You could reduce the travel internally

I had this with my twin girls (now 8 years old) and the best solution was to put them in separate rooms and close the doors. May not be an option for you I realise. If they can't hear each other and you can't hear them they may just go back to sleep naturally. If they do really need you I'd be surprised if you didn't hear them even from behind a closed door.

I got rid of mine a couple of years ago and changed to USE. It's a neat solution if you have one bike, bear in mind if you run a short stem you will need the other battery that mounts widthways.

Doesn't seem to be any less protection from a 2D compared to the Xen I had before

    jamesgarbett

Not since I got my Specialized 2D. Lighter, better ventilated and fits me better than a Xen – expensive though

Some old but good 80mm forks from eBay with a long steerer?

    jamesgarbett

Why would adding 20mm (before sag) of travel add 60mm to the bar height?

    Rigid 29er forks?

Ah OK that makes sense – I've been doing that climb for about 15 years and seen loads of horses and bikes on there and never had a problem with a walker

Crikey I've been riding that cheeky climb for years without knowing it was cheeky – I think the footpath signs may be wrong

Think the routes cross at Wethercotes near the strange farmhouse with all the abandoned vehicles and the dogs that used to chase me

Hi Rob – Rowarth is my local ride from home route – options for extending it are to go into Hayfield and then north up the bridleway east of the A624 coming back on to the route near Blackshaw Farm. Or go south of Birch Vale and head up onto the Chinley Churn route but go east towards the A624 rather than west towards New Mills. Or you could easily connect the two circuits together. Of the two I prefer Rowarth to Disley.

    Thin socks in summer

    Merino socks in winter

Don't like no socks as feet get really dirty!

Dave – mail me direct if you want – I live on the outskirts of Glossop.

Charlesworth (near me) might be an option if you want more of a village feel – it does have 2 pubs though and some of the people are a bit Royston Vasey – nice riding from there up around Lantern Pike – tends to be quieter than the other side of Hayfield.

However I'd echo what BWD said about traffic – a mate of mine has been commuting to Knutsford from Glossop for over a year and it's driven him mad – regularly taking 90 mins to 2 hours each way – bottlenecks out of Glossop then again on the M67, then on the M60 and finally on the M56.

    Cheers James

Morning all – sounds like a healthy debate overnight!

The Focus Cayo I'm looking at has these spec options:

    Compact double – 50/34 with 12-27 cassette
    Triple – 50/39/30 with 12-27 cassette

Now I am by no means Lance Armstrong and I do prefer to spin a lower gear off-road but I was thinking I might spend more time in the middle ring of a triple rather than switching frequently between the two rings of a double? Or do most of you stay on the 50t 90% of the time making this irrelevant? I haven't ridden a road bike for so long I genuinely don't know what the gearing feels like.

I live in the Peak District so I guess there are some hills here but perhaps not by Alpine standards.

    Thanks for all the replies!

I sent some Endura Event trousers back to them after they started to wear prematurely. They said they never arrived but then weeks later they phoned me to say they'd found them but that they would charge me to repair them. I argued the toss for a bit and asked them to re-think. A few days later they turned up repaired at no charge.

They just sound a bit disorganised to me. All the other Endura stuff I've had has been good.

I'm running a 2.4 UST on the back just because it was the only UST tyre I had kicking around when I needed one. It's OK but not great in mud and draggy if you ever go on a road. Pretty good on rocks though and mine doesn't seem to be wearing as fast as Schwalbe's.

No way you should see that much of a difference, even when reconnecting the pump straight away it should be perhaps 5psi down on the previous reading
