I like to think it was the enourmous power coming from my legs.

The hub has actually cracked completely on opposite sides. The middle bearing had completely dis-integrated inside.

I’d been in Wales for the weekend. Managed coed y brenin Thursday, Snowdon llanberis Friday then it failed part way round Penmancho (sp?) on Saturday. Sadly meant I was unable to join the ride around the Marin trail Sunday.

Thanks – I’ve tried sticking some cable ties in, hopefully it works.

Sir HC i think it mus be your picture i saw somewhere that made me think of velcro, definitely would have tried that if i was putting new cables in!

    Probably below xo prices.

Possibly silly question, but does ‘gxp’ relate to the bb bearing being bigger one side than the other? So should any gxp crank work with the bb?

Ah yes, they are gxp cranks.

Budget for any replacements is unfortunately somewhat minimal..

Thanks, but think my cranks are possibly older and don’t have the removable spider.

If you’re changing cable, pull a piece of string through with the old cable then usr the string to pull the new cable back through.

No need to put outer all the way through, and no faff threading the new inner through the frame.

Bit of a PITA, i know, but they do a 30 day return i believe, so you can sorta use that as a test ride.

I’ve no experience of the srrive, but had a couple of XL Nerve’s and, although a bit taller at 6 foot 5, definitely wouldnt go any smaller.

I go to thruxton most years. Its an exposed track, so its usually cold even if its a warm day!

Great day out. Pits are free during qualifying, but gotta pay on race day.

Drivers are all really nice and up for a chat if you go into the oits, especially those in the support classes who arent being rushed around everywhere between races.

be prepared to queue for hours to get out of the car park though, kts a horrendous bottle neck getting out of the field!

Their website really is horrendous! What is the easiest way to enter??

Managed to get the Endura FS260sl from Chain Reaction and they turned up today.

As I say above, I’m tall but skinny. Bought extra large to get the length on the shoulder straps and they’re just the right size. The extra 40mm length in the leg is noticeable and they sit just above the knee, much mor elike a ‘normal’ person wearing ‘normal’ bibs than the hot pants look I would usually end up with!

They aren’t baggy around the leg either which I was a bit worried about with the xl size. Plenty of rubber grip bits inside the leg too so I imagine they’ll stay put pretty well. Haven’t been for a ride yet but very impressed so far!

Thanks, turned out I had entered 8)

Anyone know if there’s an entry list somewhere? Pretty sure I’ve entered but can’t really remember and don’t wanna turn up if I haven’t actually entered…

Not helping with your list of UK rides, but do you know what the riding is like in Australia? I know that’s a massively vague question due to the size of Australia, but I’m backpacking the east coast soon (Cairns > Melbourne) and would love to get some riding in, ideally uplift assisted DH riding?

I know there’s a world cup track in Cairns just wondered if anyone’s ridden anywhere else out there?

Above was aimed at your first post, ratherbeintobago, as hadn’t seen our second post when I posted.

Still recommend going as big as possible for cool factor though. If possible, get some blingy coloured floating rotors (hope/superstar) – they give you the ability to ‘shred more gnar’

ratherbeintobago – increasing the disc size will never give greater one off stopping power, as the pad is the same and therefore contact patch hasn’t changed. However, the bigger disc will stand up to heat better and will give better sustained braking power on a long descent (within reason, a crap 200mm rotor is probably no better than a decent 160mm rotor).

If you’re gonna be riding DH you may as well run a 200mm/180mm set up as it looks super cool and will make you a mega rad rider.

Yeah it’s tight but comes undone. Goes loose for about a quarter turn then gets stuck.

Do those tensioning cups/rings need to be loosened off before undoing the bolt?

Yep I’ve got a torque ex alpinist. Fantastic spec for the money. Nice stuff ride (giggidy) that just inspires confidence.

It’s quite a heavy bike and it does get tough on pedally rides but think that’s partly due to my frame being a tad small. Descends and jumps amazingly well though. Fantastic bike for uk uplift days with 180mm travel and ok for trail centre day rides but perhaps a bit heavy for any sort of distance riding.

My second canyon too, a brand I’ll always recommend.

Was going to go but bottled it due to the weather.

How did they run it? Use existing DH runs or completely new trails? What was the uphill ‘transition’ stage like?

Hoping they’ll host another next year.

I made it down so it can’t be too hard.

As above, very chalky so definitely avoid in the wet but great fun in the dry. Does seek to dry out very quick though and doesn’t suffer from mud/puddle build up.

All rollable on the blue line other than the big drop at the end known as the ‘coffin drop’. To be honest, the red (hooper Struve?) is all probably rollable too as you can go around the big drop on that run too.

All in all, a good day out and a fiver well spent I’d say. Certainly better than most other options locally.

Pretty steep entry – for £45 can I at least use the uplift in morning practice??

That said, I’m still probably going to enter…

What’s the trail to follow to get to the bike park from the centre where Whites starts (the car park by the fishing lakes)?

Thinking of heading up some time this week or next but don’t want to miss the bike park this time.

Yeah it’s bare cable inside the frame.

If you’re removing cable from the frame, attach a bit of string to the end of the cable. Pull the cable out and the string will be in the frame where your cable was. When putting cable back in, attach it to the string and pull the string out, your cable will be back in the frame (hopefully…)

I went this morning and it’s all very dry and fast – probably the best conditions I’ve ridden in there in a long time. No mud at all, my shorts don’t even look like I’ve been out riding.

Make the most of riding there tomorrow – think there’s more rain forecast for the week so it’ll probably be sticky again next weekend.

Yep I use the KS remote instead of one of the clamps. No issues so far and I’ve done quite a few miles in all conditions and all sorts of riding (commuting/xc/dh) – just make sure it’s done up properly and there shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m heading out there this summer and will be looking to hire a bike for a few days. Website isn’t giving much info to actually hire a bike at the moment – is it sensible to assume bike hire wouldn’t be available until the bike park is open again after winter?

    Do you ride every Thursday?

I ride with another club on Thursdays but live a few miles from lordswood so could ride with you if I can’t make the other ride.

And what sort of time/distance do you ride?

Only done lordswood twice so keen to learn the place better.

Yeah you’ll need an adaptor. Came with some models but not the Nerve AM. Wasn’t on their website when I needed one so may need to email them.

Painey – did your mate do anything about the poor paint finish?

I’ve got a Nerve AM, had it since about March ’12. The white on the top tube has rubbed off quite badly from my shorts rubbing when wet/dirty, and my light battery has taken a few chips out of it and stupidly the frame is black under a very thin layer of white so it looks pretty poor now! Just wondered whether he had tried making an issue about it and whether Canyon did anything about it?

I’ve also worn through shock pivots and bearings in the swingarm mount so know only too well how shocking their customer service is!

Saying all that, I’d still recommend a Canyon. Lots of fantastic bike for the money, just try not to break anything that your lbs can’t fix…

It’s the only cable that came with the post.

I’m not sure the cable will fit in the hole into the frame due to the cabe housing anyway so I think under the top tube is the best route, just unsure how to mount it.

Were do people get the KS Lev from other than UK (Germany seems popular)?

Being about 6 foot 5 and riding a 22 inch frame I think I’ll need the biggest post they do (420mm with 150mm drop I think) but apparently that one isn’t available in the UK. Hoping it’s available in Europe to get shipped over here – anyone got a link?
