    Definitely incurable…

The lever is a flair 58, I don’t use it much but levers can produce some great thick shots with medium roasts.

I do a mixture of light roasts and also filter coffees using the decent… Which flow and also temperature control during the shot is essential for.

You’ve bought a flat burr grinder.  The consensus is that conical grinders may be better at dark and medium/dark roasts – but bottom line…. it’s going to taste different.  Flat burr grinders are also harder to dial in than conical – they are less forgiving/have a much narrower window of “good”.

I’m not entirely sure that’s true about flat Vs conical.

Conical burrs trend to produce more fines, therefore can give more ‘depth’ to an espresso… However that’s down to the specific burr set.

E.g. an SSP MP burr won’t give you much depth as it is designed to produce very uniform grind and very little fines. It’s great for light roasts and filter.

Other flat burrs are designed specifically to generate more fines and give you more body.

The eureka in the picture is a zero isn’t it? It has a small 55mm burr designed to generate fines. That will taste very similar to a niche zero with a conical.

Aluminium does not crack like that, especially over a weld.

At worst it is a crack in the paint that likely occurred when it was curing.

Be careful about believing the hype about software development and creativity.

Some believe the hype about being in a free thinking, boundary pushing, creative state and believe they truly have the freedom to fail fast, iterate their way to success and being on constant journeys of discovery… but 99.9% of software engineering jobs are modifying bog stand, forms based platforms for any old corporate organisation.

Also very few organisations truly have flat structures, even start-ups are riddled with power and conflict. People taking credit for things they didn’t do etc.

Some organisations may be closer to what you are looking for… but most wont be.

I’d just be careful before jumping… grass, greener etc.

I just couldn’t cope with buying a £4k+ bike with an NX drivetrain and Yari fork.

Well buy one that comes with X01 and a Lyrik then.

“I am not too sure what your experience was but are you saying that SC will give you a “free“ frame if it’s damaged by a rock?”

I’m saying, based on my experience, I had some damage to a frame which looked like it could be a rock strike, which I declared it as to Santa Cruz (Jungle) expecting to have to pay for a subsidised crash replacement and was given a brand new frame without any charge.

It was a painless and very quick exchange.

Which is the total opposite of what i experienced with Canyon. Which took a huge amount of time, lots of arguing, stress, lies from Canyon, having to send a frame off for months, not hearing anything back etc etc etc.

Nothing to do with Canyon, it’s a rock strike.

The problem around making a decision to keep on riding on a carbon frame with rock strike damage or buying a new one.

That problem went away for me because of Santa Cruz.

This is one of the problems of going with an organisation like Canyon to get a bike.

I’ve just cracked my BB area on my 2018 Santa Cruz Nomad and Santa Cruz are replacing my frame with a brand new frame as a good will gesture. I didn’t ask them to, I just enquired about crash replacement.

When I had a canyon strive (2015 model) and the chain guide mount (which was mounted to two weak carbon mounting points) broke without a crash (chain got stuck and pulled it off) and also cracked the chain stay (clearly a design flaw), Canyon refused to do anything for months – it took nearly 6 months to get them to do anything.

Whilst there is a cost saving up front, this kind of thing makes it worth buying premium brand.

People keep saying what a ball ache removing the original cranks are, but realistically how often do you relive cranks?!?! Especially ones fitted to a Hope BB?

Realistically, how can an organisation with supposed engineering skills “engineer” something as bad as that design?

It took them about 3 years to come up with it as well with all the prototypes.

In a world of lean, agile and doing what is needed, rather than over doing things… Hope failed spectacularly.

Not sure about the new hope cranks but the old ones were terrible.

Hideous over engineered design, prone to coming loose and I was lucky enough for the spline interface to crack as well.

Then the famous hope customer service did me proud by refusing to do anything because I’d lost my receipt from the year before.

I’ve got a barely used set of 35ws which are in excellent condition (replacement front after bucking old ones)… I’d be open to sell if anyone loves hope wheels.

    jaketurbo

I’ve never had any problems with their rims either, so are you going on hearsay or actual experience?

Experience. The enduros, the old DH rims and some 35ws.

Hope rims, personally I’d stay well clear… Every wheel they’ve manufactured bends like cheese.

Likewise, not a fan of the hubs either. When compared to decent hubs, the lack/delay in
    engagement is really noticeable.

Look for something more solid and ideally with a dt Swiss hub…

Haven’t read the thread. OLED is genuinely different tech. Qled is a bullshit Samsung marketing term.

Not sure for that bike, but loving aggressor rear and exo maxxterra assegai front.

Fast rolling, tons of grip / confidence on the front.

Just be aware if you rent from Adobe, you are tied in to a fixed term. If you cancel, they’ll bill you for the full term.

The muc off stuff is supposedly co2 friendly. Smells alright. No idea how it does with punctures.

Stay away from anything branded ‘Peatys’. Not because it is not co2 friendly… Just because it is shit.

    Thanks for posting.
Would be good to hear your thoughts after few more rides & fiddling.
About to upgrade to a debonair spring on my Yari’s.

Don’t even think about changing to the debonair spring, just do it. It costs like £40… No brainer, big improvement.

Consider the charger damper upgrade. Depends on the riding you do. If more sedate, maybe not needed… If you ride harder, more varied and steep terrain, do it.

    jaketurbo

The charger damper is far better than the moco damper. Not just small bump sensitivity but actually being able to handle repeated bigger guys again and again. moco just gets overwhelmed after 2 or 3.

Really it just needs tuning properly.

    Is it the rc2 version?

If it is, turn off hsc and LSC. Then ride… And increase only if needed.

    Totally off topic but

Kier Starmer and Andy Burnham I’d vote for if it meant getting the Tories out.

Andy “I’m in it for the publicity” Burnham. Jesus H.

No doubt he’ll go for the leadership after he solves homelessness.

the Lib Dems have only existed for about 30 years

Errrr… That’s not strictly true is it?

The current iteration of the party may be about 33 years old… But the liberal party has existed in some form or other for about 300 years.

Sounds like you are getting worked up about something that has so little impact on your life.

People just need to chill out and realise what is actually important in life.

The Lyrik and Pike are both 35mm, so they’re both in between.

The lyrik has thicker stanchions, 35mm external but thicker walls.

The lyrik has a more capable version of the charger 2 / charger 2.1 damper. Also RC adjustment. Also thicker lowers and stiffer crown and steerer.

It is a direct competitor to the 36 and probably better.

    Starvation is a better option.

Good shoes though… I’ve got the impact pro and the freerider pro. Both have lasted really well, had them since they first released in the UK so over a year.

    jaketurbo

The bog standard freeriders are like the bottom of the range five tens… Middling grip, fabric that gets waterlogged etc.

Look at the impact pro for max grip and stiffness or the freerider pro for a good trail shoe. Both dry well and are class leading.

Hes a nice guy but he just comes with too much baggage for middle England to get behind him.

    Is he though?
He comes across as narrow minded and petty.

If only he was a genuine socialist like Tony Benn, rather than being a self centred career politician.

    Best dogs ever

    Nope, that’s a beagle.

Cocker spaniels are great little dogs. Easy to train, recall is generally excellent as well.

Very good temperament in general and few major health issues.

There’s a number of documented cases on cockers suffering from an uncontrollable rage syndrome, unlikely but worth being aware of.

I always thought pro enduro was for retried downhill riders

Yeah, other than the fact Maes is faster than pretty much the entire UCI DH roster, wins enduros and DH events for fun.

Put a dhf, dhr2 or assegai on the front. Magic Mary or a wild enduro front could be an option as well.

Hans dampf for the rear or not at all.

Seeing she was under pressure I quipped something to the effect of “don’t worry we aren’t going to force a reformed alcoholic to drink” which raised a laugh

It does come across quite harshly to be honest.

Breaking the tension would usually mean you also would decline the wine and saying something like “sometimes it’s nice not to have a drink” or something that doesn’t draw further attention to someone who isn’t partaking in ‘social norms’.

Wasn’t there so maybe it was all taken in good spirits (pun intended).
