    Actually, I'd say:

    1) Put a rolled up towel round the bottom of the fridge.

why would you put the wheel in the forks before fitting the forks?

So that you can use it like a paint roller to leave tyre marks on the ceiling to baffle visitors.

For beginners a decent multitool, tyre levers and a pump is all they're likely to need.

I've often wondered why no-one makes any forks with a girvin vector type design any more. Light, stiff and easy to maintain. Would be even better with a modern air shock.

    They do.

    🙂

Would like them a lot more if the fork legs observed a more regular angle of rake, and had trailing dropouts like the old Vectors. They look a little crash damaged as they currently are.

TV boxsets are the way forward for viewing while out of action.

Try Boston Legal. It's a pure joy to behold.

My one time passion for cars has wained over the past couple of years, and so this has come as a total shock. I can't beleive they've been so bold with the XJ. Wow. Only feels like a few months since they released the last update.

or had the wheels off the grounds (no more than 1.5-2.00 m though).

If you're getting the bike 2 meters in the air, I'd suggest your riding is pretty far removed from what most people – especially manufacturers – would consider XC.

I had it, exactly same situation as you – had a friend of the family looking for someone to practice on and as I have a faily incurable knackered leg and resulting other ailments she was keen to get me involved.

To be honest I did try to go in with an open mind but found it hard not to be a bit cynical about it and think it a lot of hippy crap, especially the talk about energy channels and stuff. The actual treatment is very minimal – a few applications of pressure at various points around your body basically, like a sort of minimal massage. And I had no faith in it’s ability to replace damage cartilage and heal shagged tendons. I was right to think that.

    BUT…

What I did find is that the whole experience, in all it’s hippy holistic glory, was extremely relaxing. And total relaxation isn’t something I experience very often being a tightly wound type of chap.

I found that quite helpful. When you’ve got a bit of funny posture cos of an injury or whatever, I think you can end up quite tense and uncomfortable without really realising, and the Bowen treatment opened up a world of relaxation for me that I’d forgotten existed.

And that relaxed state allows a refreshed mind. I found it a bit like hitting reset when your computer is running slowly. And when you feel better in your head, you feel better in your body. And then your osteo-arthritis or whatever doesn’t seem so bad.

The way I see it, it’s all in the head. But if you’re alright accepting that, then it’s a well worthwhile treatment.

    VTs are good bikes.

Mine is still going strong after 5 years and still feels great. Not the stiffest thing in the world I suppose, but for £300… And the suspension is great. Similar setup to those low-bb’d French things everybody bangs on about.

when you fall off a mountain, damn nearly die, and she can’t be bothered to pick you up at the airport when you get back.

    Haha, that sounds familiar.

Mine dumped me via text the moment I switched my phone back on after having spent 4 days in hospital having my leg surgically put back together 🙂

I was thinking the same thing this morning.

I left the house to begin my cycle commute but just had to grab something out of the boot of my car, so stood the bike up aganst the car while I fannied around in the boot. A slammed the boot shut again and locked the car and noticed the bar had gouged the paint off where it had been leant.

I rode off amused at how little I cared.

jackthedog – if you’re central check out thefitnessclubcentral above the graduate on Surrey Street. I used to do pilates there on a Wednesday lunchtime. The Gym doesn’t look much but its small and very friendly. Christine, the instructor / owner is ace, too. Here she is.

Looks like an interesting place, cheers for the link.

Yep, that’d be me (thanks again for those!). I do pilates and yoga classes at the S10/Goodwin gym in Broomhill. The pilates teacher was fantastic but unfortunately it was her last class last week, so i’m not sure what the new one will be like. Jenn who does yoga on wednesday evenings is totes awesome though.

Cheers for the info. I’ve been fancying pilates for a while and been wondering where to look. I’ll investigate further.

Could be worse, you could do what my friend did in her rented bungalow and reverse a Land Rover into the house, pushing the water pipe through the wall with the spare tyre and shoving the toilet cistern off it’s mountings, shattering it on the floor and leaving bright blue water over the entire bathroom.

As we’ll probably only have a one day “free pass” from the missus I think the Peaks might be too much of an ask this time, but it’s fuel for thought. Having never ventured into the Peak district then I’d be looking for info here too.

It’s not much more than an hour or so in the car, perfectly doable. I live on the edge of the Peak and for a change of scenery we did Sherwood Pines a few months ago. Up early, drive down, two laps of the kitchner trail including a short play in that freeride park area and drive back – we were home for about 2pm. If you’ve got all day and access to the car, you could get out for a decent peak ride, easy.
