Never ever ever ever ever sit down when watching at a rally, it takes that extra second or two you might not have to throw yourself out of the way. Cars can go off anywhere, I’ve seen cars go off on straight bits of road.

I got a set a few years ago, prior to the first of the two snowy winters the uk got. I thought they might make a slight difference but probably that much, but I had a spare set of steel wheels and was curious.

Still can’t believe the difference, incredible. I drive a 1.2 Fiat Panda and a few days after the snow hit I got all packed and set up and went out in the middle of the night before the snowploughs had had a chance to clear it, with the aim of seeing just what they were capable of (without driving off the road, of course). Apart from chickening out of driving through a three foot drift, I drove about 150 miles through the wilds of Co Durham, up steep steep hills around Hamsterley, three inches of snow on the A68, nothing stopped me (and I had a lot of fun!)

I’ll have winter tyres on in winter on every car I own until the day I die. Incredible. And as you swap them over it’s not actually ended up costing me anything extra.

(Although as that car was written off with them on (non weather related accident) I’ll have to buy a new set, but still)

    Go for it.

Soooooo… being a long term singleton, decided to join POF the other day after work colleagues doing a lot of persuasion. We’ll see what happens but I don’t have any expectations, apart from already being pretty convinced I’m going to die a lonely old man… I’m no good at the dating ‘game’.

yeah ive been considering ledlenser as they seem pretty good

i want over 100 lumens, something closer to 200

I’d never heard of Led Lenser before last year when my friend used one on Safari, thought it was amazing (P17) so bought myself one when I got back, use it when out watching rallies in the dark and other people keep commenting how amazing it is!

No hesitation in ordering one of their head torches when I decided I needed one. You won’t regret it at all, I guarantee it.

I recently got one of these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lenser-Rechargeable-Head-Lamp-Black/dp/B001PMP340/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412282190&sr=8-1&keywords=Led+lenser+head

Rechargeable via USB, powerful and I’d definitely recommend!

I only got contacts (dailies) when I started cycling again last year, really like them but as I don’t wear them all the time and only ride semi-regularly, I find it a bit of hassle getting them in, sometimes they go straight in, others I use about 4 of them and end up getting frustrated and shouting at the damn things doesn’t seem to help them. Would probably be better off wearing them daily but am not a morning person and am usually running to work at the last minute.

Still, I will persevere with them as they are really good for cycling, tennis, rallying, really anything where glasses could get in the way or be damaged easily.

    Go for it.

I got my mtb through CycleScheme (I think). I was more than a little disappointed to get the letter from them at the end of the 12 months and I got the three options of:

    1) Pay for the bike to own it outright (can’t remember how much this was exactly but not worthwhile)
    2) Pay a refundable deposit of £70 to extend the hire agreement for another 36 months
    3) Give them the bike back (at my cost)

So, I reluctantly had to give them an extra £70 (which I wasn’t happy about). Their T&Cs do state that it must continue to be insured, though if it gets lost or stolen within the next 36 months and isn’t insured, I would lose my deposit.

So if it turns out that it does get lost/stolen within the next 3 years just after my insurance expires, it would be a terrible shame.

I’d never get a cycle to work bike again, simply not worth the hassle in my opinion.

Read a while back that they use the info from road signs to help with their navigation, ie one way streets, etc. amazing stuff.

Great for planning bike rides and drives through the highlands and random tropical islands….

I only use an electric shaver these days, every time I ever tried a wet shave in my life I always sliced my face open, so I gave up.

These days with quick and easy access to pay day loans, it shouldn’t really matter if pay day is a few days away, they should take the hit on the (relatively) small charges in order to get the cash to you.

Hope it all works out but fear the worst :(

Thanks, had tried all of that, was the correct side and turned it the right way! Seemed to ‘drag’ when starting to tighten and I just didn’t want to force it, then I was getting more and more annoyed, never mind.

After seeing the quite frankly shocking way some garages put wheel nuts on, every time I come out Ill take them off and retorque them to put my mind at rest.

I bought a T-Rex to use with a Zee FR mech, appeared to be terrible to set up and in the end I’ve given up and took it to a local bike shop. If it’s not any good Ill just have to get a replacement hanger if it’s going to make the difference.

Tried again this morning but it wasn’t having it. Took it into a shop in town, unfortunately they’re closed tomorrow so it’ll be Monday at least until I can collect it again. Wish I’d done that to start with!!

So unscrewed the BB and moved 2x spacers to the other side, or at least I tried to but can’t get the right thread and am scared of trashing it, so will have to man up and see if there is a bike shop near me that can sort it all out pronto in the morning. So very annoyed right now.

I sized it by putting it around the largest sprocket, but put it through the RD as well (pulling it tight). Will have another look without and adding two. I don’t think there were any spacers on my crank arms when I had them off, but to be honest don’t think I checked for that, will get them off again and have a look. Thanks for the tips! I really wish I knew what I am doing!!

No matter what the car to the right’s approach speed is or what they are doing, you must give way to them. I did the same in February and the guy must have been doing about 50 in a 30 limit, he went into the side of my car as I floored it to try to get out the way realising he was going to hit me if I stopped.

Insurance said that even if he was stopped and waiting, I have to stop and give way to him.

Case closed. Really annoys me now the number of people who do actually pull out and are in the wrong…

Pikes Peak has been fully tarmac a couple of years now, though reading a report about a biker dying in a recent race it turns to gravel on the finish line (where he crashed). I think Mr Loeb’s record up there will probably stand for quite some time, incredible effort!

Higgins having the big moment was because all the testing etc was just him in the car, then the passenger got in which made him bottom out – this was why he did it alone this time!! Don’t think the passenger had a clue just how incredibly close they came to a huge accident they were, maybe a blessing for him…

I see so much stupid driving these days it’s unreal. I try to take particular care to observe whilst I’m driving and have a high degree of anticipation, which of course makes me a fantastic driver and I never do anything wrong.

So much so, I’ve just ordered a RoadHawk. Can one take a video into the police to try to get them to have a word?

tbh It’s a mugs game hiring a car and not getting all the insurances offered – yes, they often mean a serious price hike, but the alternative is a large charge to your credit card.

Yeah this is my thoughts exactly, I’d rather pay £75 or £100 or whatever than possibly thousands.

Only ever had two issues when hiring, first was in Sardinia when I pulled over to park behind a car and somehow forgot there was another half of the car to my right – small scrape which polished out mainly, but the car was covered in scratches anyway so it wasn’t noticed. Started taking out the excess after that.

Second was in Sanremo, had a Modus and sat nav tried to take me on a shortcut through a village – unfortunately the shortcut wasn’t as wide as the car… No way I could reverse out and round the previous corner but a couple of locals helped me out thankfully or I’d probably still be stuck there, but scraped the bumper on a wall. £0 excess though so not really an issue!
