    Thanks for the replies.

Yes spooky, that’s the one I’m looking at too. TBH I’m looking to burn mostly wood so would probably benefit from the wood burning kit, it still running ok? Did you fit a liner in the end and did it make a big difference?

I think the cheapest I’ve found it online is £375, the aga appears to be around £550….

Oh and of course don’t bother with your local shoe repair/market stall etc, you want the pukka Casio adaptors (if avail) and a nice NATO/Zulu of the correct width to suit…….
Let us know how you get on.

Search NATO/Zulu g-shock strap adaptors (even though yours isn’t a g-shock), I think one off a DW5600/6900 ‘may’ fit, but you’ll have to do some google work to check. If you get some adaptors sorted its a case of fitting any NATO/Zulu of choice. Timefactors.com would be a good place to order the strap from, and have a great forum (tz-uk)….

Classic scam, for some reason t4/t5’s seem to attract no end of these. It’s quite sad that some people probably do fall for these…..

As said if it’s been properly looked after and runs well, then I would. My current mk4 golf 130 (pd engine) has just shy of 170k on it and pulls extremely well.
Has it had a recent clutch/flywheel?

I’ve got a pair of the big dh inner tubes suitable for 3″ tyres in the garage still,I’m sure they don’t weigh far off the weight of a decent tyre. I might weigh one later.

I’ll second LS’s recommendation of the old poets in Ashover, I’m in there most weeks either post ride or with the mutt, excellent selection of real ales (and 2 other pubs in the village). Not sure how many the cottage sleeps though.
Also, as said, literally ride straight out the car park onto the trails…

    Sunday morning?
Pretty sure it was a pal of mine, shaved head, on a bright green trek?
He was out with 3 other lads whom I ride with a fair bit…. He’s managed to put a break in his pelvis but doing well, cheers n thanks for asking

I recently purchased an Atera Strada DL3, seems a great bit of kit, and sturdy enough, I’ve only had a couple of bikes on it so can’t comment on what it’s like with 3 or 4 on though.
I needed one that tilted as in some vehicles stuff isn’t accessible from inside without the rear hatch open :D

I’m having this exact same problem too. Will be swapping to a medium cage Slx soon I think.

Flashband is what a lot of the t4 owners use. I did my wheel arches in it, and put the odd patch in the lower panels to try and stop the drumming/resonance noise. I can’t really comment on how much the Flashband helped on its own as I insulated and ply/carpet lined at the same time….

Looking at the reach measurements the scalps come up quite short compared to the torque. I went for a pulse in the end which are a bit longer than the scalp, I still had to go for a large though (just under 5’10”). Don’t you fancy a yt tues?

Thanks for the heads up. Just a quick question, how do you get the BC discount, is it show your card in store or can it used online somehow?

The one I found on amazon stated ‘usually delivered within 1 – 3 months’, I’d rather order off loco if that’s the case…

Soooooo, finally getting round to doing this.
Anyone know where these are readily available by any chance? I spoke to loco earlier (and was very helpful) but he hasn’t got one and none in stock with the supplier until the end of April….

It makes putting the wheel back in a lot easier.
I don’t think there’s any stiffness benefit compared to 135x12mm bolt thru as the hub is the same….

I just risk it if going out localish for between 1 – 1.5hrs, as in no camelbak or bottle (you should be able to last an hour without a drink) no tubes, pump etc. Just a small multitool a spare quick link and my phone in my pocket (and a tenner for the pub of course). It feels great, I love riding without that weight strapped to my back and you’ve got the added excitement of if you get a flat your walking home, which I have of course

For longer and more remote rides, yes, I can’t seem to get away from needing one even though I think it negatively affects my riding. What other options are there? How good’s that dakine pack mentioned above? Looks a little bulky to me….

Is it a once use only thing or can I split my order and use it multiple times (I’m guessing no)…..?

Finally put it together yesterday morning (yes I need to cut the brake hoses) after being sat in the garage for 4 months, built up with left over over parts from previous bikes….

Not sure how you ride it with levers at that angle.
    Nice bike though.

Does it feel nice to ride, that’s the main thing.

The snap on one is 10x better than the cheap halfords one, I’d say get the best you can, secondhand if it needs to be.

Loctite bearing retainer. I had an old pair of domains that was like this due to the headset seizing and the crown race rotating on the steerer. The Loctite sorted it no probs. Standard superglue would do it I suppose, but as said once it’s all nipped up it shouldn’t be a problem.

You don’t actually ‘need’ that part if your referring to item 4 in the diagram above…

Get the smallest bike that fits. It’s easy to resize a smaller bike, much more difficult to resize a bike too large as once stem drops below 90mm handling tends to suffer whether climbing or more interestingly descending where steering feels too sharp and front wheel too light.

I played with 75 and 80mm stems on my 54cm tarmac and found them detrimental to handling, with 75 I would catch my shorts on tip of saddle when moving to stand up off saddle

Cheers esher, that’s just the sort of advice I’m after.
Its totally at odds with my mtb experiences, I’m now running the shortest stem I can (well always did on the dh bike), with a longer top tube as it’s better for DH and will still climb. A longer stem = better for climbing not descending in my mtb head….

    Thanks for that esher.

Well I’ve just (re)tried measuring my inseam again (its a 2 person job!), with a spirit level this time and not as much upward pressure. I’m coming out at 33″ inseam, I assume that’s more in keeping with my height.

    Just measured up my current cx bike (ridley xbow);

    Top tube c-c = 53cm
    HT length = 130mm
    Seat tube c-c = 52cm
    Seat tube c-t = 55.5cm
    Stem length = 110cm
    Standover = 805mm
BB centre to saddle top = 760mm

On a road bike top tube length is what to look for IMHO.
Do you have long arms/reach? If so, the 56cm should be fine, if not then I’d go more typically and say 54cm.

Yes tt length was what I would be basing it on. What would you class as long arms/reach, and how would I go about measuring it.?

I’ll nip and measure the cx bike in a bit, ideally I ‘think’ I’d like a little more reach than my current cx if its for pure road use, is this correct?

What are the overall pro’s/con’s of a slightly shorter or slightly longer frame when it comes to a road bike (eg. how does it affect the handling, climbing, descending etc)?

As the other thread makes pretty clear, you’ll be after a 58 in the Cube.

Yes, but its the specialized I’m going for :-)

And yes I’m buying new, been recommended two different sizes by two different shops up to now.
I’ve also sat on both sizes and can’t really decide, I could imagine riding both to be honest (neither felt outrageously small/large).

I’ve already used a paintable rubber damp proof membrane on the walls and first 6″ of the floor

Which one did you use by the way? I’m just doing my utility and in a similar position to yourself.

    Cheers lads.
Anyone got the budget spec tarmac I’m refering to above?

Al, I think the cubes come up a little short/small for their size, I’ll have to check up on it again (I’ve looked at that many geometry charts of late)…

Hmm, I’ve been with aviva for last 2 year, my bikes are covered in house/garage and away from home, only up to 2.5k tho iirc. My premium is around £400 per year. Was with m&s before but it just got too expensive.

What would be the lever operated dropper of choice then?
I’m thinking of getting a cheap(ish) one to go on the hardtail (already got a reverb on the t’other bike).

The dropzone above and the x-fusion appear to be the cheapest at around £140, any other lever only options?

    jackal

    Doh.
I’ve still mailed you about the reverb though.

Oh, the mounting broke too and it’s held on with some 3 core flex and tie wraps if you look closely.
