Eskimos, god only knows why. and mongooses, they could hypnotize you and then eat you from the feet up while you were still conscious but unable to fight back.

Now it's just power ballads that scare the crap out of me.

"and yet if people in social housing take this approach and their kids end up watching porn or horror then they're widely castigated. If someone middle class does it (and I'm guussing JW is in the latter category) they're giving their children choice."

There is a considerable difference between letting kids watch a horror or porn film unsupervised and allowing them to pick a film to watch with one of us there and to discuss what's happening in the film before afterwards and during. We don't have any big Hollywood (as they tend to be rather dull and predictable)splatter or porn films knocking about for them to watch anyway.

Tonight we're watching Danny Boyle's "millions" if that's any help. My wife works in Film making so we tend to watch a lot (5 to 10 a week) of films at home.

    That's it really 🙂

I used to have a fiat X19 Bertone which gave me constant electrical grief, including the headlights opening and closing at random and a dodgy starter motor.

When I contacted the owners club to try and get a plausible wiring diagram, they pissed themselves laughing and suggested that I start all over again as the diagrams they have only actually apply to the cars it was taken from, as they tended to be wired with whatever was lying around the Bertone bit of Fiat's factory.

Mind you, at least it didn't have electrics by Joe "Prince of Darkness" Lucas.

I always used to smack the solenoid with a shifting spanner before turning the key.:)

"Jahwoble. Are you sue Fear and Loathing is suitable for his age?"

Yup, I read it at about that age, All three kids are allowed to pick up and read any books we have in the house and he's quite capable of putting it into context. We've been doing that with films and books for him since he was about three or four.

He's quite capable of making decisions and differentiations about right and wrong and understands the difference between fiction and reality. According to the his school his reading age is 16 plus and he's bored witless by most books written for teenagers.:)

We liked the idea of them and we found that re-usables were great if you found ones that fitted the particular shape of your baby. Otherwise it gets out from everywhere and just makes a right bl**dy mess and still quite a lot of hard work.

Possibly better for an older child than a new born maybe?

My ten nearly eleven year old read Coraline at about 7 and reckoned it was fine, he's just finished Huxley's Brave New World and Matheson's I Am Legend. Next week he's got some comics an Alex Ryder to read, and has decided to give Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas a go.

Got to push their reading a little bit I reckon or they'll grow up never really pushing what they can read and understand.

might just be me that though 🙂

And the US certainly knew, as IBM were supplying the punch card data technology that made it all relatively easy to keep track of it all.Even supplying the Riech with cards and equipment through foreign subsidiaries and servicing the equipment up till late 1944.

The Wehrmacht, played an active role on the Ostfront, rounding Jews, communists, and "saboteurs" (and, well anybody else they didnt like the look of really up)lending logistical support to Einsatz Kommando groups(who they had already seen operating in Poland against Jews and intelligentsia). Even providing trucks and firing squads on hundreds of well documented occasions, and committed many atrocities under the umbrella coverage of the Barbarossa Decree and Commissar orders of March '41.

Merc, the construction quality and the detailing is really good, I've got quite broad shoulders and chest, but slim hips and waist and I'm 5'7". I've got about seven or eight of their shirts and they are a good untucked fit. For dress shirts, try Ted Baker, I've got a few of them as well…….

Merc shirts generally from about 40/60 quid and Ted Baker from about the same, maybe a little higher.:)

I'm sat here now wearing a seiko no5 21jgt5 with a 6119 self winding movement, made in 1970 for my dad.Had it serviced about ten years ago.Been fine. love it. would happily buy a new seiko except my thirty nine year old one is still going strong and seems to be pretty much indestructible, so I dont really need to.

"But aren't many of the components of these theories hypotheticals which, with our current technology and understanding, cannot be experimentally verified ?"

If you are talking about elementary derivation of the equivalence of mass and energy, to a degree the Lorentz transformation and absolutely velocity,(which I was) no they are pretty much all proven with approximately 100 years of supporting repeated observation and evidence, which is about as confirmed as you can get, and more than good enough for me to work with:)

"Perhaps we do 'know it all' and really can't travel at the speed of light, or perhaps we think we know it all, but we don't know jack."

We can't travel at the speed of light or faster. Simple as, this isn't supposotion, shamanism, superstition or sci-fi plot hole filling. This is fact. To do so would require an infinite amount of energy, and no matter how much we can produce or how cleverly we can produce it. it wouldn't be enough as we can't produce an infinite amount. Whether people understand the math and the theory and believe that or not is an irrelevance, it's true.:)

"Maths and Physics are in no way consolidated and defined."

Actually, if you understand energy mass equivalency, and this is what we are talking about with light speed or faster than travel. This is experimentally extremely well supported. then physics is pretty much as well consolidated and verified as it can be, The laws of physics wont change simply because of your race and location within a 4d space time universe.

So, no you can't travel at the speed of light or above.Any talk of traveling through wormholes etc. is just Star trek style nonsense.

Whether or not alien life exists is however an entirely separate issue:)
