How many of you ride with a pen and paper?

Can’t say I do, don’t think they’d be to happy if I scratched my number into the paint work with my multi tool.

The maintenance part is one element but there is just something simple about SS bikes, no ‘right’ gear to be in, just pedal and you do the rest!

As you are in the same gear all the time you know when to pedal hard and when to rest, use your fitness and power to get up hills, pedal quicker at the bottom and keep the same speed all the way up.

Advantages over a geared bike is simpilicy and weight I guess. I had always ridden ‘geared’ bikes until I made a road bike with a fixed gear which I loved so decided to build a ss mtb and love it.

Very easy to convert, you’ll need a SS chain tensioner, a ss cassette conversion kit (spacers and a single speed cog) and a single chain ring up front. If buying second hand will cost about £20 – £30 quid, If buying new £30 – £50 depending on where you buy from.

Here’s my Love / Hate enjoying the snow!! I had no issues with anything freezing other than my toes but that would happen on any type of bike 😉

Thanks for that Stoner, so reading between the lines it’s down to the company we signed through and luckily for them nothing to do with Orange!

I guess I will have to proceed with chasing the company then. Strangly in the past I have had 2 games consoles, a micro scooter and cash back all delivered with a contract like this. I didn’t think this was a too good to be true offer!!

I went to pull out and saw a car coming so stopped but the car clipped my wing / bumper then it swerved, mounted a cycle / walk path and knocked over one of those plastic reflective bollard things. His air bags went off and his car was a bit of a mess, police turned up, took statements etc. Police basically said it was an accident (I was all above board with the car, tax, insurance etc.) When I spoke to my insurance company they said it was a no brainer that it was my fault and would sort everything. They also asked if I wanted to know the total outcome of it all!

The private school I work for is still open 🙁 I’ve got a 30min drive to work and managed it. We have about 150 boarding students so as such the school can’t close although there is enough on-site staff to keep them sorted.

Although we had about 300 kids with blue hands after massive snow ball fights at break time trying to write with pens afterwards!! Was great though to see the kids playing and I did think it would be cool for them to be at home and able to play in it all day (nothing about having the day off so I can go riding).

I spoke to TF regarding this as I wanted to do it and apparently you can not convert Airs into Coils but you can the other way around.
The coils have a groove or something slightly different to do with the coil u-turn minside which the airs don’t have so you convert coils to airs but not the other way round! Best bet would be to find someone who wants to swap coils for air.

I’ve got a rear Halo wheel on my SS road bike link here:
    Chainreactioncycles

Pretty strong, much better than the chocolate front wheel I currently have (vuelta or something) and will replace with a halo one when I have the cash.

Wiggle also sell the Charge wheelsets now – purple ones are a bit mmmmmmm and aren’t bad at about £150 for the pair.

I was on a local ride once and came down a track to find a horse rider completely out of control with her horse (well spooked before I even arrived). I stopped a little way back, saw she was struggling and offered some help to which I got told she didn’t need any help. I stood there out of the way giving her time to control her horse. After a few minutes of her not being able to control it and nearly being bucked off the horse I got a load of abuse from being there and that I should go and hide in a bush as I was causing the problem. I told her politly that I was NOT hiding in a bush and walked back up the path out of sight and waited there. A few minutes later the rider and horse came up, she stopped and tried to give me more abuse to which I replied ‘Your horse isn’t scared of me now and I am not doing anything different, I think you should learn to control your horse in a paddock first before taking it out on public paths’ – I won’t repeat the mouthful of abuse I recieved and I just continued on my way.

Most of the horse riders round my way have a big chip on their shoulder and if you are nice to them or rude you’ll end up with the same abuse.
