What grease are you using on the internals/seals?

If you put it on ebay wait till they are doing a £1 final fee offer. Seem to come round quite frequently.

What I saw was a bright white streak across the sky which looked like it was depositing a trail of stars (the satellites I guess) in its wake.

As the NHS is constantly under pressure, at least every winter, you could argue that no one should ever be doing anything which potentially increases their workload.

Maybe if the NHS was actually funded properly and we didn’t have a culture of wanting to send the poorly paid nurses “back home” then our health service wouldn’t be struggling so much.

+1 For the Airdrop! I’ve got the V2 and its great! Mate has the Bird Aeris and he really rates that too.

Any particular areas your looking at?

I’ve just started getting into making things. Made a large woodstore and a bed for my van.
The problem you may have at the moment is getting hold of timber.
I’ve been using mostly free pallets/scrap wood from the kindling box at the local agricultural/builders merchants.
I just had an idea of what I wanted to make and used the few tools I had lying around, basically an electric drill/screwdriver and a hand saw. In trying to make something you’ll quickly learn all the things you have done wrong and all the tools which would have made the whole process a lot better and easier. I’ve actually quite enjoyed realising everywhere I’ve gone wrong!

Bearing in upside down? Lbs fitted a hope headset for me once and put lower bearing in upside down confused me for a while!

How often are people doing a lower leg service on their forks with the smashpot fitted?

Ah good to know its not me being stupid at least! These were both uberbike sintered pads it happened with. Good shout, i’ll pick up a couple of spare hope springs. Cheers!

I really like my zelite santoku knife, much prefer it to the globals I’ve used. For a cheaper decent knife I like the victorinox fibrox.

Damn, beat me to Joe abercrombie, just read his latest, I’d forgotten how good they are. Very easy to read quickly!

Presumably once the Brexit transition period is over the price of most new vehicles will go up, pushing up price of second hand too? So maybe better not to wait?

I appreciate its not a great time to be buying but my car has died so I need a vehicle. So its either buy another car which isn’t really appropriate for me or look for a little van with the hope of keeping it going a good few years. Regularly sleeping in the back of a car isn’t great really especially coming into winter. I live in a remote area so just going to the pub for the evening generally means kipping in the car.

So you can only be in groups of six but still sit in the pub and go to a football match or do organised sport. Seems to be saying you can be in big groups if your not friends or family. As far as i’m concerned the government had very little credibility before covid and they now have absolutely zero credibility.

Sorry, down cats scramble, not grannys ride. Though if you want to make it a bit longer you can climb up to stoke pero from horner woods then come down grannys ride and up the other side to drop into cats scramble

I often ride up Ley hill from Horner woods then drop down Grannys ride, then take a short bit of back road round to Porlock and ride up the Hawkcombe bridleway, going up the concrete track on the right then either onto the main road or little bit of footpath (bit cheeky!) on the left.
Coming back down Hawkcombe head back up the concrete track and take the bridleway on the right to stay along the top of the valley and get some great fast sections followed by a great descent down into Porlock.

I’ve got the smashpot in my lyriks. I think it’s great, lots of choice on spring weights and the bottom out adjuster works well. Handy that it can be swapped between forks and can change travel too.

Stanton switch9er fs? Look lovely, though personally I’d go for a 27.5 version.

Ive used TFT a few times and would recommend them. As above the air spring is an easy swap but if your getting the forks serviced by someone it may not be much extra for them to change the air spring too.

Does that descent start at smallacombe rocks? Any good coming over black hill from the road to the north to get to smallacombe rocks? Cheers for all the input, been riding the area for years and managed to miss a few good bits it seems!

    Cheers! Great descent that!
Is there a good descent over Haytor towards Hound tor? Normally skirt round the north side of Black hill and drop down to leighon

I found the dhr2 2.4wt to be far too draggy (on the back anyway), the 2.3 version is a lot better.

That’s great thanks! I did it once a few years back but think we took the wrong path and it wasn’t great. I’ve thought for a while I should check it out again.

I found my arch mk3 and flow mk3 both dented very easily. Replaced the arch mk3 with a Ex471 which is a fair bit heavier but pretty bomb proof as far as I can tell

Thanks for the replies! Im aware the guiding and coaching are separate qualifications but thought it would be interesting to look into doing both.
In terms of job prospects i’m not really expecting to make a living out of it but it would be nice to have the qualifications in case an opportunity arose.
In terms of qualifications what do you need to tick off to be a guide? As far as I can tell its just:
    Mountain bike leader 2
2 day outdoors first aid course
    Safe guarding thing.

Not really sure what you need for the coaching side of it?

Look up the princetown/burrator reservoir loop, not very techy but nice enough!
Exmoor has some lovely flowy singletrack around dunkery beacon, horner woods, hawkcombe.

I converted my lyriks with the smashpot kit and can recommend it. The advantages over buying a coil fork are that there are more options of spring weights, it can be swapped between forks and can change the travel, the bottom out adjuster is pretty neat too and works well. Vorsprung seem like a good company, I emailed them a couple of times and got quick replies.

Not sure if its the cheapest but the vorsprung smashpot kit is great, can be swapped between various forks (may need different top cap/foot nut) and can change the travel. The bottom out adjust is handy and works well too
