I hate to plug but if the shoe fits…..

Soma For Sale

*** EDIT ***

I am 5’8 (just) and have a medium Planet X XLS so I recon a large would possibly suit you better.

I don’t use on-one that much, just odds and sods really. The other day I was taken by their cheap ESI grips and ordered 2 pairs. When they arrived there was no bar end plugs (expected the goldie ESI ones) so dropped on-one an email saying ordered 2 pairs, didn’t come with the bar ends etc. etc. anyway get an email back, very sorry send you out some.

A few days later I get the worst, rubbishy, cheapy non ESI bar end plugs turn up – one pair – not 2 but 1- for 2 pairs of grips that I ordered – FFS!

I have some on my Soma, they are OK, can’t compare to other mechanical brakes as these were my first. I get some pulsing when lightly braking which I think is down to the rotors not being 100 % true and they are easy to lock up with good range of power.
They are heavy too but on a whole are better in those ‘oh $hit’ situations like when the car in front decides to stop before driving over a level crossing on a steep hill!

So recently we have had:
Sun was in my eyes
I was looking at a lorry on the other side of the road (for more than 8 seconds)
I was part of a funeral precession

However you can jump into the water and stop a boat race and end up in more trouble…

The next thing we’ll get is ‘I am a hired hitman and hit him off his bike to kill him’ – OK sir don’t do it again, spend a morning with tea and coffee and a few powerpoint slides and you can be on your way.

This country is ****ed up.

Pieface that is a nice stove!

The clothes, trainers and deo were ‘extras’ as I was walking / visiting family in Charmouth.

I also have a cross bike which I think I will use next time, just need to get a decent rack for that one, then any off road tracks can also be explored!

The camp site was this one:
http://www.westoverfarmcottages.co.uk

The giant ‘cork screw’ is a ground anchor for a dog lead, however you can screw it into the ground and lock your bike to it if you don’t have a solid object to lock it too. Not the most secure way but another hurdle should someone try it on in the middle of the night!!!

Not sure on the rack – think it was a Lidi special as was the pannier bags.

As for campsite -> 8 quid for the night with running water etc. wasn’t too bad. Could also leave my stuff there whilst I walked to Charmouth and not worry.

Wild camping will come – in time 😉

I got the Zee mech and matching shifter – so nice and they work, no if buts or maybes and at a price I could justify.

I deemed never to step foot in my LBS after they delayed and delayed a simple quick wheel tension. When I complained I got told that as I hadn’t bought a bike from him he didn’t prioritise my job and put mine to the back. It wasn’t the first job that had been delayed either.

Silly fool failed to realise that 2 people I knew bought bikes from him from my recommendation to use him.

I have recently bought a new bike from a brand he stocks, bought it online though so his narrow minded customer service meant I would NEVER buy anything from him again.

My bike was stolen off the back of a car last year, outside my friends house, in broad day light, in Bristol 🙄

It was covered under my home insurance (M&S) -made my premiums go up mind you!

I think I had the one of the last mediums (26er) in the country last sat, Tredz checked stock and couldn’t get anymore 😥

Awesome bike though – well happy with mine 🙂

I have had success with the pop it in the freezer for a few hours trick. Got an hour out of a dead drive enough to recover some photos for a friend once.

Yeah what lucine said. Forks are post mount so you need a post to post mount in your disc size (180mm?)
On the rear, you need an IS to post mount adaptor however you have one already on the brakes.
Why won’t the disc brake bolt onto the silver brake mount on the frame??

They could hardly call it ‘CRC’ – would have to paint it blue and yellow then 🙂

Hmm this is an interesting thread.

Our 4 yr old is desperate to have a dog, I am quite keen but the wife has a real phobia of dogs which I think will help if we get one (a puppy).

However one of my arguments ‘for’ getting a dog is that our life style is being outdoors tand we love camping so the dog would love doing that too.

Might have to back track on that one 😉

What I can’t work out is that how it took 6 months of emailing for those questions when I had a quick glance on their website it seemed to answer most of them for you.

Sorry but you seem like one of those customers that spend more time asking questions and talking about buying a bike than the ones that actually do.

Have you not read up about all these Ti frames cracking and not covered under lifetime warranties??

Lol rumbled.

Excuse me mister, got any free stickers?

Most companies selling over the Internet try to channel questions back through the website as they try and cover all information on there and not employ pre sales people answering questions on what size bike do i need or do you sell it in another colour.

Whereas the likes Trek who have pre sales people / reps etc. can answer pre sales questions better.

However once you have bought something from them, they will normally deal with you much better.

If you have been delayed so long, why don’t you just cancel?

I think the ones who make proper money have their money in other interests, Peaty started Royal, Cedic has his money in other stuff (I thought it was a bar / club). However there was a story about when Palmer came on the scene he helped Peaty get a good deal from GT all those years back.

I recon top pros with factory teams are on a good whack with good bonuses and winnings – TAX free?

Look at the money Red Bull are flashing at the moment, heli drops etc. Each major sponsor could pay reasonable a wage but then times that by 5/6 – clothing, bike, forks, components, goggles, helmet, protection, tyres – all sell products off the back of race / media coverage.

Just thought of another, mrs jackass one morning had let the cats out and hadn’t shut the front door enough for the catch to click, after her shower she realised that her underwear was on the dryer downstairs, as she passed the front door with only a towel on her head, the postman pushed the mail through the letter box and the front door swung open. The misses screamed trying to grab the towel from her head and cover her bits and the postman just gave a cheery ‘morning’ and carried on down the front of the houses.

Used to date a girl who’s parents were cool about me kipping on the daughters floor for the night, so much so, her mum used to bring us a cup of tea in the morning.

One morning I was asleep and her mum stepped over me to put the teas on the bedside cabinet, in doing so I woke and as I opened my eyes I got a full view up her nighty

Needless to say she was no milf and I quickly closed my eyes and tried to forget.

Me and the daughter finished shortly after that

I bought quite a lot last year, really nice kit actually. Pad is good and fit is spot on for tight fitting lycra.

Just gone off the idea of trying to look like a pro this year!

About to post some long sleeved medium stuff for sale if interested….

I found my DH / Trail jumping skills came on after practising first at those small BMX tracks in parks and then on the ‘chicken’ line at my local proper DJ set.

Air time is also about confidence and being relaxed in the air and not going stiff ‘dead sailoring’ mid air which comes with practice.

Stay loose on run, naturally centred on bike, as you hit the take off ramp start to shift weight back and pull up on bars s the bike launches into the air, lift your legs up to bring the rear wheel up and the bike level in the air, if hitting a down ramp, spot your landing and point the front of the bike down into the ramp. Keep some bend in your arms and legs ready to take impact of landing and absorb it.

If you want to style your flight do so as you bring your legs up to level the bike out, get it down early, hold the style for as long as you dare and then prepare landing.

I’ve just bought some Hayes CX 5s, with CRC code they were about 45 each end.

Preferred the look of the Hayes over the BBs and read only Shimano *700 (5700,6700 etc) STIs work with their disc calipers and I have 6600s.

Once the bike is built I shall do a full low down….

I am currently debating the same and the Hayes CX 5s are favourite at the mo.

With the Shimano ones, be aware that they changed the lever ratio in the brake levers on the #700 series (5700, 6700 etc.) and the new calipers are designed to work with this higher ratio so may feel spongy with standard road brakes.

What you have to also remember is that it isn’t solely a Thomson product. They out sourced the internals so they could concentrate on the externals.

Can’t remember who but a suspension manufacturer I think has made the internals.

We had stuff go missing at work and it got worse and worse, dewalt drills, laptops, money etc. etc. Then someone said a friend of a friend had seen one of the cleaners trying to sell the stuff down the pub. We got the police involved who ended up doing a raid on Christmas Day. However nothing was found. After the raid he phoned in, gave a load of abuse about mistrust, ruining his Christmas etc. and told us to sick the job as he didn’t want to work with a company who didn’t trut him. However a the thefts stopped after he left!

On the practical joke side. My wife and I once called in at my parents house and they were out and for some reason we thought it would be funny to change all the clocks in the house an hour forward. They never realised for ages and were getting confused as to why all the tv program’s were wrong and only clicked when the 9 o’clock news came on at ten.

I listen to music so can never hear the bike, funny though when you get one of those tracks that has the long silence and then a little bit of music / talking at the end and during that silence I hear all sorts of creaking but always forget by the end of the next track!

Yeah no lacquer, every time it got a bit faded (which wasn’t very often) I just whipped over it with the wire wool!

I will also say, with the grey giant graphic on the down tube it looked awesome, ah miss my trance…..

Jackass123456789

I did my trance a while back. Nitromors is rubbish now, I took mine back to the shop for a refund as it didn’t do what it said on the tin. That was after night after night of trying and only lifting the lacquer.

In the end I went to my local car paint supplier and bought some car paint stripper and wow what a difference! Bubbled instantly and I got more done in a hour than what I’d done in 3 nights with mors.

Here’s mine, finished with wire wool:

I used to have some Hayes Stroker jobbies on my bike and one day we rigged up a camera to the bike that was looking behind and a mate and I raced down our favorite trail. On reviewing the footage I noticed how ‘on’ or ‘off’ my Hayes brakes were and that the rear wheel was locking up all the time.

I then swapped them out for a set of SLX servo’s and wow, what a difference. I now have them and some XTs on all my bikes. Never need any work and if they do, I can never be bothered and my LBS charge peanuts to re-bleed them as they are so easy.

I was there selling my wares and made enough £££ to warrant the trip up from Yeovil (and to do some riding).

Thanks for organising a good jumble and if I brave another trip to Bristol I would certainly do it again.

Mine was the other bike on the rack, brand new Cube Reaction GTC Pro – less than a month old and VERY gutted. I know it does’t make up for the fact it’s gone but sometimes it’s nice to think you’ll get new for old on the insurance and that can be a very dim light at the end of a long tunnel but for me mine was brand new and I had just set it up to the way I like it with slightly wider bars, my own pedals, my saddle bag etc. etc. 🙁

Hadn’t even had chance to take a proper pic but heres one from Friday evening:

fae88400-1330-42ad-b9f1-2e33f07e3f3b by Jackass123456789, on Flickr

Bike was standard except for:
Wider Syntace handlebars
Time Atac pedals
Specialized saddlebag with Topeak pump, multitool and patches, inner tube with masking tape to keep it from unravelling and 3 tyre levers.
2 Elite white bottle cages.
I had also removed the bar ends
