    Hmmmm….

Just this second received my 3/4 attacks, and…..
    They fit perfect!

Now, I normally take jeans in a 32" waist, but i've just measured with a tape measure and i'm ,erm, actually slightly larger than a 32" waist shall we say… Ok then, nearer 34" waist, but i'm not sure if i'm measuring in the correct place
No way would i fit in a small.

Anyway, very pleased that they fit but gutted i've discovered that i'm a fat bastard, pleasure and pain

Big thanks to Merlin anyway, only ordered them 3.00pm tuesday and they arrived 10am thurs morn, even with a postal strike..!

Bugger, so it looks like the mediums i ordered the other day for my 32" waist are going to be too big..?
I'd best get on the pies then…

    I choose a combo.

Jab, right hook, left cross, uppercut…
    That sort of thing?

I do like this descent which starts about here and that's pretty easy to include in most loops round there.

Yep agree, thats a nice fast descent.

    This route is quite good if you want to come closer towards ashover, a fair bit of road on it though. I normally descend between point 2 and 1 on the map, not climb it;

    linky

I've been doing a few different routes around the ashover area since i started mtb'ing in the nineties, its where i learnt to ride so i'm quite attatched to it
I ride from home (about 5 or 6 mile away) so quite convenient too. We normally stop for a pint at the 'old poets corner' (red lion) or 'black swan', both do decent real ales, not sure if they do food in the day though.

I wouldn't recommend one without trying it on first, they all fit different.

I have used a troy lee d2 and troy lee mx lid for the last 5 or so years (overpriced for what they are tho), perfect fit for me, tried a 'the' on last year and I didn't like the fit.

J.E.James are doing some mega deals on 661 helmets at the minute, around half price off them.
I tried the 661 flight warp on in their shop the other day, fit and quality (for 89.99) was good but its more of an mx style lid so heavy if your not used to them, they do cheaper/lighter ones tho.

I also like the look of the new giro and bell, and the fox ones seem pretty good for the money, not tried either of them on though.

Anyone use the altura attack 3/4 waterproofs…?
Will these fit over knee pads?
And would they be comfy enough to use all day, just over an inner short?

    Cheers.

Has anyone heard of any actual failures?

I'm very interseted in this too.
I've just asked that same question on my sdh post (link on previous post) about slx cranks cracking.
I'm guessing no one has had any fail yet.

    You can just make it out on these pics;

Looks like they're all going in the same place, in between the two 'grooves', what are these for? something to do with the steel pedal insert?

    I've just posted it up on sdh too, looks like it could be a common problem then;

Just checked my slx (double and bash) and the non drive side crank has got a crack in it approx 18mm long 8O

I'd been bigging slx up to everyone aswell saying how strong/light they were for the money, hmmm.
    I'll see if i can get a picture up in a min…

    Why not shin pads?

Anyway, a less shin damaging pedal will provide less grip, she'll slip more and probably be worse off than with the v8's.

Get some decent wide flat pedals (not v8/v12's or crank bro's 50 50's), and decent grippy soled shoes, if 5-10's or shimano am40's are too expensive, then get some cheap skate shoes with a sole that the pins will grip/push into.

But, it basically comes down to technique as to why the foot is slipping off all the time, she needs to learn the basics of controlling the bike with the feet. Practice practice practice

Sounds like you have a bolt-in kit not a bolt-through kit.
Give Hope a ring. They're very helpful.

nope he's got a q/r axle as I said above.

    jackal
    Free Member

Yep you've got a q/r axle by the sounds of it.
I've just swapped my pro2 rear from q/r to 12mm bolt thru, so just been in the garage to look at the old q/r axle that I took out and its exactly as you describe.
10mm internal dia. both ends then it steps down to approx 4-5mm internal dia. around 45mm in from each end.
Looks like you've been supplied the wrong kit, are the end caps you received with it for a 10mm bolt thru?

How much sugar are we saying then?
Most recipes i've seen say to use between 4-5 oz per half litre of gin.
I don't want it overly sweet so i've erred on the side of caution and made one bottle with 4oz of sugar and one with 2oz, that seem sensible?

Just put hope braided hoses on my tech x2's.
You have to be very careful when cutting the clear coating off (I use a scalpel) and putting the olives on, if you catch the braid and it starts to fray/splay open then you'll struggle like hell.
I had to open the olives out on a couple of them, only slighty by pushing it onto the taper of a screwdriver.
Mine are not spongey what so ever, hopes are pretty easy to bleed compared to other brands!
Do as it shows on the hope tech video, bleed as normal, refit cap, point lever down and pump a few times, place lever horizontal, remove cap, top up fluid then replace cap, job done.

Should be able to get it from any local engineering supplier.

Yep I've heard this too, because otherwise as soon as you park up and walk away from the car, it is uninsured and if it were to roll down a hill and hit someone, there is no insurance to claim on.

How about if you parked it on your drive then eh? As long as the car is on private property then it doesn't need insurance.
As i said above, the car needs to be insured by someone else AND you have permission to drive it, before your covered under your own 'fully comp' insurance to be able to drive the car covered for third party insurance only.

Seat tube length isn't that important really (within reason obviously) as long as you can get a seat post long enough (thomson 410mm would be ideal).
Its the top tube length thats more critical, if it feels too cramped with an 80mm stem (which i'd consider quite long anyway) then i'd say the frames too small for you, but remember the ride position on an mtb will be more upright than your road bike, are you sure your not trying to get too stretched out on it? how tall are you and what size is the bike?

If it is too short then fitting a longer stem/moving the saddle right back on a layback post may get you the length but its a bodge and will ruin the handling.
120mm stem…?! didn't think you could even buy them that long anymore, don't think i've ridden a bike with a stem that long since the mid nineties

It also of course depends on what you want the bike for, if its just a mess around in the woods type playing around bike then it may be big enough, but if your planning on riding any mileage on it then probably not.

Yes you can drive to and from the mot station for a pre-booked mot.
But, your only covered on your own insurance to drive another car third party if that car is insured by someone else and you have their permission to drive it, hence you wouldn't be insured…

Get some lights or a waterproof would be my suggestion.

As i've said above, all well and good if you can actually get out and ride.

    Worth it i'd say.
Used mine a fair bit in last couple of month whilst recovering from a spinal fracture and subsequent op. makes the transition back into riding proprerly again much easier.
I normally watch a mountain bike dvd whilst training, something with decent music to get you pumped up a bit…

Get a set of lights for the £100 and ride out on the roads.

Yeh, all well and good if you can actually get out on the bike, i couldn't, and if you read his post the op can't either until mid november.

    Gamut P30.
Very light and work brilliant, 36 tooth specific so you maximize ground clearance.
I wouldn't bother with an lg-1 type chain device, go for one with a full bash ring + rollers, as the the p30 has  , as well as mrp speed guides etc etc..

They're actually not that cheap for some stuff now aswell.
I use merlin and ukbikestore for mailorder stuff nowadays, last few bits ordered were cheaper than crc….
