Well I wasn’t expecting abuse but seems to be the way of politics on social media.

Not letting me edit my post so I can clarify it was “only” 60%. Please accept my humble apologies for not fully agreeing with you all. But 80/60, still the same outcome.

    https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/50140-public-support-retaining-the-two-child-benefit-limit-as-starmer-gears-up-for-first-rebellion

I shan’t read any further comments as I don’t put up with being mocked, so enjoy the rest of your time here.

Wow, clearly a lot of people in here who don’t quite understand politics.

80% of the public are against lifting the cap.

Anyone who defies a three line whip to vote against their own government must be suspended, 100% the correct decision. The Tories didn’t do this and they all lost all authority. It’s basic politics. Sure there is lots of ranting on social media, but most aren’t taking everything into account.

Politics isn’t getting everything you want all the time, Starmer clearly isn’t a fan of it but the chance to do it has gone for now. Contrary to what people seem to believe for some reason, it doesn’t mean they won’t ever do it. I give it less than a year.

Then everyone can start moaning about other stuff.

He has to go now to try and maybe save America.

Massive failure by the democrats to have any plan just in case, its such an obvious thing.

Agree there should be a maximum age limit, say of 72.

    Random thought I had earlier:

Can opposition parties form a coalition to give themselves more chance of being the official opposition?

Mine has gone down £7 a month, for 1000 fewer miles and adding on breakdown cover which saves me £100 a year with AA.

Quite happy with that. Early 40s, Twingo RS but in Leeds which is most of what adds to the cost…

Can’t believe the amount of absolute guff I just read through here. Oh. my. dear. god.

No wonder garages selling tyres make so much money on gullible people, they’re the same ones telling people their brake pads and discs need changing every year.

Too tip for forumites – you can scroll past anything you don’t want to read.

Does that include reading it to decide if you want to read it or not?

Wow I thought I’d have a quick read in case I’d missed anything, but seems the usual shouting matches found on social media.

It’s a great effort from the Tory voting types to try to shout louder with the hope of just boring and putting everyone off, which is probably quite successful. “They’re all the same” is all I seem to read. Shame on the public for being brainwashed.

Hope the tactical voting plans destroy everything to do with them and they are never ever in a position to return.

Interesting news from France. Seems Europe is in for a tough time.

Hope mental politics can soon calm down and become boring again.

Wish I could do more but am a typical Brit and know next to nothing, and it isn’t helped by not really being taught English properly (what is a past participle?).

I went out with a Norwegian girl many years ago and did start an evening class at Edinburgh uni, that all petered out and I only remember a few sentences. Also know a few sentences in Italian which I’d like to learn a lot more – if I was allowed to work from home full time I’d love to go and do that from Italy for a few years. As it is being forced into the office two days a week makes it impossible 😣

    Everything is expensive these days:

Cycling, concerts, football tournaments, other football matches, most sporting events, holidays, cars, houses, food, even a night out can easily be £100 – how I long for the days when I was at uni and there was price war on vodka & coke which got down to 19p….. (actually no, can’t touch the stuff since then lol). But I don’t go on about it, just the usual that poor people, as usual, get left behind and miss out on almost everything really good in life. And arrogant people.

Wonder what the effects would be if they were all to be exterminated across the whole country. Probably a big effect on the food chain above etc.

    Worth a try I reckon.

This whole thread is basically old men shouting at clouds, you do realise that?

Meanwhile there are a lot of young people who are going to have the time of their lives (at least up till now anyway!), have been talking and thinking about it for months and will be talking and thinking about it for months afterwards, no matter how many grumpy old people tell them they won’t!

    This exactly. Exactly

I’ve seen a few decent concerts in my time but nothing recently, particularly with the higher prices. I choose (or actually it’s my bank account) not to go, fair enough, but I bet they are great gigs to be there and see it live. There are a few on YouTube with mostly acceptable quality and it looks great. You just can’t get to that level without having talent and the ability to put on such a show.

And I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned it yet, but she is fit.

Just a FYI about the gas, you need the meter to be removed by your supplier which stops the standing charge. You can then pay to get the service disconnected at the main in the street, or that would be done automatically after 9-12 months from the meter being removed.

Gas Safe engineer does the pipe work from the meter to the cooker.

Wow. I’m sure his family are grateful for your generosity in teaching them a valuable lesson.

Oh dear, not sure how I’ll manage to get to sleep tonight…

I couldn’t care less about his family tbh, I didn’t like the guy and even if I did, a measly donation from me wouldn’t have made a dent into £25k.

Msybe someone on here has learned a lesson though.

It’s fairly simple, check you are covered for the activities you’re planning to do. Every policy I’ve ever had was fairly simple to understand what was and wasn’t covered, and you have the choice before paying for it.

Imola is known to be difficult to build up charge due to the lack of proper hard braking into slow corners.

Having been curious for a while, I decided to watch the full race from Norris’ car as I thought it might be interesting.

It was ok and I kept with it to the end, but was quite strange with next to no information and pretty much no idea what was happening until quickly catching Max up to what turned out to be 2 laps from the end when a radio message confirmed it.

Would much prefer to have at least a lap indicator and maybe gap behind/ahead, plus the overall positions to get an idea of what’s happening elsewhere. But otherwise ok and the race flew by.

Piastri got in the way and disrupted Magnusson’s lap as the evidence the stewards found confirmed, the team just didn’t give him enough notice. It’s a slam dunk sadly. If its practice you can get away with it but not a competitive session.

Looking forward to the race. Much prefer these older proper circuits to the newer ones, might look at going to Imola or Monza next year.

Should be a good race tomorrow – sounds like Max only got pole because he got a massive tow off Hulk.

Not really as he lost time on the final corner which probably evened it out.

Of course they are. There’s very few other defendants for whom the threat of  slinging them in jail might cause rioting, violence and injury, perhaps even death(s).  Judge’s  got to take that into account. As much as it’d be amusing to watch, his supporters would likely pile onto the streets all over the US.

That has zero bearing on whether someone should be jailed or not. He’s so far past the line and has been for months. Stick him in for as long as the judge wants, it is past time.

You can’t decide someone’s punishment for a crime depending if there’ll be some upset people,  it just doesn’t work that way

Anyone having a little riot as a result will be held to account – unlike Trump.

Last time I went through Dubai on way to Nairobi, the walk was about 50m to the next gate and took about a minute.

I’d say you’ll be perfectly fine, same as transiting everywhere really (except USA).

To be fair Matty hasn’t smelt any gas. He’s not really in a position to call the number that you phone if you smell gas.

Presumably if he phoned it they would ask him if he can smell gas, there’s no point lying as they would soon find out that it wasn’t true.

I don’t think that “No, but I am worried because I suffer from OCD and keep checking my gas meter” is likely to be treated with the same level of urgency.

It’s the gas emergency phone line, not the “I can definitely smell gas” phone line.

There are enough stupid people out there to make it easier to say to call if you can smell gas. Plenty of people can’t and plenty of people can but don’t care… 🤦🏻‍♂️

TBF to the OP (because everyone and their dog seems to be piling on now), he has said that he’ll have it looked at when he gets back and the supply will be turned off (before the leaking side) in the meantime.

But it could be the ECV that isn’t actually turning the gas off, hence nobody has any idea if it is working to stop the gas or not. It needs checked by a qualified engineer.

Oh and technically speaking, it’s a gas service up to the meter. Gas Mains are in the streets, that then feed the Services.

Call the gas emergency line, this is what they are there for. It is free unless you’ve done so etching stupid. They will tell you where the issue (if there is an issue).

You’d have to be bonkers to not call them FFS.

F1 living up to its reputation of being boring and predictable with Max running off into the distance.

It’s massively regulated, so they won’t tell you the leak is on your side of the meter if it’s not. Because if you were to report that to, say the HSE, that would be a massive issue.

I think a Gas Safe was jailed(?) fairly recent for doing a half arsed job and then there was an explosion. These incidents are investigated in incredible detail.

They are also regulated on timescales of emergency engineers arriving on site. 1-2 hours is usually the max (depending if smell of gas disappears when isolated at ECV).

I work for one of the main gas networks.

Call 0800 111999 and they will get someone out to investigate/repair if they can, within 2 hours. This is partly what your standing charge pays for – use it when needed.

Even though you’re turning the ECV off, it may be corroded internally allowing some gas to pass. Network should replace it if that is the case, also ask them about the earthing as you might get lucky?

The meter itself belongs to your supplier and if that is the issue your supplier would need to repair/swap it.

Transco was replaced many years ago, there is no “gas board” either. Different companies own networks in different parts of the country, some independently owned networks can be only the size for a few houses, but usually larger new build estates.

why would someone be bored of watching their favourite driver winning? Or food ball team? Or cyclist? Or etc?

of course thanks to a critical iPhone typo, that was meant to say ‘not winning’.

Can’t keep burying the waste. It’s too dangerous a substance to be ‘out of sight, out of mind’ and takes so long to decay it’s likely there wont be a human race to say thats it ok now.

I tend to agree. I remember watching a program on Horizon (or similar) many years ago which was explaining the plans for designing a nuclear waste storage site and how to stop future access in 100,000 years when you might not have any currently known languages and they might not know the hazard symbols etc we currently use.

Any antidote to the Verstappen show is welcome, but Newey showing his genius would top it all

You mean we’d be rid of this awful, prolonged really boring domination by Verstappen, and instead get….. an awful, prolonged really boring domination by Hamilton… again.

Seems interesting that a lot of people only seem to not be bored when their preferred driver is winning constantly.
