wondered if the loop sometimes mentioned on here goes along the shore of Loch Loch

Did this many moons ago along the east side of Loch Loch, there was barely a path to half way along the Loch (where there is a cracking camping spot on a wee peninsula in the Loch). I would imagine the west side would be too steep. From then on there's nothing but sheep tracks and heather. Steep drop (carry) into Glen TIlt and ford the Tilt. (EDIT – wouldn't recommend it)

BTW – The Loch Loch access road was there way before the plane crash.

Nice for an afternoon if you're passing by. As said earlier quite short so you'll be doing a few circuits, but then agani that's probably no bad thing as its got a few wee suprises so is probably a bit more fun 2nd and 3rd time round.

If you get Linux running from the CD then step 1 would be to try and get your data off first. If you can access the disk then copy all your files and docs off somewhere safe in case your repair goes tits up.

Have one of these. Works ok, not got a good enough stereo to worry about sound quality. Plus there are **** all radio stations to interfere with it up here.

That drive, you have experience of the back-up performance of this ?

Yeah it seems ok. Got one for my mum's university work. It lets you schedule daily backups and allows you to manually back up a drive's contents. First time round it obviously takes a little while but from then on its a pretty quick process <2 minutes. Although it will be slower the more changes you make.

Its quite good for synching data between computers too.

Is that the windows XP system disc that I used to load XP

Yes. Stick it in the CD ROM and turn the PC on.

If you dont have it then stick linux on a USB stick and use that to get at your data linux on usb[/url]

Probably OK. The Avid clamps and syringes are standard Luer lock, so they've probably ordered all these up from a medical supplies company which is ok.

Connectors and tubing could be dodgy. You really dont want to be stripping the thread from on your callipers, and if they've bought the tubing from the medical supplies company will be OK with brake fluid.

I'm pretty sure someone posted a similar DIY bleed kit up here a few month ago.

Is the Kenny Wilson book still available?

Dont know to be honest. I just tried to find my copy, if you promise to mail it back to me (and I manage to find it) you can borrow mine if you want.

All good recommendations, the BG circuit is good, so long as you do it the right way round.

The KW book has a good few rides around where you will be. Loch Ordie is good too for an easier day out. Although the KW book doesn't take you on the "best" route round IMO. You can up the single track content by 75-80% if you take the right trails, if you want a slightly more challenging ride. Take a look if you want a map/way points let me know.

David Banns is great (and Im not a veggie). But I wouldn't try and go there during the festival, far, far too busy. Last time I walked past it was queued out of the door.

If you've not been before head up to the High Street/Royal Mile, it'll be busy but plenty of good bars and good atmosphere during the festival.

Ignorant not trolling- what is the big deal about it ?

Well in bike terms its kind of like XTR, with the exception that this kit really does make you go faster.

OK what I posted was why some walkers feel a level animosity towards MTBs on some mountain paths, and why we dont always get a friendly reception. It is NOT my opinion and I always try to be pleasant and greet walkers and MTBers alike with a smile and a wave. in fact and if you read the post i say that IMO with responsible use the majority of these paths will be fine.

As for damage to these paths. I've been riding and walking these paths for 20 years plus and in my opinion I cause more damage to these paths when I'm riding a fast decent fast than when I'm walking it. But then again maybe I've been doing it all wrong.

As for Ben Lomond not been up there for a long while, the path looked pretty solid but already people(walkers) had wandered off of the made path in the steeper sections. Would I ride it? Yes (but only if i could stay on the path all the way which is unlikely). Would I claim that I caused less damage than an individual walker ? No. Would I feel guilty ? Dont think so. But if I did I would try and absolve myself with a donation to the NTS or think about volunteering for a days path building.

    lol @ the walking poles.

oh dear – thought as much.

lot have been built by volunteers (mostly walkers)
    I'm a walker too.

    errr….so am I ?

Many of these have significantly mitigated against erosion
    Caused nearly 100% by walkers.

Correct. But the paths are doing their job i.e. reducing erosion
(edit: I would say 99.9% by walkers – definitely some blame down to MTB)

ripping down these footpaths down hill style will significantly shorten their lifespan
Rarely have I read such nonsense.

So are you saying that this wont shorten the life of the paths ?

A the risk of getting shot down in flames there's been a lot of footpaths built in scottish mountain areas to protect the environment. Many of these have significantly mitigated against erosion (Schiehallion being a good example – the old path left huge scars on the hill ).

These are ridiculously expensive to build, a lot have been built by volunteers (mostly walkers) but more importantly have been designed for walkers and not mountain bikers. With responsible riding they could probably carry bikes fine, but ripping down these footpaths down hill style will significantly shorten their lifespan.

Theres no excuses rudeness from either walkers or MTBers, but I know a lot of the ill feeling in some of the walkers stems from this.

Have you got a stereo in the house with a radio tuner ?
Then have you though about an itrip. Will let you use your ipod anywhere you've got a radio (home, car, hotel, work, some one elses car etc).

Sorry but I would be pretty pi55ed if I had to return something And had proof of delivery but the shop/vendor/seller wasn't refunding me.

Whether it's duncan's, royal mail's or even you own fault it certainly isn't the fault of the guy that returned it.

Ah school boy error there crocodilian. You mentioned the "W" word that automatically inflates any quotation by a factor of 10…
…"you want a cake? No problem £50, Oh its a wedding cake! THat will be £500"
    …"You want a limo ? No problem £100, Oh its for a wedding !! THat'll be £1000 please"
    etc etc
