About to drive from York to Shrops. Aircon knackered and gauge showing 30.5° still. Windows down all the way I think.

Tideace forks off AliExpress. I know it’s a risk with cheap Chinese carbon but I got a pair (non-boost though boost is available) for £70+£20 P&P. Arrived in 8 days with the express postage. Visually I can’t find any faults/anything to indicate they’re not well made. Over 400km on them in the last 3 weeks now and they ride well.

Up to you whether you take the risk with cheap direct carbon, but I’d happily but another pair.

I work near rivers in South/West Yorkshire (Ouse/Aire/Don) and it seems very prevalent this year. There’s a programme to try and get on top of it by spraying by Councils/River Stewardship.

Riding a size large at 5’11”, fits really well with a 35mm stem. Had it for about 6 months and it’s easily the best hardtail I’ve ridden, super versatile too, from steep downhill tracks to bikepacking with just a change of tyres. Best colour too with the gold glitter!

It’s a WTB tyre/Stans rim thing from experience, they’re just really tight together. I struggled with Horizons on Crests and Rangers on Flows, whereas I normally have no problem with tyres. Took an hour to get two Rangers off the Flows a couple of weeks ago, I was close to just cutting them off. Then put the Rangers on WTB i25 rims and they went on by hand in about 30s. One bonus of the ultra tight fit though is that they went up tubeless with a hand pump, but I’d have been screwed trying to fit a tube out on a ride so swapped the WTB tyres out.

I think it’s a WTB/Stans thing. I’m normally okay at getting tyres on and off but I’ve had huge battles with a Horizon/Crest combo and recently a Ranger/Flow. Took an hour to get the Ranger’s off the Flows! It’s put me off them as I’d be knackered if I ever had to put a tube in.
On the plus side they both went up tubeless incredibly easily, the Horizon’s with just a hand pump!

Ceterizine (the one in Piriton?) knocks me out by about 7/8pm if I take it, so I stick to Lotaradine and some sort of nasal spray.

I’ve had it a few times, and similarly I find I only dream/experience paralysis when I fall asleep on my back. I try to avoid it!

    Jesus.
    – I agree it needs fixing (at no point have I denied that or said that I’m not going to fix it) but I’m really struggling to see how’s it’s unsafe if I don’t let anyone ride in that seat.
    – It’s a £3k Octavia and has decent branded tyres and is well maintained mechanically. No other ‘basic problems’ have been neglected.
    – It really is a leap to think this says so much about my morals that I’d be trying to deceive a hypothetical buyer about a small fault.

Back in the real world, thanks for the more helpful replies. I’ll remove the seat back for the MOT and then next week look at sourcing a replacement belt reel or seat back.

Off-but-on topic, @superstarcomponents, while you’re on this thread, do you have an endcap that will fit a front boost V6 hub to allow using a QR boost fork? Cheers

Back on topic, I’m very happy with the V6 hubs I had built onto MK3 Flows, though I’ve only had them a month or so. Seem well made and tension/true was good.

Fancied a small frame bag for my Solaris to save using a Camelbak on shorter rides (pump/tube/tool/snacks etc.). A few hours and I’ve made this:

Got a 2009 Mk2.5 Octavia with the 2.0 CR Tdi @ 152k, had a replacement turbo about 10k ago but apart from that still runs well, though the suspension is getting tired.

I use this, slim enough to fit in the narrow cupholders in the work van, also fully turn-it-upside-down-and-shake-it leak proof. Bonus is that it fits perfectly in a bottle cage too.

Is that Nordy Bank in your second and third photo @ebygomm? Great place for flying kits with a view if so! Remember flying a large foil kite off the top as a kid and not being quite heavy enough to hold onto it properly.

Ordered a set of the 40% off wheels (a custom build not a stock on) on the evening of the 2nd, they arrived today, far quicker than I was expecting!

Set of Superstar V6 hubs with 29″ Flows for the Solaris. Just got to choose a 2.6 tyre for the front now..

Was thinking about some new wheels for the Solaris along similar lines to the OP, gone for a set of the Superstar with the discount. £245 for Sapim Race and brass nippples on 29er Flows, annoyingly no black hubs left by the time I ordered, so we’ll see what the gunmetal ones look like.

Code for Superstar is OMG40. Gives you 40% off. Eyeing up some Flows on V6 hubs for ~£245.

I’m fairly set on chucking the front triangle in the metal bin at work, it doesn’t feel right selling it on where it would potentially get ridden, given it was paid out as a write off.

Follow up question, sell the rear end as a whole or split into chainstay/seatstay/rocker? I’m not expecting hundereds but a few quid would be nice.

Sticking the rear end on eBay sounds the best plan, I wouldn’t feel comfortable riding the frame as it is and as such wouldn’t feel right selling it with the front triangle even as spares or repairs/damaged.

That photo doesn’t show quite how significant the dent is, sure you could still pedal around on it, but large jumps and drops would just be a matter of time before failure I’d assume.

I had very similar symptoms (right arm and right side of face though, not leg), in three separate ~10min episodes over three days last year  Numbness in those areas and pins and needles, but no brain fog/neurological impairment/pain. Went to the hospital after the third episode and it turns out it was a brain bleed/chronic subdural hematoma caused by a bike accident two months previous where I suffered a bad concussion, that was pushing on my brain and creating the symptoms, though they initially suspected a TIA. Had an operation to remove the clot with has fortunately left basically no lasting effects.

Get yourself to A&E asap, as said above, particularly as you mention a bad crash at BPW. Better safe than sorry, hope it turns out to be nothing to worry about!

Cotic Roadrat (1st gen?), parts bin build that’s my current town bike. Aiming for as low maintenance as possible, need to get a rear brake sorted as it’s running singlespeed.

Crests on mine too (650b with Wtb Horizons), the deal fine with the low tubeless pressures .

    29er Hardtail: 1×11 XT (11/42 with 30t)

    27.5 Full sus: 1×11 XO1 (10/42 with 32t oval)

Prefer the XT, shifting feel is nicer and I like the double upshift.

I’m getting on very well with the Horizons. Ride really well once up to speed, smooth and very comfy. Probably helped by being tubeless too. Mine are on 21mm internal Crests. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend 650b given the slightly limited clearance with 700c. Not a fast road bike but perfect for long rides on gravel/rough lanes.

I’m off this weekend to ride the Torino-Nice Rally with it, where the extra cush of the wider tyres sounds like it’ll be really welcome.

My main issue with the bike is that the headtube could do with being a little longer for all day comfort (5/6 hrs+), I’ve now got a longer fork steerer and a huge stack of spacers.

My 25l is a snug fit with my slim 17″ laptop, I’d probably size up if you’re going to be regularly carrying one.

I’ve got a set of the 34 Rhythms on a budget hardtail I’ve recently built up (the €200 ones from Germany?), and like you I’ve been very impressed full stop, let alone for the price.

Nope to the first question, no more comfortable than using m520s etc. I wouldn’t bother. Unsure on the second question.

Riding the Torino-Nice Rally in less than a month, with a great friend. Very excited and a bit nervous about the amount of climbing!

Also not much help as I no longer have the fork so can’t measure, but I had it with a 29×2.4 in and there was loads of room. I’d err on the side of a 29×3.0 fitting.

Last OTB was on the road last summer, resulting in superficial cuts to the back of my hands, arms and face because I landed still holding the bars. More to the point that meant I took almost all of the impact on my chin resulting in a severe concussion, chipped teeth and a slow brain bleed that was only discovered a couple of months later when I thought I was having a stroke, ended up needing emergency holes drilled in my head to sort that out.
