Best full fingers you can get (oooerr  )
Used sidewinders for years, until I tried these about 4 or 5 years ago, and I'm on my third pair now, nice and thin, and a perfect fit.

    Dot 5.1 higher boiling point.
Dot 5.1 and 4 are interchangeable, but it's good practice to flush all the old stuff out anyway.
    It's dot 5 that's not compatible with 5.1 or 4 I seem to remember.

I think thats damn good service from specialized.
The chainstay cracking on that model of enduro is a well known fault and i thought specialized modified the chainstays for latter years.
I've never had a specialized though, far too many pivots for me

Besides, 12 years of Oranges and I've never broken one…

Now oranges on other forums (ahem) have a 'crack and fail' reputation, i owned a big T for a few years and never cracked that, nor have i seen a cracked orange frame in the flesh, but some people are too easily swayed by forum scaremongers/brand haters.

Most bike manufacturers will have frames break/crack/fail at some point, it just depends how well they deal with it.

Big thumbs up there then, makes a nice change doesn't it to receive 'proper' customer service.
I've been thinking about getting one for a while now, but been put off by reliability issues, this sways me even more towards one tho.

Just got back from an out patient visit to the hospital.
Looks like i'll be able to start work again and more importantly start riding again, after over 3 months away from both.

Name and shame and they shouldn't debit the card until the goods are posted to you.

Yep come on name and shame, poor service/practice that is.
Theres only certain mail order companies i'll use/trust, and if i'm in a particular hurry for something then i'll ring to make sure they can get it to me in time.

    have you ridden a BFe, it's isn't what you'd call subtle…

    erm….

    Cotic Bfe.
I've used mine for xc/dh/jumping about duties, perfect.

Of course it depends on what material/manufacturing process/frame design etc how 'forgiving' a frame is, irrelevant of material. But, i'd say the Bfe is no where near as harsh as any alu frame i've owned or ridden, but it didn't feel as springy/forgiving as a cotic soul i had a spin on, obviously.

Now, comparing a steel frame and an alu frame that are both designed for a similar purpose as we are here (in this case general hooning around on) and are of similar strength, then the steel frame is going to be more forgiving to ride than the alu frame.

EDIT, wasn't trying to say the chameleon was a bad choice btw, i'd have one no probs, proper do it all bike :D

    Another vote for Chameleon.

Yep very versatile bikes, buttttt, i'd deffo be looking for a steel frame instead of an alu one, much more forgiving.

Saying that if your not bothered about steel look at the marin rocky ridge, nice and slack, compact and strong. I'd imagine you can get a second hand full bike pretty cheap (about £1100 brand fire new) off ebay or the likes.

Does it have to be new?

If your interested in second hand then, get a prophet mx. 140mm travel, 65.5 degree HA in its slackest setting and 12mm bolt thru rear. Perfect.
I just picked up my as new mx3 full bike for £660.

    solid blade, 130-160mm travel.

I think theres talk of some different linkage plates to slacken the HA by 1 degree as well.

I just thought it meant you were a hard old b*stard, at least it is with all the people round here with 'em, along with tears tattoed down your cheek (which i thought was a sign of doing some time)…

    ROFL.

So, whats your verdict on the van R now then, is it worth the money/extra weight?

What spring weight have you gone for (and erm, 'roughly' how much do you weigh)…?

judicious use of a file on the front of the swingarm to remove some metal so it swings nicely.

How much metal have you had to remove from the swingarm to make it fit?

Sorry for all the Q's but i'm gonna have to upgrade the pearl at some point and totally undecided whether to go rp2/3/23 or coil, hmmmm decisions decisions :D

Had mine in since feb, been spot on, shifting is obviously no better than some clean/lubed well set up normal cables, they should just hopefully be more reliable through the wet months (which is quite alot nowadays).
I can see the argument for not bothering with them tho as they are expensive.
Only time will tell if i bother with them on my other bikes.

Yep riding a fair bit at the moment, out with the missus and Gary tonight.

Not sure how fit/strong you are at the moment but we are off to Afan next month. I think Stela and Tony have the details of the other cottage if you guys fancy it.

Cool, say hello to the missus and gary for me.

Don't think i can make afan next month, spongey mentioned it to me other week. I'd love to go but got to take it proper steady for next 2 or 3 months…

    Hi Jackal

Are you going to flog the BFe frame ?

I think I have ridden with you before at Cwm Carn, I am one of Gary's mates from Portsmouth who knows Tony and Lynsey. I have got the Turbo Busa Westfield and I was talking to you about your car build.

Or you may be someone else

    Bazzer

    Hi baz…!

Yep you rode with us at cwn carn, hows tricks? Getting plenty of riding in?

Not sure if i'm selling the cotic or not yet, i'm building the prophet up to use whilst i get some strength back into my back, the hardtail is just a little too 'hard' at the moment  you after getting one then?

Gutted I missed whistler with the boys, i'm sure gary's shown you their helmet cam vids tho

Btw, took the locostR1 for its first proper legal drive the other week, your busa turbo must be immense 8O

    Maybe a DHX coil?

Hmmm, do they do a dhx short enough…? (200×50 iirc)

Is the rear axle a bolt through

Yep, 12mm bolt thru on the mx's, and additional downtube/headtube gusset.

    Thanks for that andy M.
And yes, if i was to buy secondhand i think i'd get it PUSHed by TFT..

How many people run coils (more specifically van R's) on them? How well do they pedal? And how bad is the weight penalty?

4 weeks seems like a long time guys…

Try 3 months off the bike totally and 6 months before riding full on again :( , then you'll realise 4 weeks isn't that long at all.

Just keep the fitness up on the turbotrainer.

I totally agree with him. I hate the Wall on a HT.

Well i quite enjoyed it on my HT, as i said a little tame if anything, but still enjoyable.
I enjoy riding anything full stop, be it sherwood pines or the alps, its all riding, just enjoy……..

I ended up with a RP3 from fleabay and its great.

Cool, i've been looking at a few on ebay recently, rp2's rp23's and rp3's, what exactly is the difference in them?

Warranty is for original owner, weren't these forks second hand?

Oh right, i'm clean out of ideas then

    hmmm, not good eh.
Either way the fork is broke, will they not honour the warranty then?

Does anyone else feel this way about stones and rocks on single track?!

    No.

There was loads at Afan on 'The Wall' route. I ride hardtail and know to absorb this type of thing with my arms and legs etc. but still, I just find it kills the 'flow' a bit if it lasts ages!

I did the wall on my Bfe, thought it was good, a little tame if anything

Post him a link to this thread.
