Try a career in Engineering and you'll do 8 to 6 + overtime!

Hmmm, and I though we did software development here I didn't realise we were qualified Engineers. My mistake

Pah, I work in software development and it's 8am-9pm 7 days a week as standard, extending to 8am – 3am and beyond at crunch time, all overtime hours (ie outside 9-5 mon-fri) unpaid.

And crunch time can last months.

    I kid you not.

Of course it can. You confusing cool with rare.

I'm not sure, unless you can give us an example of something that is both cool and common.

The only bike I can think of that has any place on the cool wall is the Yuba Mundo.

One of my all time favourites, a masterpeice of film making in my opinion.

The acting, the heist, that final scene – that combination of Pacino's face and God Moving Over The Face Of The Water, it stays with me. What a moment.

    Jackthedog – also welcome along.

Dammit!! Only just checked the forum!

Thanks for all the offers. I'm touched.

I bet you are. I asked for some new Peak-based riding buddies the other week and was met with little more than utter dismissal.

Not that I've been reading this thread with jealousy or anything. No, not me…

Although I first saw that video when I was taking my dinosaur for a walk or some other such sarcastic phrase, it has to be said – blimey, the guy is handy on a bike.

When I watch his videos, I feel inadequate, and then I start to see why girls get eating disorders and want boob jobs and liposuction etc after being rasied on a diet of Cosmo, Heat and Gok chuffin Wan.

It doesn't look to have changed in the last 5 years or so apart from a few yards that used to get ridiculously muddy (near the mast) has been graded or surfaced or whatever since it became a restricted byway.

    I see.

What do you use it for? Free parking? You don't ahve to pay to ride Dalby, surely?

Maybe gentle(ish) sessions on the recumbent exercise bikes at the gym would keep things moving in the knee department.

Whatever you like really. Depends what ratio you want to run.

I'm facing a similar solution (I use the term loosely) for my knackered ankle, so can sympathise fully. Let us know how you get on when the time comes.

Do you know if they'll do the op under local or general?

May I suggest we invent a MTB version of radball called gnarball?

Radball – good god. Sam's right you know, check out the youtube vids. Bleedin eck.

I've been wanting a go at that for ages. Would have to get a fixed wheel for my bike but it looks like a laugh.

For once, this is a bit of suggested banning I agree with.

In my line of work I'm occassionally involved with this kind of thing, and you wouldn't believe some of the 'enhancemements' we are requested to make to pictures of certain people before they're allowed into the public domain.

    It's quite sickening.

Stretch a section of old innertube over the seatclamp.

Pete, how much have you actually ridden the 'Rat? You may just need some time to adapt to the "large" feeling of a road bike.

FWIW I'm the same height and ride a small 'rat. It might just be too big a bike.

Although what do you carry your hydration in? If you don't have a camelbak then surely you're using bottles, in which case you could have a bottle boss mounted pump without too much fuss as bottles in the frame look abhorrent anyway.

Get one of those tiny lezyne pumps and carry it, along with a compact puncture repair kit, in your pocket.

I reckon there's a fair market for that kind of stuff.

As much as I hate to even mention never mind recommend it, ebay would be the best bet for something like that.

Dug out my original bullhorn thread from a few months ago when I was experimenting, just for further reading.

Ended up running SS in the end so never had the gear issues to worry about. Might try it at some point though.

Hi-lift jacks are a handy thing to have for this kind of thing. Just be careful, they're more dangerous than nitroglycerin.

    I like the logic.

"Hey, stop riding there, it's dangerous. I better shoot you in the head to stop you"

How cheap are you going to look if you give someone two £10 vouchers rather than a £20?

You joke about it, but from my auntie I once received:

    1x £10 voucher
    1x £5 voucher
    2x £2 voucher
    1x 98p in change

Wharny is pretty far removed from a trail centre, it's all a bit less organised (which I personally like). Very rooty, rocky, off camber and tricky in places so a 6 inch travel bike won't be wasted (it's what I ride).

It turns into a quagmire quite quickly so it helps if you're okay with mud. Also at the moment a couple of sections of trail have fallen victim to the forestry work, and a lot is overgrown with bracken.

It's not that easy to find all the good stuff without local assistance but there are lots of good trails, particularly DH stuff. Steve Peat learnt his trade in them there woods.

Our regular XC route seems to take about an hour and half or so, taking in a few DH sections.

As for parking, to be honest I think it's better to park outside the Pheasant pub in Oughtibridge for the simple reason that you finish the ride with a big cruise downhill rather than a long slog of a climb 🙂

Crikey, you drove from Buckingham? Hope it was worth the trek 🙂

I'm not online outside working hours so never revisted the thread.

I nipped up for a couple of hours yesterday – unfortunately it appears the forestry work has killed a couple of sections, and it was horrendously wet in places, so the place certainly wasn't at it's best.
