You know me Mike, it was never going to stay standard!
Most of the gear from the hardtail wouldn’t have been suitable for the F/S and all the fun is in making a bike you own.

Can’t wait to next week, feels like Christmas all over again!

I ordered from Merlin on Wednesday and Parcelforce attempted to deliver the wheels today. I wasn’t in so will get them on Monday but the bike will be delivered by the end of Tuesday so getting really exited now.

    Your imagine isn’t working!

You could try it out on the bike by moving your hands inboard an inch before commiting to cutting the bars down.

    Cheers Andy,

I knew about the hub being easily converted but thought it might be worth getting the right axel to begin with if it was non QR.

Thanks weirdnumber, that puts my mind at rest!

Just need to decide on hub colour! Leaning towards the silver for a bit of bling with the rest of the bike being black and white, shame Hope don’t do white componenets.

Flotec in Edinburgh are good and reasonable, I used them last year to do my RS Sids and they came back better than they’d ever been.

You can drop off and pick up if that suits and I had mine back within a couple of days.

Does it come with pedals? Anything you would upgrade in the near future, bars seatpost etc?

They can provide it at cost to them and customer service makes a difference.

I had a problem with CRC when I ordered a carbon hardtail frame and they sent me the wrong size and got messed about with what stock they had. Ended up dealing with a manager and he gave me a Ritchey Carbon Superlogic seatpost for £70 RRP was £230.

Might be worth pointing out in the advert what you’ve just posted about what parts are over and above the standard spec for the 905!
Execting buyers to know or check what the standard spec is compared to yours is a bit of an assumption.

If you do cancel what would you do then?
If you have another bike or supplier of the same bike in mind they might have similar supply issues or delivery dates.

I’d be contacting them again and get clarification on the reason behind the latest delay and seek something else free chucked in as the upgrade to the higher spec was for the original non supply problem!

    Don’t ask don’t get!

I went through the same thing recently and ended up splitting the bike.

As you my frame was on the large size so a limited market but you need to really work on your advert. Good quality pictures and plenty of them, clear spec and a few details on use and service history.
Your price is maybe on the high side but I usually price parts with the expectation to be knocked down a bit.
There are loads of deals on new bikes at the moment with the German sites offering excellent VFM and the likes of Paul’s Cycles selling off previous year’s models vastly reduced.

You might need to work out the least you would accept for the bike and adjust your price accordingly rather than what you think it’s worth or split as it will be worth more as parts and easier to sell.

I’ve got Wellgo MG1 pedals matched to 5-10 Impact Lows, they are almost to the point of being too sticky. Makes it awkward to alter the position of your foot on the pedal.

I’m thinking of trying Teva Links shoes, look nicer off the bike and not quite as sticky a sole.

The size calculator kept saying I would need a large, but at 6’4″ and 35″ inside leg I questioned it.
Give Cullen at Canyon a call or e-mail and he’ll be able to keep you right. He recommended anyone over 6’2″ go for XL but sizing may be different on a 29er.

Think they are being released in July but may be wrong.

On the Canyon you need to factor in the price of the bike box and postage, should come in under £50 but keep an eye on the exchange rate and if it keeps improving then the price of the bike and p&p will come down.

I’ve got a Nerve XC8.0 on order and it came in at £1619 for the bike + a spare mech hanger + the bike box and delivery ended up being £1679.
2 and half weeks to dipatch (WC 25) can’t wait.

All the best for tomorrow Mike and enjoy your honeymoon.

Will hear all about it the next time we go biking!!!

I was in the same position last month.

I demo’d the Trek EX9 and thought it was great but too expensive for my budget.

I’ve just ordered a Canyon Nerve XC8.0, came in at £1679 posted with a spare mech hanger. Unbelievable spec for the money.

Check it out even just to compare to what else is out there in the same price range.

I’ve just ordered a Nerve XC8.0 today (bargain of the century).

I checked their online size calculator thing and it kept saying I needed a large but I wasn’t convinced as I’m 6’4″ with a 35″ inside leg.

I know my sizing doesn’t really help you but my advice is to e-mail or call Cullen at Canyon UK and ask his advise.
He replied to my questions within about 30mins and put my mind at rest (they recommend anyone over 6’2″ to get an XL).

I know that it takes a week to arrive.
The model I’m after says available wk 25, this being the end of wk 19.

I just don’t know if they’ll take the money when ordering or a week before dispatch.

In my case – the day after I placed the order.

How close to the delivery date was that?

I have heard that it’s about a week before it gets sent out. I guess everyone will be different depending on availablity dates from canyon.

    Cheers guys,

I can’t wait much longer for the price to come down as I’ve got a biking trip planned for the end of July.

When do they take the money from your card/account?

Going to be ordering a Nerve XC8.0 in the next week or so.

There is a 6 week delay from ordering, when do you pay for the bike and is it at the exchange rate when you order it or at the rate when you pay for the bike?

Only selling as I’ve split the bike they were fitted to and am buying a new complete bike.

Let me know if you’re interested.

I’ve got a 21″ BeOne carbon H/T XC race frame in the classifieds at the moment,

I’ve got the new XT on my xc hardtail and running 28/40 on the front and a 11/34 cassette.

Suits me perfectly and only once felt like I needed a 36 at the back, was feeling really tired that day for no obvious reason.

Based up near Edinburgh so Bury is quite a way away.

Just thinking about ball park figures as the missus has given permission for a bike change without it costing much extra!

    Sounds interesting,

If you e-mail me your shop’s website details I’ll have a look at the bikes you sell including prices and geometry details.

let me know any deals and what sort of trade in price for mine you were thinking.

    Cheers,

goatster what brands of bike do you sell?

Been looking at the Canyon Nerve XC8.0 for reference, so 120mm F/S and needs to be suitable for a 6’4″ rider, decent spec and a good deal price wise!

I knew when I built it up that if i wanted to sell it in the future I’d lose a big chunk of cash but if we worried about that we’d never buy new stuff. Half the fun is buying and building up something different. I’ve never seen another one at any of the trail centers I’ve been to and always get great compliments about the bike from other riders.

I think I’ll re-advertise it with more of a focus on splitting but the frame going before the rest.

All the kit is good quality stuff and in as new condition so should sell if priced right but we’ll see how it goes.

Many thanks to all the advice I’ve received in this thread, I’ll take it on board and be realistic with my sale plans.

    Thanks Shorty121,

At least that lets me know that there are buyers out there who would consider something like my bike.

Just need to persevere and wait for a buyer to notice the for sale ad. I’ll only split it the frame goes 1st. Really don’t want to go down the e-bay route as it’s not a main stream brand and won’t give it away for peanuts.

Going to Dalbeattie and surrounding trails in July so hopefully will have a more suitable steed by then.

If I was you I would advertise over at XCRacer.com for it. Probably more their sort of steed.

I have registered but to post in the for sale section you have to have competed in races which can be checked and adverts without this info get removed.

Guess it’s due to it being a free service and to stop e-bay style users abusing the site.

I’ve never raced so looks like I can’t try to sell my bike on their site.

Wasn’t exactly sure on the starting point size wise but I’m 6’4″ and would fit someone slightly taller.

What height would it be suitable from 5’11” or 6′?

    j40aja
    Free Member

Once I’ve sold (eventually) my H/T I will be ordering one but looking at their sizing suggets you’d have to be absolutly massive to need an XL.
Just wondering what height and inside leg/arm length the size large ranges to.

My gut says XL, smaller frames do look better but don’t want to have to put a very long stem when ordering the I can get the right size frame now.

    j40aja

After trying loads of bikes and finding quite often being between sizes. I realised that changing stems and seat posts can get just the right fit.

Can’t blame a guy for trying to sell his bike 😆

My frame is a 21″ so think you would be right on the lower limit size wise.

Would be looking in the region of £400 including Hope bottom bracket and headset both 6 months old.

Check out my for sale ad for pictures of the complete bike.

What size frame are you after?

I have a carbon hardtail full bike for sale at the moment, wasn’t going to split it but would if the frame went 1st!

My bike if you can stretch you budget and it fits obviously!!!

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/21-custom-carbon-hardtail

I looked at a Whippet before buying mine but was put of by the limitations of the front mech, nice looking frame though my mate had a 456carbon at the time.

2nd hand but nearly new/well loved bikes will always offer better value than new.

    Cheers,

    Alan.

I changed from Hope Race X2s to the 2012 M785 XTs and it’s one of the best things I’ve changed on my bike.
Wasn’t sure on the looks of the XTs initially but they’ve grown on me and the feel and power are fantastic.
The Hopes were beautiful and the engineering is 2nd to none but they left me with little confidence that I’d stop in time and the amount of force I’d have to apply through the lever was excessive.
The Hopes are great for personalising as I did with red levers, floating rotors, bore caps and matchmakers but stopping and confidence is what brakes is all about.

XTs from Rose Bikes for about £130 compared to about £350 for the Hopes!

I’ve got a nearly new (50 miles max) XT M771 triple conventional front mech in the garage if it’ll suit your frame.
It is a 10 speed but I ran it with no problems on a 9 speed set up.

Let me know if you’re interested,

    Cheers.
