150
And changed the brakes to magura MT5’s

Winter storm appears to identical to the addict dwr
Addict name has been dropped due to legal reasons so everything is being rebranded

Nobeer the above makes sense as when I took the second pair back today they wanted me to swap for another pair of shorts again.

As noted above stans S1 in arch or flow can be had from £315.
Or if they have them in stock £280 with a BC discount from CRC (plus another £5 if you use a cash back site thing)

I ended up picking a set of the Stans S1 builds for £315 quid.
They are slightly heavier than a custom build but at that price with tape and valves I think they are worth serious consideration

Speeder maybe, below from CRC this morning:

“Our customer wheel build assembly facilities are currently being restructured for future efficiency. This means we cannot provide custom wheel build again until late 2017.

We can provide, rims, hubs and spokes. You can then get a local mechanic to assemble the parts for you”

The Joint MT 5 stocks pads don’t last long at all.
If you swap to the individual pads from the MT7 they are much better.
You can get these aftermarket from uberbike here

But it’s worth noting that the pads don’t come with the retaining screws that you need for the individual pads

The only way I found to get these was to also buy a set of magura mt7 pads pads which come with the screws

I also entered the world of enduro this year with ok fitness levels and what I thought was a good technical level of riding
But found the events both physically and technically demanding.
I ended both events in the bottom quarter, but thats not to say I was put off, I really enjoyed the races and its actually spurned me on to improve both my fitness and speed.
So much so that I entered two more this year.

    Slight thread hijack sorry
Looking for a trip next year and was originally looking at Just ride finale or similar but then noticed that the trips and flights to sierra Nevada are in general much cheaper.

We are all riders from the peak and I think overall are looking for a bit more of a challenge than the peaks (albeit much higher) in the sun.
Finale appears to offer this but do the trails in the Sierra Nevada also ?

Hi Ehrob I also have a scout and have just asked TF about a third option which is to tune the shock.
I’m not sure the plus is going to make a huge difference, for me it’s about the bike really hanging on bigger square edge stuff (this is slightly limited by the travel) and also getting out of its depth on hitting rocky or rooty trails at speed
I’ve posted on mtbr and I’ve been advised to resize the shim stacks but this is a bit outside my I can’t be bothered level.
I’ll let you know what they say, the new dbair il or coil looks great but it’s not enough of an upgrade to spend £300 + on.

Edit: £200 for the plus in the correct size at plant x is a bargain though !

We moved back to Sheffield 3 years ago to the west side of he city and it’s an amazing place to live imho.
As noted above you can’t go wrong in the S10 postcode as you are both 10mins from the city centre and 15mins from the peaks, plus there is tons of great from the door step plus all the new trails being built all over the city
I would argue that Sheffield is now one of the best MTB riding locations in the uk.

One thing to note from experience, expect to pay 10-15% over the asking price for some postcodes.

We tend to use the coniston hall campsite as its cheap and no booking required
Its a 10 min walk in coniston which has a couple of pubs and takeaways etc
Also you can ride from the camp site to lots of local southern lakes stuff

I’m more tempted by that for the extra £40

OK so bringing this back to life, I just got an email from sportpursuit to say that berghaus found a leak in the membrane which cannot be repaired or unfortunately replaced.
So I will get a refund.
Thanks to BWD for the heads up on goretex usable life Warrenty.

So now got a bit more in the pot to play with any recommendations or sales on anything as good or better than the vapour storm (its now twice what I paid for it)
