I serviced it less the 2000 miles ago and it had new Bosch plugs the so I doubt that it’ll be them. I’ll put a new fuel filter on and see if that makes a difference first.

Sorry, should have made that more clear, not at the rev limiter. Just when accelerating briskly, it’s only the 1.0 so it needs rather a lot of throttle to make it move at all.. And that’s when it’s stuttering.
In it’s defence it’s my first car and 17 years old and I’ve done 12000 miles since I got it and only replaced a couple of bulbs. Still pretty crappy though. :-)

edit: Higher in the rev range.

Entered in the Hardtail cat too, hopefully the weather will hold until Sunday and it won’t turn into a mud fest after two weeks of good weather. Looking forward to it!

I’m not going to be challenging for any podium places, that’s for sure! I’ll be going for getting round without falling off too. I’ll carry snacks and water along with spare tubes, pump and multi tool then. I’ve ridden quite a bit round Hopton and recognised quite a lot of the tracks in the videos on the Pearce website so some of it will be familiar.

I’ll give it ago with the saddle dropped, I’d rather feel more comfortable descending than have the saddle really high.

Really looking forward to it now, it’ll be good to do an event and hopefully the weather won’t be too bad! There only looked to be 15 or so people in the Hardtail cat, I’ll be riding a silver Genesis with Fox 36’s.

I live very close to the Long Mynd and I’m up there most weekends. The quickest way up from Church Stretton is Cardingmill Valley (number 10), it kicks up in steepness for the last 800m after a steady incline. The bridleway at the top of Cardingmill takes you across to Pole Bank which is the highest spot on the Mynd.

Callow Hill descent (number 9) is definetly worth doing, I think it’s better than Minton Batch and the best on the Mynd and you come out right by The Ragleth Pub in Little Stretton. :-)

Another descent that’s pretty good is following 11-12-14 down to All Stretton.

I’m running a 32t Works Components with Zee Clutch and 11-32 cassette and have yet to drop the chain once on my 140mm hardtail (which I guess gets bounced around more than fs?) And that’s with some decent downhills thrown in. The Zee mech is nice and tucked away and considerably cheaper than XT and only 12g(?) heavier. I’d thoroughly recommend it.

    Edit: No guide

As Poonprice said #9 and #7 descents are both really good. I prefer #9 of the two though.

Thanks, I’m sure it’ll be fine then. I didn’t want to apply for a new one and then end up with nothing because I imagine it takes quite a while after Christmas. Cheers

Thanks for the replies, I’m not free this week but I’ll definitely look into the ones in Stretton next week as that’s a little closer to me.

Would I be out of place on a 120mm hardtail with the Marshbrook group? I’m assuming the riding is on the Long Mynd?

Excellent, they are just what I’m looking for!

    Cheers.

As a local my favourite descent on the Long Mynd itself is 9 on the Long Mynd MTB map. It’s just as long and in my opinion better than Minton Batch. Turn left off the road 200yrds after you pass the small wood (on your right). I believe there is a post with a number 9 on. Hope this helps.

I live very close Clee Hill and if it’s the bit of track I’m thinking of I believe that it may be common land? If not then the big local land owner is the Boyne Estate. They certainly own the back side that’s covered in trees and may own the side down to the road too. It might be worth trying them. Hope this helps.

25 miles into a 30 mile road ride today, that included a descent that touched 40, while taking a minute to sit in the sun I noticed I’d completely forgotten to put the bolt that holds the non-driveside crank onto the square taper nibbin back in while cleaning and greasing last week. Somehow it managed not to fall off Cue a very gingerly pedalled last 5 miles..
Any other tales of close calls due to your own idiocy?

Why had you removed it? How did you install it if you had taken crank off?

The crank wasn’t actually removed when cleaning, I just took the bolt out to de-grit the treads and clean it as it was a little loose and completely forgot to put it back on. It’s now time to hunt through the spare bits box to try and find it.

It was indeed an issue with the bead not being properly seated. Thanks all!

Okay, I’ll give that a check in the morning and make sure the bead is on all the way round.

    Thanks.
