so I rode both dyfi and tweedlove which were both ews qualification rounds. I never registered to collect points at the time. But reading the above, you only collect points from finishing near the sharpe end of the table. So me registering to collect points and then finishing mid table would have had no benefit at all to applying

so looking ahead to 2019 (assuming the current application process, etc stays the same) If there was a UK EWS round in 2019 and I want to apply, Do I have to have done some enduros and collected qualification points (e.g. done wges dyfi or tweed love) in 2018 or do the points just give you a better chance of getting a place.

I’ve got an alu one (top spec 8.0ex from 2015 range) and when looking at the difference in weight I couldn’t see the benefit vs the hole in my wallet to go carbon. plus I can get the hammer on for bearing changes and not worry as much.lol

I see more strives about and they are usual the higher spec ones. and the spectral I see are usual the mid to lower spec models. (but they look so a like its easy to get the mixed up to)

So guessing people who wanted to justify spunking a couple of grand on a top end bike thought they might as well get some extra travel to cover the ‘just in case I need’ thought process.

As per the comments above mine has been amazing. 2 and half years of trail riding and a couple of enduros each year. I’ve added 10mm of travel to the pikes and then an offset bush to bring BB back down and slacken it out a tad more. So its now 160mm from and 140 at the rear. and for UK riding its spot on.

    got a 2015 alu Spectral.

Bike ordered and came in 4 weeks

Had issue with Dbline rear shock. Service and turnaround was great.

Had replacement gearcable plastic mounts sent out free, and also a rear axle when I rounded it off like a noob

ordered replacement bearings. they all got sent out in different packages and some took ages, hence chased them and then they got double sent.

bike is amazing, its taken a hammering in 2 and half years (including a number of uk enduro races). on its second set of linkage bearings

Fyi – changing the air spring in the pikes to 160mm and then adding an offset bush to bring BB back down has worked out great.

But if your not in a rush I would be tempted to wait for next years releases of bikes. the stive and spectral (my 2015 is the same frame as the one u are looking at) have been running the same frames with just colour changes for the last 3 years. so I’m guessing there will be some changes coming to next years bikes.

daves videos defo make you feel a better rider.

he is also making a lot of content and the number of people subscribing to his channel is growing quickly.

I’ve been playing around doing videos and its good fun. I also found dave’s videos from uploading mine and they do make me worry sometimes. what he is riding to his skill level is a tad 😕 at times. But then it is a good watch also. lol

Finally got round to editing a few of my clips together.

But had a complete blast, great stages, rode with some good mates, went roaming.

Looking forward to tweed love as it’ll be first time up there and heard so many good things.

the 3 day format is a killer for myself. But after the WGES round at dyfi it reminded me that I do love the ‘bigger’ races. I always liked the way ‘UK enduro’ let you race blind on sunday. that worked really well for me. got to ride 6 or 7 good natural stages in one day of blind racing and not piss the wife and kids off.

I ordered some bearings last winter for my spectral direct from canyon and they actually came in a week or so. but they don’t sell the bushes. I got an offset bush

BES wasn’t that dissimilar to UKGE. Both put on tough loops and anyone who had done a ukge would have been fine with BES so where did everyone who did UKGE go?
Problems started with two competing series and more regional organisers putting on good events spreading numbers too thin across events.

Hope it works, I will be entering some as hopefully life wont be in the way as it has been this last two years.

    what he said 🙂

    British Downhill Series

    19 mins ·
    ..

Exciting news for the UK enduro racer, UK Gravity Enduro is returning both bigger and better for the 2018 season.

The Grand father of the UK Enduro scene, Steve Parr and his partner Liz have taken a well deserved year-long break from the race scene, spending valuable time with their two-year-old daughter Imogen.
The #bringbackparr campaign started in 2017 and got the grey matter thinking said Steve. Now is the time to deliver a national level enduro series that takes in the best tracks and venues the UK has to offer.

The format will be the same as previous years – 5 rounds Nationwide, all with seeding on Saturday and 5 stages on Sunday. Camping will be available from Thursday evening, with open trails on Friday.
Personal insurance will NOT be required but is highly recommended, helmets must be worn at all times and must be of the full face variety (detachable chin guards must be in place on stages).

Planning for 2018 is now well underway, dates and venues will be announced just after the EWS dates are released. Entries will go live on Saturday the 3rd of February at 09:00 with places limited to 300 riders on a first come, first served basis. More announcements regarding title sponsor and supporting sponsors will soon follow

In short my spectral and inline are two years old.

    – rear shock let go after 11 months. was rebuilt with better internals. All fine now but due a service
    – all suspension link bearings swapped after 13 months, a couple of bearings had fully let go at this point.
    – shock mounting hardward changed a few months after the bearings, as having them fixed highlighted the play in the bushes. can’t remember if I could slide the new ones in by hand

as already mentioned, if you can’t set up gears you shouldn’t be ordering / building a mail order bike.
I have had a number of dealings with canyon on my spectral. and they have been spot on and I’d 100% buy another bike off them.

    1. I lost some cable grips on the down tube. Posted me some out free
    2. I rounded off my rear maxle. post me another out free
    3. db inline shock was losing pressure. it was sent off fixed in 2 weeks and no charge
    4. ordered replacement frame bearings. all came in a week or two.

thanks for the nice comments jekkyl. It is indeed Hopwas, staffs. next to Tamworth. It does get boggy over the winter but it’ll be fine now until next winter.

In regards to GPX routes. you can do a number of XC routes from hopwas using local bridleways going away and then back to hopwas woods (i’ll grab one and stick it up for you). But all the trails in wood itself are in a very condensed area. So once you have found one trail you have basically found them all. so a gpx route for just hopwas woods is near impossible to follow as everything is just on top of everything else. if that makes any sense? lol

Lol, luckily I was at the sherwood pines one. Just seemed to be full of parents with toddlers and babies. But that’s exactly who we had with us, he he

On the plus side Joshua ( my lad, now 2 and half) started lifting both feet off the ground on his balance bike while we were there. Very cool to see
