Certainly not the lightest weight wheels but they are considerably wider than my previous 19mm internal Superstar wheels (as well as being 300g lighter than the SS ones, so I did actually lose some weight), should be stronger and went up tubeless an absolute breeze, something I really struggled with with the SS wheels. In addition to this the Novatec hubs can be converted easily to 15mm/142×12 with end caps should I change frame/fork.

While I’m well aware they aren’t that light and are a pinned rim the main attraction as a skint student was the bargain price to be able to try out a wider rim on the Inbred (definitely an improvement!) while also recycling the SS wheels onto the commuter bike so I could put discs on that, a win all round for £100!

I’m usually pretty blasé about riding slightly suspect things (steerers way too short etc) but I’d think twice about riding those. I have no knowledge of what kind of stress a steerer tube is under but I wouldn’t risk it personally, could be fine though!

I built up a pair of those rims with decent double butted spokes and Novatec hubs (direct from China) for less that £100 to try out wider rims on the 29er. Built up really easily and tubeless is the easiest of any rim I’ve tried. An absolute bargain for what I wanted, maybe the only downside is the rims are a little heavy, but for £8 it’s hard to complain, especially as they are lighter than the wheels they replaced.

They’re on a rigid On One Inbred 29er for context.

I’ve got a set of On One Chunky Monkey/Smorgasbord on a set, which weren’t too much of a pain to get on. A mate has a Magic Mary/Minion DHR I think and hasn’t said anything about them being a struggle.

Edit: And once on the rims they went up incredibly easily tubeless, 2 wraps of gorilla tape and just the track pump was enough.

Just watched the Newsnight interview and she just looks so far out of her depth. Cringe worthy to watch someone dodge questions like that.

They’re some vintage ones, at least 2 generations old (I think m596, m615 and maybe one more since then).

I can’t see them switching back to ‘flip-flop’ ones.

    a) Shimano 9 speed road and mtb is cross compatible. So 9 speed Tiagra/Sora shifters will work fine with a 9 speed mtb rear mech.

    b) Probably not. Road and mtb levers have different pull ratios. I have a feeling you can get some sort of adapter to adjust the pull ratio but I’m not 100% on that. Avid do the BB7 calliper in two different types (road and mtb) to get round this. It might be worth setting it up and seeing how it feels to be honest.

Exactly the same problem with my P9, really annoying as it’s a great phone for everything else (had since Aug 2016). It used to cut out every ~50 mins unless you went on the app, which was annoying but not the end of the world, but after some update about 2 weeks ago it’s completely buggered. Accuracy has gone to pot and it drops GPS signal constantly, completely unusable. I’ve tried all sorts of updates, checking power savings, wiping GPS data and nothing has helped. Given up with Strava on it and I’m using an old iPhone 5C with no sim card that works perfectly.

Huge amount of thunder at about 3 in Leeds with crazy rain. Was out in the woods on the bike and got a soaking. Nice and fresh now though!

A few hours for the cups in the freezer, a wipe of grease and 10 seconds of the mallet sorted a headset earlier this week for me. Didn’t want to be splashing out on a tool I’d only use once, got to admit that I was holding my breath while wacking it though. Freezing definitely helps.

Just put up a 29er CM up tubeless yesterday on a WTB rim, went up fine with a track pump. Reasonably old tyre too.

Not El Guapo hubs, but I just got a pair of Novatec 771sb/772sb from Australia (cyclingdeal.au) for £62 posted, arrived in 6 days and are ~450g. Likely to be similar to the El Guapo hubs and I’m fairly sure they are the same as Superstar Switches. Convertible between QR and bolt thru front and rear, a bargain I reckon, might be a reasonable alternative?

Just about to click buy on one of these frames to replace my ageing and knackered Dawes commuter.

Any idea what headset I need? What diameter is the inside of the headtube?

Struggling to find any detailed specs for the frame. Ta.

Edit: Hmm, is it EC34 top and EC34/30 bottom? Confirmation of this would be great!

To add to that the gps on the phone is fine, all working accurately and as it should for other apps (Google maps/sat nav etc), it’s just Strava playing up.

It’s also never had a problem with taking photos at the same time as having strava open or running other apps with gps, so it doesn’t seem to be that.

In the last few days my Strava has gone to crap too (Huawei P9), accuracy is way off what it normally is and it’s auto pausing and not restarting. I’ve checked everything, power saving etc., and it’s all fine and as it should be but still the app is playing up. Only noticed it in the last couple of days, really very annoying.

Could it be some dodgy update/bug with the app?

I’ve been driving for 4-ish years now and only once have I filled up with diesel for less than £1/l, I think in March 2016. Lowest around is £1.127/l in Asda on the way out to the A64 in Leeds. Definitely payed over £1.30/l a couple of years ago so it’s an improvement.

Have vague memories of petrol being about 70p/l when I was really young (99/00ish).

Alpkit Arro windproof jacket. I end up sweaty in anything thicker but this is light, cheap, keeps the wind off and isn’t too hot!

A mate managed to rip a nipple and it’s washer thingy straight out of one this weekend at Inners in a small crash. Rode the rest of the weekend on it minus a spoke and with the rim bed half cracked through. He is quite light though.

L1, L2, L3 refers to the length of the van and H1, H2, H3 etc. the height, as I understand it.

    Van looking good!

Yep, direct to your bank, it’s up to you to sort out tax returns as you’re self employed.

I’m also lucky to get a tip 10% of the time. Sometimes not even a thank you!

I currently work for them a few evenings a week (student – supplementing my income) and what egb81 says about covers it. Miserable in the rain and I definitely would not want to rely on working for them full time, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a more poorly managed or unethical company at management level upwards. It works for me as a student though, and I’m averaging £8.40/hr in Leeds which is more than I’d get working in a supermarket, and it keeps me fit. Pros and cons to it, as with any job.

Fairly sure I got mine for one of those Ye Olde hardware shops that sell string, watering cans and individual nails. Someone charged me about 40p ford a yard cut off a massive dusty roll.

Yeah, it’ll all be rideable but it’ll be very wet. Most of the trails are rocky/gravel-ly, particularly up on the top.

Ventusky seems pretty decent and as scotroutes says, it allows you to view 3 different models. If they all agree there’s a fairly decent chance that what they say will happen, will actually happen.

Had some when I was younger, they were incredibly flighty. Something ate them in the end, either fox or maybe rats?

Far more successful were the Buff Rock Bantams that were raised under a heat lamp in the shed from day old chicks.
