    Late but still right

    http://www.monmouth.org.uk/Leisure/cycling.aspx

There`s also a 3 castles walk, Skenfrith / Grosmont / White Castle so the 4 castles route will include Monmouth castle I guess; crcking area you live in Nicknoxx. Beautiful quiet lanes. As for routes if you want MTB ones check out Brecon Beacons cycling routes, includes some on Black Mtn too. Road riding so much to go at, Gospel PAss, Wye valley towards Hereford, out towards Ross on Wye, Forest of Dean (+ MTBing opps too)

You just have to wait and see! I believe that there is a reserve price option on ebay but this cannot be put retrospectively. Some of items I`ve sold on ebay have gone at good prices for me, others been disappointing

Contact Garmin Tech support? I`ve found tehm quite helpful in past (eg my 305 appeared to have died, and they advised full reboot of unit= now OK)

Thanks guys for this, hopefully I`ll get it on all bubble free—nice shiny new BFe to be protected!

May have water in altimeter sensor? Twice mine has gone a bit potty with its readings, but not as bad as yours!, telling me I was going uphill on a downhill. Seems that you can get a small water droplet on the sensor hole; first time I dried it out carefully on a storage heater, second time just gave it a good shake and alt dropped from 6500ft to about 5000ft immediately (wet Pyrenees descent Port de Bales, btw)

EN521 is about 80 gm each more than 719….teh sort of weight difference that can be found between different inner tubes / tyres! So on a more genarla point if you use a heavier rim you could compensate for this in your choice of inner tube for example

Smear a bit of grease on all the cups and seal rings IMO, the rcaes themselves should be sealed but a bit of grease around the seal rings and outside wouldnt go amiss---stops creaking sounds (my carbon road bike recently sounded like it had a terminal break around head tube, a terrible grating sound when riding out of saddle; eventually I took all headset to pieces, greased around all cups, seal rings and now its absolutely silent again)

So what is the procedure for best application? Heat tape / heat frame, ??, heat as rolling onto frame?, after lightly sticking to frame?

Is Finish Line Green just a branded version of 90wt gear box oil possibly, looks similar, smells similar and has same apparent viscosity, in which case woudl that be a cheap way of buying in bulk??

TJ, from your previous posts and Putoline info all sounds a pain in xxxx to apply—Squirt sounds much more user friendly overall and maybe I`ll get some now

YES; Ive now got 3 x pairs Spesh BG carbon soled shoes (2 for raod, 1 for MTBing)--best shoes Ive ever had; I tried a pair of fibre glass soled BGs and could feel paedlas thro` soles>>> back to carbon

Schwalbe Black Sharks 2.1 mud, great tyre in wet grass / mud conditions; work well on rocks too (FAR better than Trailrakers); as they wear down a bit they become Dirty Dans too!
Conti X Country 1.5s too if they are still available?

    jamesb

Yes wipe down excess but still terrible grinding after 1 hr riding

Good to se that others find them bad too! Having bought a pair find, poor mud grip, slippery on wet grass and bounce alamingly off rocks..yet they seem to have high rating reviews eg MTBR that persuaded me to give them a go 🙁 Worse as an allrounder than Schwalbe Black Sahrk Mud 2.1 which ahve superb mud grip, and wet grass grip and are OK on rocks (better than Trailrakers anyway)

If youre not worried about the weight I think that the freehub can be swopped for a steel one, and if youre worried about the weight but not the cost a titanium one…..

Trans Pyrenees / North Sea Randonnee (7000km!)—seriously though like you I`ve ridden C2C and LEJOG and my next step was indeed trans Pyrenees, a really graet experince and if you can manage LEJOG will be within your abilities, allow 6-7 days

Pretty well agree with above, apart from second part!
Do a level 2 MTB course, then go out and practise / consolidate on more difficult / tech stuff, maybe go on a level 3 skills course. The extra part of being high and remote could be tackled through appropriate remote terrain 1St Aid courses.

I`m thinking of giving up my little used FS to buy a steel hardtail so interesting thread; however I currently own a Van Nic Ti hardtail too, 70deg head, 72.5 seat angles, 19.5″ frame so wonder of Cotic BFe / Dialled Bikes P A / On One 456 would give a much appreciably different ride to my Ti, and be much tougher , before I step away from my Full Suss?

I would want to transfer kit from FS to a possible new hardtail, this being Hope Hoops on EN521 / Hope Mono minis etc

No don`t agree with your physics—–as the larger cassette sprockets are obviously larger there is a bigger torque applied to teh freehub body = more damage; imagine the sprockets to be spanners acting on a bolt (ie teh freehub), the longer the spanner teh bigger the force applied to the freehub.
Having used non alloy carriers on Pro II previously issue seems to be that teh scoring / notching results in sprockets being difficult to remove iME

You`re supposed to use an alloy cassette carrier with Pro 2, apparently!

Michelin Krylions or Vittoria Rubino Pros, both can be got for about £20 each if you look around, both wear very well, are very puncture resistsnt and overall good unless you are into real top end stuff etc

absolutely which is why I want to be certain that IF I reduce the travel it will reduce A2C height also (as running a 120 on a frame really meant for 100—-BUT the A2C on the Fox is only about 10mm more than my previous 100mm fork)

Use your existing summer shoes with sealskins socks + neoprene overshoes??

    jamesb

Thanks, so if I reduce the 120 to 100 then with a spacer does the fork crown / axle height also get reduced by 20mm or is this going to be a fixed distance ?

wiper service (a 15hr service) is very easy to do, just need the Fox Float oil and 7.5wt oil to top up, torque wrench and appropriate sized socket. less than 30 min in total

Yes makes a great chainsaw chain lube, use local smkt veg oil with my saw; studies have looked at the properties of veg oils as a chainsaw lube and it has very high tenacity and low wear rates; I personally see no reason why it shouldnt work on bike chains, although it may wash off easily

one of the Van Nic frames??? about £1000ish I`m riding a Zion with 120mm forks and seems OK despite 100m recommended—Mamtor takes 140mm it seems

GPS seems to lose track when in woods from my experiences (Edge 305) and can give very spurious grade percent when climbing on wooded tracks. However having accurately calibrated my cycle computer (measure on floor exactly one wheel revolution) I find that on ride GPS and computer are very very close, ie <0.2% difference. GPS can give lots of extra useful / useless data too eg HR, grade, ascent gained, time elapsed, time of day etc etc depending on how data fields are set. But bike attachment is not strongest in world so tend to keep it for road bike use, not risking MTB knocks and vibrations

Should`nt keep bedding in for a ride or two! When wheel is built spoke tension, twisting, should have been relieved by stressing rim all way around, eg by putting on floor and pushing down on rim; this gives spokes a chance to bed in and unwind any tension or twisting. IME any wheel pinging has only lasted a few wheel turns before stopping. I have had 2 pairs of Hope Hoops, 1 MTB and 1 road 700c; neitehr pinged at all on first ride or thereafter.

just use a small zip tie loosely secured, a slip fit tightness; I use zip ties on front forks and my RP3 raer for this purpose

Yes the large one, takes a lot of stuff—the roll top one as in here http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Ortlieb_Large_Saddle_Bag/5360007523/#more

Large Ortlieb great, had one for nearly 10 years, takes 2 x tubes, levers, multitool, waterproof, spare gloves, base layer , wallet, gel bars. Totally waterproof, acts as a minor mudguard too Much prefer this to stuffing bits in jersey pockets. Perhaps doesn`t look teh part though on top spec carbon road bike!

there are other threads too with excatly same issue about CRC; they seem to be getting slack I agree, of my last 5 orders , alll before 10am just one arrived next day; and from other thread comments even paying for next day doesnot gurantee that it seems. I have also noticed that soem of teh sale prices seem a bit ambititious, ie lowest sale price stated is for some obscure size clothing item or only realtes to a small selection of a range eg tyres colours

+1 more for surf mat; when behind walkers on trails I just freewheel and loverly ratchety sound from Pro II hubs usually politely alerts them

motorist education should come before compulsory helmets (for road riding); riding off road you`d be daft not to wear one. When cars pass me at 60 mph a few inches out no helmet would save me if they hit me, education that CYCLIST NEED SPACE would save more lives.
